Yeah, there's tonnage of story behind that bowl. Raised in Southern Arizona, I grew up with that pottery. Right at the time I was becoming interested in alternative consciousness, I met an Apache man living in the way out being all meditative and such, making pottery. He was the founder of the Peyote Way Church, a very storied dude, artist, and mystic. Long, long story short, I apprenticed with him for a few years and eventually had my own pottery studio for over a decade. At his passing in 2010, a gathering of his former students laid him to rest in the small church cemetery. His spiritual descendents still exist and continue to make beautiful earthenware. My house, already somewhat of an art gallery, is heavily populated with their trademark Mana Pottery. http://manapottery.com/  Among the many collectors of Mana pottery former NBA dude Bill Walton probably has the largest collection. I'm attaching a few pics including a mural which they were kind enough to make for me by special request.

Thank you for sharing your story and the art. Beautiful.  I love traditional artwork. Oaxaca figurines are a favorite of mine. I have a few pieces but very much just a casual collector. I have never seen much besides animals but many are fantastical.  Here's a few stock photos.  I had to put mine up because my cats think they are toys

Good to see that your back online and everyone is ok up there in PA. Things slowly recovering here after the latest failed attempt to drive some of us from the ether.
