20150922 - Dr. Kevin Trenberth - Climate Change - Live Show Chat Thread

'What are we going to do wait for coastal cities to be inundated?'

What else is supposed to happen to coastal cities on a long enough time line?  THEY'RE COASTS.

'Wait until people can't live there anymore?'

It's not like people haven't been migrating away from inhospitable environments since forever?  Oh right we live on an ever changing planet where 'weather' happens.

Just tuning in .. Late to the party .... Are there any DAVEBOTS lurking around tonight?

Yeah, Dave is a big climate change denier, all the davebots are here denying climate change. Bwahaha. Great minds think alike.

Barfly

Here is a interesting fact the Carlisle Group has been buying up hotels in Miami and the Keys the last 2 years, now whether or not you like the Carlisle Group, these people would not spend billions in properties that are supposed to be underwater by now according to Al Gore

PrairieGhost

I don't get how taxes can help. So I pay you to keep using the same amount that hurts the environment. How does that help the environment all? It just hurts the people IMHO.

Loving how Art is asking tough questions.  Thank you Art!

But only calling out the oil companies as the reason there is resistance to this idea is silly.  The money and funding going into global warming/climate change validation is even bigger.

Yes. But how long you going to wait? (She asks as she hoses down her roof as the flames get closer)
When the Yellowstone caldera lets loose, we will all chill for a long time.

Art did not just say "FACTS", Did he???  Damn Art.  I call BS again.

Nobody says "they're making it up to scare us".  They say "they're making it up to get away with more power".

Arctic sea ice, at its minimum for the last two years was bigger than the previous year... In other words it went down and for two years has been growing.

It looks like the growth stopped last year:

2011    1.67    September 11
2012    1.31    September 17
2013    1.95    September 13       growth
2014    1.94    September 17       slight decline
2015    1.70    September 11

1979 to 2000 average     2.59    September 13
1981 to 2010 average    2.40    September 15

That's the funny thing, there are quite a few plans out there to mitigate climate change that are being acted on. It's just that media doesn't report about them. There's actually an engineer in Scotland, a very well respected one, that thinks it can be fixed with a 300 million dollar project to raise cloud albedo. Because of these programs climate change will eventually just disappear from the news because the problem was fixed and everyone will forget about it.

Now, that would make a good argument for the polar flip! ;D
Maybe stop the flip halfway and make the equator the poles.  Hi Sis!
Speaking of flips, just wondering, do compasses point south in Australia. I imagine so but never thought about it beforr

According to True Believers there can be no legitimate scientists who disbelieve in the sacred climate change dogma. Such heretics surrender whatever educational and scientific achievements that they would otherwise have attached to their names.

However, actors, rap artists, and Deadheads who recite the sacred dogma are to be awarded standing as scientists no matter what else is lacking in their education. So it is written, so it shall be.

Jesus, what a bitter-sounding, judgmental post.  I happen to believe in it and I am nothing like how you paint the True Believers.  Get real.

Welp, pretty much just lost me.  What a total jackass this guy is...  There are plenty of scientists who disagree with him, but he acts like anyone who does is in denial.  He's the one in denial.  He wants the little guy to pay for the big guys' mistakes.  He's a politician, and only a distinguished scientist with people who agree with him.  I'm not wasting my time with a political talk show.

Bout 10 years ago, I worked with 2 liberal earth science professors.  I politely told them that I thought it was great that Al Gore had made his movie.  They said, hey, we like Al, but he's dead wrong.

CARBON DOES NOT CAUSE GLOBAL WARMING.  GLOBAL WARMING CAUSES INCREASED CARBON.

These guys weren't calling for a tax on every human being.  They showed me in a text book how this works, how the sun is heating up and how this is heating all planets in the solar system.  And they were both extremely liberal.

I'll be back when we get back to the actual forum of supernatural fringe topics rather than obvious politcal baiting.

Time for Art to start posting his guests on the website so we can choose to listen to the actual forum instead of the political baiting.  Have fun with all the rage calls who know how full of shit this shill actually is.  I'm just sorry I listened until 1:15 AM to find out he was going to start calling for a carbon tax.  You want us to pay for BP in the Gulf and Fukushima???  For every ecological crime ever committed by any corporation?  FIRST POLICE THE CORPS, THEN YOU CAN TAX THE REST OF US.

If you're going to have a political show, Art, SAY IT UP FRONT so I can find something else to listen to.

So, like I said, it went down and came back up.  2013, 2014, and 2015 are all higher than 2011 and 2012.  In 2010 Al Gore said input would all be gone by 2015.  It's not.

Habs just lost to TO.
Everyone in MTL has declared the season to be over already.
Hyperbole is in our water in these parts.

How has Kassian looked? Trading him was one of the infuriating things I've endured as a Canucks fan.

Oh, so there are more "legitimate" scientists who disbelieve in global warming then there are who believe in it? Please point us to the data, Einstein.

Anyone who disbelieves the sacred global warming dogma excommunicates himself from the Church of Scientism. Therefore only True Believers are left to be Legitimate Scientists. You know that, 'bagger.  Res Ipsa Loquitur.

We should be much more concerned with a polarity shift.  Already mass magnetic spotting, and we're well overdue.  That is real science.  But no money and routes for power grabs making that a big issue.  Climate change is simply a way for the UN to gain more power over sovereign countries, and taxation.  Also mandates more control over industry, and complete government oversight.  That is why climate change is "a thing".  Nothing more.

66% of climatologists do not even take a position on climate change.  I'm betting 99% agree we're over due for a polarity shift.

Real science.

Too soon to tell, really. Excited to see his work as a winger but I'm not gonna pass any sort of definitive judgment after one pre-season game.... Unlike the rest of the city, who I'm sure has about 10,000 different ideas about how he handles himself on the ice.

I don't remember the specifics but the few days post 9/11. There were interesting climate impacts from drastic cancellations of flights. 're: albedo I also read how all our air traffic increases global cooling
