Huh?  Vaccines usually are given prior to a possible infection.  Also, "for testing the American drug AND vaccine?"  A few things may be garbled in transmission here.

Anyhoo, I'm not planning to be first in line for any vaccine.  The more guinea pig volunteers before me, the better. 

Running some numbers for a major Texas metro, Houston, and I wouldn't be surprised if something close to herd immunity is achieved prior to widespread vaccinations.  Houston is already approaching 130,000 REPORTED cases, at a rate of around 2000 new cases reported per day.  A number of articles have reported that the ACTUAL number of cases is probably anywhere from 6 to 24 times the REPORTED cases.  At the current rate, and assuming, let's say a 10 times greater than reported number of infections, just for the hell of it, over half of the Houston metro would have been infected by the end of this year.  Burn, baby, burn.  You just don' t want to get caught in the fire.

Which is weird because back then we didn't shut down the entire economy, close all schools, ban churches, cancel all sports, had a rational immigration system, less of an urban population, and supposedly we have a much better healthcare system than back then. So, I guess, what Lenny Bernstein is saying is that Corona-Chan is actually worse than the Spanish Flu of 1918! Too bad they didn't throw in the death toll from WWI violence and other diseases into the Spanish Flu death data. Then they could still be the champion. Other than Black Death at least, another nice one Asia gave us.

Also, a few days back, there were reports that around 50% of the population has preexisting defenses against the "novel" corona virus. They had taken some blood from last year (before the wuflu was around) and exposed it to Covid19 and found that around 50% of the samples (more or less, depending on country) responded as though it were a known virus.

This gets me wondering how smart masks are. If we suddenly stop getting exposed to various strains of colds and flus, are we going to end up like the native population of North America and suddenly be very susceptible to every new virus that comes along? Is it really smart to do what we are doing in the "name of science?" Or rather on the orders of idiot politicians?

I'm not saying that I'm heading out to a Covid party- but accidental exposure at my age may provide some immunity or protection against COVID-39 when it rolls around in twenty years and my risk factors (age) are increased.

It was a nice narrative when they were able to say that it was "novel" and nobody was immune. Now it appears that even that is untrue.*

*I am still not willing to risk my health. I will continue wearing my respirator and avoiding all friends and family until such time as there is a vaccine to keep me safe.

One interesting theory to explain the surprisingly high proportion of people who test positive for antibodies but never got sick -- somewhere around 40% -- is that exposure to a low dose of viruses, such as through an imperfectly sealed mask and as emitted by a sick person wearing another imperfectly sealed mask, lets you fight it off without noticing while a full-on snort of pure unfiltered air might overwhelm the immune system and make you sick.  Which kind of makes sense.  So we should wear masks forever, and not the medical-grade ones.  Those humble offerings of cat-lady quilters may be the superior product.
