People in the UK look back on the Second World War with fondness in 2016, but that is because the war has been over for 70 years and few people remember what it was actually like.

Ask people what they thought of the war during the war and the answer would have been, "I hate this."  The guest sounded like he did not have a clue just how dreary and miserable food rationing was, not to mention clothes rationing, petrol rationing, etc.
