No, they don't.  My wife falls into that camp unfortunately. I need to point this fact out to her again.

I think evangelical Protestantism falls short. It strikes me as song and dance and whipping up of emotions. Were I a Christian still, I would go deeper and explore the actual protestant reformation, old orthodoxy, old-school Catholicism, the Jews and the roots of Christianity etc. and above all read and think about the NT independently. You'd think people would do that more rather than thump on the bible.

They are going to come in like a bat out of hell is what you're trying to say, Bill.

Raised as a Protestant, I lean a lot more towards Catholicism privately though I don't really believe in the sanctity of the saints and the Virgin Mary nor do I believe in the Pope as the representative of God on Earth. I do like the ceremonial aspects of Catholicism.  My wife used to be Baptist but she's more Pentecostal now but not the crazy stuff like holding snakes or speaking in tongues.

lol, my grandfather was a Pentecostal preacher i don't really ever recall him speaking in tongues much but my uncle did and it always scared me as a kid. They didn't handle snakes though... But the whole tongues thing reminds me way to much of bad past demonic experiences so i don't really believe in it. Tongues were supposed to be other languages not gibberish and i never once heard anyone in church start speaking Japanese.

Maybe I lean more towards Greek and Eastern Orthodox in my religious views.

I grew up Catholic, but gave it all up entirely. But I do like the ceremony, but they've sort of sold out on that one. The Orthodox still have it together though in my opinion.

I think you should lean more towards this right now....

What the bible says and I'm paraphrasing as I can't remember the exact words is wherever 2 or more are gathered, let 1 speak in tongues and let another interpret.  There is never an interpreter in these Pentecostal churches.  I think it's a bunch of jibber-jabber myself.  I've never heard one of these Pentecostals speak in Latin or Aramaic. Just wacky words strung together.

Me too.  The only thing I like are the cathedrals.

LOL!!!  I already had my steak tonight.  A scrumptious 18 oz Ribeye.  No eggs though.  Just corn and potatoes.

Yes.  I love the Orthodox churches.  That is the closest to the church that existed in the first centuries of Christianity.

I don't understand how someone could translate jibber-jabber. Other known languages sure...

My grandfather was a good man though and when he passed he was talking and said his wife who had died 20 years previous was in the hospital room. I am 100% sure he made it to a good place when he passed even if Pentecostalism is heresy. As long as you believe and do your best in life it's enough to make it to heaven IMO.

I would agree. Their services and such have a very ancient community feel to them, much like an old fashioned Jewish synagogue. A connection to thousands of years of faith. Evangelicals just seem glitzy and newfangled lol. Catholics just seem to want to protestantize everything these days.

Yeah, me too. I'm agnostic at best, probably a little less. But I do appreciate the history and art.
