Property taxes are bullshit.  You buy the property and you should only make a tax payment at the time of sale.

what's the alternative? property taxes pay for many essential services including fire/police/ambulance/road maintenance etc

Yeah, It is bad up North.  My parents had a huge property tax bill living in New Jersey.  I see no reason to move back up North until those states get their shit together.  I like the climate better up North.  Give me the winter snow and the somewhat drier summers instead of the 100% humidity we routinely have in the South during the summer.

Oh yeah!  The more you drink from the bottle pay attention to how far you put it in your mouth after each swig as time goes by.  Sometimes we are subconsciously curious and the bottle finds it's way deeper.  I've been there.

You should only pay taxes when you buy goods and services not for merely owning property.  It is your land and if you are old or poor and don't have the money to pay constantly rising property taxes, the government could take your land away from you.  Land you've already paid for. That is wrong and I want no part of it and I will never support such a system.

The devious thing about them is we have politicians that proudly "We didn't raise property taxes," (meaning the percentage) and what they don't say is we just overvalued your property on paper so we can collect more than last year.
