season 2 wasnt bad..but drug along at times and a bit too much of her character IMO

It was a hot mess. The main reason the season suffered was do to casting. Lesser known actors in those roles would have taken much of the heat off. The lack of one director with a unifying vision hurt it immensely. I could swear I originally heard it was set in 30's LA and dealt with the water department taking up land and occult ties. This would have been awesome. Season 2 was not the time to play it safe with a contemporary cop story in a contemporary setting.

LA is over done. CA is mostly. Why not do like Raymond Chandler and set it in the woods of northern CA, like "Lady in the Lake"? A retro detective story set in South Africa during the end apartheid with potentially deadly cultural consequences, something retaining a southern gothic vibe, or if we had to go modern, crumbling Detroit.
It should have also kept some mystical overtones and themes.

I'm way behind. Only 4 into season one when it aired. I really liked it. Time to torrent. Speaking of which, what do all of you think are the best horror shows on now? I really love The Strain.

Season two of The Strain was much better than the first. Walking Dead is hit and miss, mostly disappointing imo. Fear the Walking Dead is meh. Haven't touched American Horror Story after the premiere, it's felt more spectacle than horror.

Ash vs Evil Dead is great. The british 3 part adaptation of The Enfield Haunting is fantastic, so much better than most modern horror movies.

Also I watched River yesterday.  Wonderful series about a detective who sees people who are dead.

I read the strain series of books.  Compared to the books the series just seemed silly. I only watched two eps.

Season 2 did something great. It opens with a del Toro directed flash back of the Master's giant body back story done as a fairy tale. It then resists modern cliches and avoids rushing to the apocalypse human vs human thing and continues to slowly show the fall of NYC. It is never over done. The lead also loses that horrid wig finally. In terms of del Toro's American work, this is his best.
