There you go. Now you're getting it.   :D

I confess that I'm a little bored with the subject.  There is nothing new and the subject has been done to death.  These days, I buy UFO books and store them to read later on.  I prefer a good "true" book about ghosts, demons and the like.  I also simply prefer plain old horror novels. However, I find myself reading non-fiction historical books more and more as I get older.  History has always been a passion of mine.

You might like anything by Rudy Rucker. Great sci-fi. Wetware is a good one to start with.

Hey Nancy I really like your show.

Same here, if you want to do something, I'll go for it.
I think it would be better not to do it live, we could do it like MST3k while we listen to a Hoagie show, it could be a older Hoagie show that we choose, one of his many bat shit crazy shows.
Drinking should also be involved ;D

Quote from: albrecht on December 08, 2015, 11:19:31 PMDon't get me wrong, I buy paper-milled, I think almost algorithm generated, books, sometimes. For flights etc. And there are formulas, for sure, in many genres. I wonder the future in many genres with ghostwriters and, worse, the segmentation of market; much worse the quality of writing and references/history in modern books.
Ever write to formulas?  I sold 7 essays to the company that does eHows.  Had trouble for a while because they demanded slavish devotion to a formula not only for the writing but for dealing w the editors.  Then they decided they no longer wanted me, but kept sending auto-generated solicitations to get me back, only to have to send me away again.

Then I wrote endorsements for a test prep course company.  How many distinct ways can you write the same thing?  Really exhausting churning out such variations on a theme.

Robert

That's how Jacobs is going to monetize this!  He'll sell devices he had a specialist invent as protection vs. abduction.

History has always been one of my favorite subjects. I studied the history of Russia and Germany in particular. Fascinating stuff.  You know that expression, we learn from history that we do not learn from history.  Or, of course, if we do not learn from history we are doomed to repeat it.  There are a few similar expressions. The bottom line is, the more history you study the smarter you get and the more despondent you can become living in a world where most people don't give a damn about history. That being the case, you become smarter and smarter and more able to see the shitstorm that might be coming that others are completely oblivious to. That can make you feel like kind of a lonely person in a sea of hairless monkeys.   ;)

Nothing comes close to capturing the true meaning of Christmas like that "Light of Brian" psychic who promises to channel a festive, personal holiday message from the deceased loved one of your choice, and even records it so you can share those special tidings of comfort and joy from the Great Beyond with the rest of the family.  It's guaranteed to be the one gift they'll never forget!

Yeah, I'm up for it. Let's get shitfaced and record it. PM me.

I also like good erotica.  I tried to read 50 Shades of Grey and couldn't get past the "Inner Goddess" crap.  Many 1970's and 1980's flicks were a lot sexier than that film they made out of it.  Talk about borrrrrinnng.

My family would have a much better time sitting around watching The Life of Brian.

if you want to talk formula, there used to be a HUGE market for boiler-plate dirty books. Probably not the kind you're talking about. They were more like romance novels formula and reading level.

You and I see things the same way there. I assume you've read all of the Massie books.  I read Nicholas and Alexandra years ago and just finished Catherine The Great a little while ago.  I enjoyed both immensely.  I haven't read the Peter the Great book yet but I have it here at home.  I should read more and listen to radio less.

Right now, I'm on a Civil War kick.  Trying to get inside the heads of all of the generals and soldiers who fought in that war.
