The same could have been said of the GOP before Trump. They really thought Rubio was the future of the party. This election cycle has seen the rise of the alt right, which is the true future of the party if it's to survive. Strong enforcement of immigration laws, disengagement from foreign adventurism, inclusion of gays. THAT is the way forward. Rubio was just a tan version of the same old empty suit.

If Rubio was smart he should've co-opted and promoted the homosexual rumors (foam parties, his arrest drinking beer in a known "pick up place" park, etc. Not only gain millennial and Hispanic vote but also cause cognitive dissonance in the brains of Hollywood and their media and Party. He was so plugged in to the establishment, his campaign was so controlled and focus grouped it would have never flown.
