What did you do with it, was it playing dead?

I don't think it was playing dead. I came back a few hours later and it was still there in the same position, so I buried it.

Living the dream can appear as a nightmare.

I was informed that "FTW" apparently means "For The Win".

Proving how much this younger generation sucks. FTW meant "Fuck The World" when I was a kid.

Including all-u-can-eat breadsticks with the sandwiches is killer idea! Quantity is clearly the way to go. Having said that I was surprised, sort of saddened, to see driving back from the airport that my local Golden Corral with a overflow full parking lot at 9pm still on Mother's Day. Nothing like taking Ma to the all-u-can-eat buffet to celebrate!

A friend of mine used to say, "if you're really hungry, but don't have time for food: Golden Corral!"

Ah, yes.  When you don't care what you're eating, just as long as there's a lot of it.  The Lead Trough.

Worst restaurant meal I've ever had.  If I'd wanted dog food Chef-Boy-R-Dee, I would have bought a can of it for 89c

The only three I know of in my area are part of  shopping centers. I don't know how anybody could go to that place if you have an actual authentic Italian restaurant within 5/50/500, uh...5000 miles.

Or any restaurant

Let's just say it wasn't my choice.  I'm convinced most people don't have taste buds...

The fascination seems to be the all-you-can-eat aspect, once again, at least for the soup, salad, and deathsticks.

I've found that others choosing where to eat is Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun with hollow point bullets.

There is a time/place for all-u-can-eat. Highschool, college, lumberjacks, roadcrews (when laying actual highways through forests and mountains not just flagging and driving heavy equipment), laborer, etc. Unfortunately, there is quick diminishing returns for most people, even IF the quality is good. So maybe the resturant makes that money. But if, not we still get many health costs for our country for those who don't realize that fact and continue to eat like they are still a 19yr old hockey player when they are 40+ at a deskjob (or more recently no job and watching tv.)

Having said that: America, What a country! (Where we have problems with people eating too much, or, as Carlin (an Art guest) ridiculed a problem with people who "won't eat or throw it up")

It's worse than that.  People want to eat family style at cafe's that are acceptable to me.  "Should I order for everyone?" I'll suggest in vain, in an attempt to prevail over madness.

We end up with a half dozen of the worst items on the menu, and everyone wants to eat the one thing I was able to order

That's a nightmare. My ex-wife's family would behave in that manner, trying to expand beyond their lower middle class roots and end up spending exorbitant amounts of money on food they could not even pretend to enjoy. Especially at seafood restaurants. They look at me like a vagrant for merely sticking to haddock or fried clams.

Maybe? I've heard tobacco, in all its forms dulls, them. Also taste is very related to smell and in cities, pollution, etc? I've also heard theories that more 'extremes' also does same (lots of peppers, hot sauce, vinegar, salt?) I don't know. It does seem tolerance for spice can get to be a bad thing and so ones starts throwing etc on everything? Then, again, I like it on stuff so?

ps: the popular trend to make all-in-one is also interesting. Many, if not all, cultures have stuff like tortillas, leftse, flatbread, naan, matza, etc. Normally these things were, basically, peasant items. (Or, especially in more recent times, more traditional/holiday fare to remind oneself of old days.) But modern society has figured a way to make them, in more modern ways, used to carry more items. Convenient! No table settings or even fork work needed! Stuff everything into a 'wrap' of some sort and you don't even need a table! Buy it and drive and eat your stuff. Some places, KFC, even now eliminates the 'bread' and throws a "meal" into a throw-away "bowl" for one to scarf down. Amazing.
