What is this playing now? There's nothing wrong with it. It's actually pretty good but, it woke me up.

Anyhoo, I liked that Tim Wallace-Murphy guy.
And the Lavenda interview was riveting. One of the best I've heard.

Gotta say, as someone with low expectations for RCH's show, I'm pleasantly surprised.

I love listening to Kevin Moore. He does the Brit version of Coast to Coast. Here he is interviewing our Hogie.

Hoagland "predicted" earlier this year in a book he contributed to called "Pluto: New Horizons for a Lost Horizon", that we would see arcology and ruins and all the usual Hoagland insanity. Therefore, I wasn't surprised when NASA downloaded the first images Hoagland would claim yet another prediction coming true. Even though he only had a single lossy image to work with. After all, Richard C. Hoagland is the only "scientist" on the planet that can absolutely GUARANTEE stunning results even before he starts his bullshit experiment Accutron traces.

Now that the New Horizons guys are releasing more lossy images expect Hoagland to go into hyper-bullshit mode. Further down the line when the lossless images arrive on Earth and prove he is yet again talking pish. He will claim, obfuscation, and Paintshop shenanigans from NASA.

Rossy, any chance you can set up a Hoagland, Bara, Dr Robbins roundtable. I would pay to hear that. Especially since Bara has stolen borrowed much of Hoagland's research and written the same book 4 times with it. Dr Robbins, would, of course, be able to keep us all sane by correcting and deflecting the enormous pile of horseshit science that would be muck-spread and aimed at us from Dumb and Dumber.

I have to agree.  I heard most of the first two shows, and vowed not to come back.  Then I heard some good word of mouth, came back, and am more than pleasantly surprised.  Who'd of thunk it?  RCH can do a good interview, can let the guest speak, and is witty and intelligent (when he wants to be).  I fear I may be paying for another Podcast.

FYI, the NASA press release doesn't contain the full-res of the spherical render I made of the high-res mosaic.  JHU/APL has it posted on their site.  It focuses on the lossless 400 m/px mosaic we have, but it includes lower-res data as you can see in the middle-bottom and the middle-top.  To the left is also lower-res, but 800 m/px vs 400 m/px so it's not as obvious as the lossy 2.1 km/px.

astroguy should be congratulated on a fine piece of work, and Hoagland/Laney should be forced to examine it. Alien cities my ass.

I don't think he even plugged OSOM or DMDN...He should take every opportunity to market this show and DMDN...

I don't think many people believe Hoagie's bullshit.  It's just fun entertainment for most of us.

So then... when he says he sees clear evidence of artificial structures on Pluto, Vesta, 67P, Phobos.. you accept that without demanding to see the evidence that he refuses to supply, right? Isn't that a bit pathetic?

I think at this point when he makes those claims no one actually cares to listen, i dont believe his theories but i do know that he is an interesting interviewer and is becomeing a decent radio host.

...ummm, if I tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, will I get booted out of Club Nineteen-Five?

nah just easier to listen and laugh at his craziness then try and call in to discuss it with him..if people other then the Hoagland Avengers believe him then they need their heads checked...

There is a rather substantial amount of unintentional hilarity in the listening too, you know... The only one who really buys into his bullshit is his crazy-assed stalker.

That's my view as well, the stalker is the only one that really buys it. Bara just rips it off to sell books and the rest of us either just chuckle and say "that's our Richard!" or go into fits of rage whenever the subject comes up. I go into fits of rage myself and am often reduced to a babbling heap hiding under the desk muttering "there are no domes" over and over after an arcology show. Gonna be a rough night for me, it's Pluto night.

That said, Richard's a hell of an interviewer/conversationalist. When he's in Dick Cavett mode instead of RCH mode, the show is phenomenal.

And in the watching:  I saw a YouTube video Richard made awhile back and it started with Robin out there on a very cheesy looking stage who introduced Richard and then went "back stage" to cook up some supper.  Richard walks out to thunderous applause (sounded like four or five people (neighbors?)  After that, I don't remember much except that it ended with Richard showing a picture of a Nike shoe on the surface of Mars...and, need I say more?  This is why I really dig Richard C. Hoagland.

It wouldn't be so cringe-worthy if he didn't also denigrate the hard-working, well qualified people who bring him those images for him to fantasize over. He doesn't give the JPL and ASU people any credit at all -- on the contrary, he's constantly snapping at their heels accusing them of skullduggery. Not that they care a damn -- not many of those young whipper-snappers have even heard of Hoagland, I bet. He's from a whole different, totally discredited, era.

I could see people being angry though I think more likely that they either have never heard of him or listening to him for a joke. I enjoy the show and concur with previous poster that when he tones down the 19.5 and goes into interview/conversation mode the show is quite good. And a part of me thinks he even pokes a few jokes about himself sometimes with regard to 19.5 and the "model." BTW, speaking of JPL I think MITD or OSOM should do a show on Jack Parsons, lots of good stuff, historical stuff, and crazy stuff there.

That's my big beef with his narrative theories. The "technology" and "structures" he sees in the images derive directly from what 1950's science fiction writers envisioned an advanced society would look like. Atmospheric domes, android heads etc. Hoagland even made the case that the domes on the moon are made of glass which isn't even consistent with 1950's sci-fi, much less the state of 1950's engineering. You have to go back to Jules Verne for that one to fit.

Futurism and sci-fi moved on and Hoagland didn't keep up. As a result, his schtick sounds increasingly antiquated and out-of-touch. It's become self-discrediting.

Thinking about it again, I'd have to say last night's guest was probably my favorite for RCH so far. Knowledgable on a lot of interesting subjects, well spoken,  and not afriad to give people shit.

starrmtn001

I was listening from bed last night, and I could just "hear" the posts in rapid fire succession.

Damn straight I finally subscribed! ;D

indigoo

After listening to more shows, I have to say I am really enjoying it. Although, it's so hilarious but annoying when I hear Skype calls and telephones in the background, lol. Get rid of that stuff, get more guests like Tim and Peter from this week and let's do this!

Nice, I could have listened to that interview go on for hours. Definitely a good guest to have back.

Has Richard seen this news article today?

http://www.express.co.uk/news/science/604534/There-WAS-life-on-Mars-but-something-catastrophic-wiped-it-out-scientist-says

EXCLUSIVE: There WAS life on Mars but 'catastrophic' event wiped it out, scientist says
LIFE probably did start on Mars, but a catastrophic event must have completely wiped it out, a scientist has claimed.

Holy crap, why did Hoagland wait until he was 70 to start doing a radio show?  And how did he know about Ross's latent producer skillz?  He could have saved us from the monument on Mars shtick and made a legit life for himself.  He could have been a contenda.
