If you wanna hear vocal fry to the extreme, google Hamilton Morris.  That motherfucker sounds like a frog with a sore throat.

Vocal fry -makes me want to go out and catch 'loud' fish.

Art

You bet, Art.  Because she "gets it", eh?

Let's get out the Sunshine Pump. Heather's ass is nowhere near full, yet.

While we're at it, let's break out the rainbow cannon too!

;D Last nights show was nothing to crow about.

I think Heather is doing a great job. The only complaint I have is: and uh. She seems to says this quite often, and uh, I find myself listening, and uh, waiting for, and uh, her to, and uh, say and uh.

What I mean by that is she tends to give a couple of possible answers and  package them into something that seems like a question so the guest doesn't have a lot of leeway. And then getting to the actual question takes so long sometimes because she's sort of pontificating while asking a question. If I could give her any advice would be to talk less. Maybe ask segmented questions instead of long rambling ones with multiple layers and quite frankly, sometimes multiple questions within a question. I think this is one of the reasons that there are those uncomfortable pauses between her and her guest where neither one is quite sure what the question was exactly and how to begin to answer.
I agree with that criticism.  She seems to have gotten worse in that regard over the nights she's been on, which is a bad sign that she's more comfortable talking than listening, and that it took her a while to get comfortable.  Or it could be coincidence, a matter of the order the guests were on, with her judgment of how much questioning they each needed.

Art would give interviewees all the rope they needed to hang themselves, but did not tie the noose.  Nor did he try to wank their answers to make the guests sound more reasonable.

I used to hear a stark contrast in midday on WNYC when Brian Lehrer's interview show was followed by Leonard Lopate's.  Lehrer was as fair as fair could be, while Lopate was presumptuous & slanted things awfully.  (They're still on AFAIK, I just put it in past tense because I hardly ever listen any more.  Lehrer also very noticeably changed his style around the turn of the century from almost painfully fair to more of a reacting human being, so to speak.)

AZZERAE

Google earth screencaps and drone injuries while a faceless girl speaks over all Art's would-be guests.

Push has reached shove.

:(

i think things have been sounding better than I expected... just got into last nights show this morning but then got sidetracked with actual work... will be tuning back in.

can't wait for the "falkie-cast" later... should be a real hoot

Wow, what a trainwreck. What I can't figure out is how a guy like Art with age, much experience, various jobs, previous legal issues, and radio history and reputation etc can find himself in such a situation from the get-go? From the "music issues" fretting to this recent quitting it seemed like the whole enterprise was suspect and not managed like it was intended to be a business.

I agree. I call this the "Whitley Strieber Syndrome". Any interview he hosts revolves around HIM rather than the guest. I don't want Heather to fall into this trap. I noticed that she talks a lot about herself and her own experiences. Art seldom does that. She needs to focus totally on the guest, not herself.

Rainbow cannon? Is Heather gay? ;-)

One thing for sure is she's going to catch hell whatever she does.

"She doesn't let us know who she is."
"She always is talking about herself."
"She doesn't let the guest talk."
"She's letting the guest run the interview."

and on, and on, and on. [/Highwayman]

Dude, he's bored. My brother recently retired and he's driving the whole family nuts wanting to "talk" and "say hi" and do shit with us. I mean what the hell man, lol just kidding about my brother but i think Art has too much time on his hands now..

He needs a hobby, such as collecting photos of hot Asian babes and wall papering his bathroom with them. Or, becoming Dr. David Jacob's administrative assistant and taking text messages from threatening Hubrids. Or he could go on the campaign trail supporting Trump or some other wackadoodle right wing nut case.

Reading something on the air seems to be difficult for her to pull of smoothly. Perhaps she would do better if she just directed everyone to a link to the story and paraphrased what the story is about so she told it naturally. Right now she is reading certain things, and making a mess of it.
Overall she is not doing that bad, but never gonna carry the show and network without art. And it appears that show needs to do that..

I think she needs a man to read the news. Whatever happened to that guy that had that velvet voice that read Art's news?

Wasn't that Leo Ashcroft who went all postal on Art? he and Keith fought all the time. Art sided with Keith and Leo went berserk. He supposedly went to work for C2C (why they would want him, I will never know). Now he shoots poison pen comments out towards Art on Leo's Facebook page. (The gossip about Art Bell is so much more interesting than the Kardasians).

The woman who reads the news drives me crazy. What is with that bizarre inflection in her voice. She emphasizes odd words at random and ends every sentence in a strange inflection that on one in "real life" uses. Is it so hard to just speak naturally?

I dont mean the news. I mean early in the show when heather is telling a story and reading a news report on it. She seems to have trouble doing that.
The news segment should never have appeared on arts show or heathers  show unless they wanted to purposely drive subscribers away of course. Its horrible.

Art says he never listens to his own shows, which makes sense why he allowed that on it. He must have never heard it.

Haha yeah good point.  Comparing the negativity in here with Art's threads, it's about the same.  Which proves that our collective misery is the constant.

There's always the GNS and Falkie threads.  He said he's not quitting BG.  Maybe MV should ban him to get a head start. "You can't quit.  You're fired!"

Well put. There also seems to be a sudden influx of trolls who have nothing but shit to talk, while the rest of us are trying to make sense of it all- if that's even possible.

She sounds to me like she is working on the shopping channel while smoking a joint.

Next time keep that in mind when you listen. She is not able to fill the chair, although she is giving it the ol' college try.
