He's stuck in the science fiction of the 50's through 70's but seems to have frozen in that time period. He seems unaware of John von Neumann's singularity, futurism and science fiction past 1990.

I have my doubts as to whether he actually reached the SF of the 70s. Or if he did, it was all movies and TV.

In my imaginary view of Hoagland's place, I can see a sleestack lurking around his property and occasionally coming in through the sliding glass doors to get a glass of water.  Or play with Hoagie's healing crystals.
