No ultimatums! You can both co-exist here.  He knows the score now. ;)

Not going to happen. I don't call in to shows to bitch slap the host. I figure it ruins what other people are listening for. Plus he would just hang up on me. I was asked to be a guest and turned it down.

trostol

looks like the new macgyver was crap
I saw the previews. It looked like it was a cheap knock off. Most remakes fail to capture the feel of the originals though.

Darren seems OK, even if he's a bit in the dark about the history of this thread and Hoagland. It's probably better he finds out about Hoagy's true nature sooner than later. :-\

Take Care GS. Good seeing you again. :)

he mentioned something about being on satellite or something

I just vaguely remember him saying that. At the end he also mentioned Big things next week, but he's been saying that almost every week for quite some time now. ;)

For Darren:

M may think we're just haters but I bet when she reads we liked a show like the scientology one, she probably knows it's meaningful praise
Exactly. Along with calling Hoagy out on his bullshit, we also post our approval when we enjoy a show. We might seem like tough crowd, but most of us here call it like we see it. Our honesty is brutal at times, it is, but at least when we post that we like something about the show, M & Hoagy, or anyone else reading these threads can be pretty sure we're not just sucking up. It's an honest compliment.
Art gave this a name. He called it "Vaguely Lovable" (referring to the posters in general on BellGab.)

the thing about hoagie is, he's one of those complex cases, where i have such mixed feelings - he can be so knowledgable and even charming, but can also be a misguided goof with delusions of grandeur ... i wonder sometimes why I still listen, I think it's because no matter what you think of what he claims, he's usually an interesting personality .... also i've read/watched so much scifi/fantasy/horror/conspiracy stuff over the years that i always find the ideas interesting even if only speculation

...darren needs to get that we are fans of hoagie but we dont believe everything he says
Well said.

And then this,

Believe it or not most of here are actually fans of Hoagie (sort of). He's just consistently let us down so much that it's kind of an ongoing joke now.

I can tolerate Hoqgland postulating all kinds of stuff until he starts bad mouthing NASA stating they altered images to cover up his glass domes on the moon or to hide his face on Mars, or when he calls us useless eaters or fires Rossy without paying him or takes credit for other peoples work or refuses to submit his "data" for peer review or mentions hyperdimensional physics or has an open lines show and doesn't take calls or when he coddles to Michelle.
...
Quote from: zeebo on September 24, 2016, 01:47:00 AM
Don't forget when he & the panel dismissed astroguy as a 'crater counter'.   ::) ;)

is what turned us to the dark side.

The Star wars references in our posts and avatars have nothing to do with the franchise or because we're super-fans, we're not. It's a direct shot across the bow regarding how we hate the way Dick has treated people - coworkers, his audience, his guests - and still does.  He totally blew more than one interview that could have been awesome, with his attacks on the guest, constant interruptions about irrelevant things to steer the conversation away from areas of true science, and interruptions to skew the guests' train of thought.

He also gives credit for the Club 19.5 symbol art work on his webpage to some freaking imposter when it was conceived and developed here. He did that deliberately to spite this website and specifically this thread.

So Hoagy's no angel, but we still listen. Why do you think that is ?

You and expat are like the uncles who won't stop fighting Goldwater/Johnson long enough to enjoy a piece of cake.

Fuck it. I guess I am with Trostol.

Once in a blue moon, I regret being an East Coast guy with a day job.  On occasion, it would be a hoot to follow along with
Hoagland's show and shit post in here.  The thought of Hoagland fielding calls  is wild enough but then to have it shut down
and turn into some sort of invective, soliloquy sounds awesome!

Alas, I'll probably never know............

The funny thing is, I'd probably like a podcast featuring the reminiscences of old NASA folks every bit as much.  Hoagie is a great communicator -- not of his theories (I still have no idea why a tetrahedron should have special properties) but of scene-painting.  I can feel the desert wind, see the cardboard-cutout sets at CBS, imagine the distant sunlight reflecting off Martian cliffs, ride with Cronkite in a convertible down to Florida.  There was one description he gave of a visit to some institute on the California coast back in the '60s that was just magical.  I don't know whether you engineer-types can ever compete in that arena.  Takes the soul of a poet.

I don't go out of my way to diss the guy. He does have the gift of gab. I love a good story as much as anyone. When he is not asking a question and then butting in to answer it himself, he can actually do a good interview. When he starts spouting his pseudoscience, I usually just turn it off. There is only so much disbelief that I can suspend.

1/3 of an imaging panel was all I ever could listen to. Tying politics to a hyper dimensional physics model isn't even funny anymore. At least for me.

I supported the show for quite awhile with Club 19.5 to support DMRN. I've never gone back to listen to any of the archives. Without this thread, I would never listen to the show.
