You know, I'm thinking that this thread should be a sub-thread to the 'Things that annoy me' thread.

Sometimes geological features on Mars are JUST GEOLOGICAL FUCKING FEATURES.  These are motherfucking mountains and rippled, rocky landscapes.  Stop insulting us.  I simply cannot believe that 2 hours was spent on this bullshit.

Also RCH, if everybody on skype sounds bad it's not them.  Its your connection pal.

Hey former Braapsters. I read your posts from last night. You are turning into a sad pathetic bunch.  :( I need to save you from yourselves before you all turn into bitter old alcoholics. At least those of you who aren't already.

Since the replacement live show hasn't worked out is there an alternative we can agree on? A rotating podcast. Different shows on different nights i.e. Star Talk, Art Classics, even an occasional RCH when merited, etc? It would take a little up front planning but something like that could be really entertaining. You could work on it while (not) listening to Dick

I cannot believe RCH is such a rude, whiny, little bitch about it - especially as he fucks up the connections with annoying regularity.

i have no idea what else is on at the 3 am/midnight hour and finding any sort of concise schedule is seemingly impossible..i would prefer something more live then pre-record broadcast...i have though been able to catch up on some gaming since i stopped listening lol

R's show does provide an outlet for us to sink our venomous fangs into, but I do sorely miss the good-natured humor that it once generated.  As far as last nights Mars show went, I spent the time playing Skyrim.  Was going to catch the end of the show but missed it by twenty minutes.

Now here's a good idea for a Saturday night BellGab Podcast.  Live Steam With Barfly.  I'd certainly come in the Chat Room. ;D

I don't know if anyone here will be interested, since I'm not here to complain, but it is OSOM show related.

Last night (Monday, Nov 2), I turned over to the 2nd hour of the Mike Malloy Show, about 10 minutes into the hour (live), and Malloy was talking to a caller (or guest?). Caller/guest mentioned a show wherein Mars and Pluto were talked about, and some upcoming show the topic of which I can't recall (I should have written it down, but it sounded mildly interesting to me; I think it will be a health oriented topic). Malloy grew wistful, saying something like he'd like to do such shows.

Then he asked "Scott" if his (Scott's) show was internet based, on radio, or what? Scott said there are plans for a presence on radio stations (not exactly his words, I failed to write them down, too), but he couldn't talk about them since things are still in the planning stages. Malloy understood, thanked him for the chat, wished him well and went on to a commercial.

So of course I realized it was that Scott (I better not say "our Scott" in this venue) and for some reason that I was too late to hear, he had called in or been called, and he was publicizing OSOM. How cool is that? (I know, most people here don't think it's cool at all but yawn inducing if not downright insulting.) Scott is trying to get the word out about the show, which is good. He turns up on twitter a lot -- which doesn't help me as I check it maybe once a day, hours too late, but he gets brownie points from me for trying. I suspect he does more on facebook than people previously charged with promoting the show.

This morning (11/3) I went into the OSOM site and under "show notes" (which I think is a helpful new feature? Or I just missed it before), and grabbed all the pictures they were talking about in the last two Mars shows so I can refer to them offline.

I did let my subscription continue for both OSOM and MITD. $5 each is a good price since I'm usually sleeping when they're broadcast and buying a digital recorder specifically for them would cost at least ten months' worth of shows and tie up my internet radio for 5 hours at night, too.

Now all I have to do is figure out what "braap" means.

What a nice post! You seem to be genuinely a fan of the show.

Turn, run away as fast as you can! Save yourself and leave this place!

I'm not a fan of Hoaxland as much as I'm a fan of live, long interview type radio. Dick makes it hard to love his show. I gather many here have tried to like the show but are now giving up on it.

The "braaps" thing started much like Limbaugh's "dittos" and Bell's "Roswells" as a friendly insider greeting among the fan base. Dick's shows are replete with ambient noises one of which is his chair creaking making a braaps sound...

The fact that Dick has treated the forum with indifference hasn't helped him grow his fan base.

The show is fine but the relentless arcology bull is insulting and annoying.  Plus the production issues are kind of an issue for the producer.... Or actually definitely thr producer's responsibility.

Also, if he cares so much about how everyone sounds maybe he should insist that his regular panel of yes men should get a decent microphone and learn how to use them.

This right here is the biggest problem with the show, always has been and always will be as we can't expect Hoagland to suddenly forget about Mars and Pluto. That would be like asking a dog to forget about bacon.

Auslandia

He has had great original shows & then it devolves into his panel of fools making imaginary cities out of rock formations.   Then,  every time he has a technical glitch he says something like hmmm  very suspicious as if anybody who would have any control over his show actually gives a rats ass about what he's talking about .  Maybe it's just his crappy Internet connection. Sometimes it's as simple as that

trostol

the show was good..ever since Scott became the producer the show is crap even when he isn't talking about Mars/Pluto..which oddly since Scott has taken over is pretty much all he has had on going back looking at the guests..his open lines are awful cause he has to talk over everyone and generally takes few calls and steers it to topics he prefers

also since Scott has taken over we have had 1 replay and 1 return guest with in a week of her being on...leading me to believe..Scott is just a yes man to Dick's rambling mind

We're not naturally a group of complainers. Well maybe overstated but we used to have a lot of fun here. Until the braaps went bruup. So now my boys are depressed and getting into some unfortunate behavior. Just trying to do a little intervention for my guys.

And Debby a word to the wise. I would take the advice to run

It's good that Scott is trying in his own way, and I'm glad you still find value in the program.  I don't know what our own Saucy Rossy's participation was on Facebook when he had the position, but he worked very hard to promote the show and do so much more.  He got great guests and shaped the show into something worth listening to most every night with an eye to providing great entertainment as well as great conversation.  Scott just seems like he's content to sit back, post a few things on Facebook, make a few comments, and let Hoagland do whatever he feels like.  If you sense a bit of discord here it's because we're all still a little upset about the show losing Saucy Rossy and Hoagland's alleged treatment of him.

I only really am interested in live stuff, preferably with crazy callers. Sadly I don't think we'll ever be able to find something to recreate the braaps magic.

Lets face it, we're all here because of Art. The only reason most of us listened is because we're night owls and OSOM came on after Art and we didn't need to really tune in. We could all just leave the channel on and move to this thread. The only way we'll ever get anything back is if Art fires Hoaxland and replaces him with someone else. I am not sure my torsion field powers are that powerful. I've been trying!  ;D

As I've grown bored with Art's show, the only thing bringing me around is our group. Unless it's something like open lines, if I join the thread I probably won't even be listening anymore and just here for the group.

....aaaaaand it's open lines tonight. So much for the promised "great shows."

I previously predicted that this abortion of a radio show would be gone by Christmas. Now I think maybe Thanksgiving. Mmmmkay will quit in frustration and Hoagland will have the full hissy fit.
