The General

Eddie Vedder is the sensitive voice of my generation and his words are the muse that allow me to arise in the morning and fulfill my social justice warrior duties.

In an alternate universe.

I can think of no worse way to die than the buried alive scenario.

Sure, the burned alive thing is no picnic.   Not to mention the airplane breaking apart over the Atlantic in the middle of the night as you fall strapped in the row of seats with all the screaming unfortunate cunts sitting beside you.  It's like "fucking shut up already you're hurting my left ear!" "What movie was that?" "I don't usually like Nick Cage films but that seemed like it was really going somewhere". <<<You would have to really YELL that stuff out so they could hear you though.

Eaten alive? Nasty shit, happens all the time in the animal world.

Eddie Vedder was an insufferable prick, but I'd take Pearl Jam over Great White any day. Rock and metal was so awful at the end of the 80s they deserved to die.

That tidal wave of bands like Poison,Warrant,Firehouse,Slaughter...just atrocious. And they're all still around at these shitty festivals like Rocklahomos.

Yeah, definitely not good.  Having a grizzly take you out does not sound too appealing.

Soviets used to burn Western spies from the feet up so they would feel every moment of searing pain.

These days you only hear, like on C2C, about the holistic, one-with-nature, peaceful crap but the reality was many of the Indian tribes, especially one in the plains, were very creative with their torture. For males of warrior age captured after battle or raid (babies usually just head bashed in, woman raped and killed, old folks killed, young women raped and/or used as slaves, young boys could join tribe if they were fit (even if non-Indian or if not of their tribe): burning to death starting at heads and feet- or by putting burning single coals one at a time on your chest, flaying alive, scalping alive, made to eat your own flesh, breaking bone by bone, etc. Often allowing recovery time and food/water so that the torture could last as long as possible. Interestingly, warriors were respected if they showed resistance singing war-songs, boasts of conquests, etc as they died.) Pretty much people all over the world, at least in history, did some crazy horrible things. I wonder where "humane" got its definition.

What finally killed hair metal? Was it something that could only germinate in the 80s?

Yorkshire pud

On the theme of cruel and unnecessary torture, tonight we have the Eurovision Song Contest...and Australia have a wild card entry!! Yep, but even if they win, it won't be held in Australia as is usual to the winning song.

Jazmunda? Any thoughts on this?

I had an unhappy experience at a bus stop in Seattle earlier today. It was on 45th St. It was a temporary stop--the proper one is having work done on it.  Its a busy stop and two different buses use it. I was waiting for the 16. When the 44 came, I shook my head.  That's usually what people do in these situations--it saves the driver stopping needlessly. Then another woman ran up and tried to catch it unsuccessfully.  I swear I hadn't seen her, and when I did I could have sworn she had just gotten off that very bus. So I said, "I'm sorry, I didn't know you wanted that bus.  I thought you'd just gotten off of it." She said, "Stupid, you should make those decisons for yourself." There was another one in 15 minutes but I felt terrible.  I swear that I didn't know she was there at the time I shook my head.

I don't like being called stupid, even when I am. Does anybody think people are in worse moods around major holidays or on these these long holiday weekends? I think they are.  I will never forget one time just before Christmas when a guy really went off on me on a Seattle street. I had been staring at him, only because he looked like he was going to get into a fistfight with another guy.  I know staring at people is provocation, but as I said, he acted like he was about to get into a fight. So he walked along with me for at least a block, calling me names, insulting and haranguing me even though I was trying to ignore him.  Other people were giving us dirty looks(mostly giving him dirty looks, actually).

Always make sure your bullshit detector is one when you hear something--anything--about Indians on Coast to Coast.  A lot of these people are the fake "pretendians" that don't know what they're talking about and believe a mishmash of supposed native teachings from all kinds of sources. George seems oblivious to the phoniness of these people .That's why I was so grateful to find NAFPS(New Age frauds and Plastic Shamans).

And, yes, I actually believe that the default for many primitive peoples was barbarism and brutality. Its just a fact. That was one thing I liked about the movie "Dances With Wolves."  At least they didn't gloss over the tribe-on-tribe brutality.  It was going on long before the white man.

the kids second favorite fish song of which I've introduced them and other folks. By the 'Grease' who, after Art is my favorite radio host of all time (though close race between old Phil Hendrie when he was good and doing characters and call in, Grease even emailed me personally years later and encourages private collections, sharing, and recording of his stuff.):

you CANNOT help laughing or making a kid of any age laugh if you play, and sing this song, incessantly.

I was once at a inter-tribal gathering where I introduced a Ho Chunk elder to a Menomonee friend. The former shook hands with the latter and said, "We used to eat you guys."  Keeping it real.

A lobotomy would lead to pursuing the White Lion and Extreme catalogs, though. Owning a White Lion cd will save a condemned killer from the electric chair. It's evidence of a sub-70 IQ.

Hair metal, for all of it's MTV ubiquity, didn't have many blockbuster albums. It was ephemeral, bands like Winger or Kix seeing diminishing returns with each release. In early '91, Atlantic quietly dropped most of their hair bands, so change was in the air a good 6-8 months before Nevermind and Ten began their ascent.

Idk but I would think MTV going away from videos also helped the demise of hair metal. Both for people learning about bands and watching cause it was on and chicks.

Check out the doc Metal: A Headbanger's Journey.
Makes the case Def Leppard and Whitesnake were sheerly pop metal acts.
Far different than the aforementioned Poison and Motley Crüe.
