"Philthy" Animal was hilarious. I'm gonna miss that guy. I met them in 1988. Him and Wurzel were funny as hell. Lemmy was actually pretty quiet and Phil Campbell was a dick.

    You pretty much nailed it. Philthy was the outgoing personality, their Keith Moon. There's an old VHS of them from 81-82, and he's the wit during off stage interviews. Played like a maniac, despite quite a few injuries from neck to knees.

    Motorhead more hard rock than metal, like the MC5 on meth. Not quite metal, not quite punk but fans of both genres could get into them. The speed factor, especially with Taylor's double bass attack on "Overkill" did help make a blueprint for the thrash that emerged in the early 80's.

Regarding Motörhead: If I consume enough alcohol, I invariably will, at some point, sing two lines:

We don’t have an official report yet, but we have a several unofficial reports that Hollywood leading man Rex Reason has died.

Of course, he played Cal Meecham in the movie “This Island Earth,” riffed in MST3K: THE MOVIE.

And, in 1996, at MST3K’s CONVENTIOCON EXPOFEST-A-RAMA 2: ELECTRIC BUGALOO in Minneapolis, he took part in a celebrity panel that also included Kim Cattrall and Russell Johnson.

When we get an official report, we will update this post.

I always loved his voice... but as a front-man he acted like a cock-rock pre-madonna little bitch-ass nigga.  Well at least it took a bit longer for the heroin to kill him.  48 years old is many years older than the typical dead at 33 rockstar syndrome.  They were a really great band for a few years there.  ah well.
