Noah was a decent movie but sort of odd. Its worth a watch.
I am watching "Cold in July" I have no idea what its about, but I have a couple hours to waste tonight.
Yah, Noah has some good CGI and actually sort of interesting storyline because combined stories from the various books and Bibles and the secular/nature element. (-spoiler- I'm sure C2C guests are upset 'watchers' are stone creatures!) I don't know. Good effects, decent storyline, but I got bored. Maybe better in a full screen theater or something. I hate to say it but I actually find reading the original story better. I actually was dozing off during the various attacks and flooding and drama. (Hence, I think in a theater could be better because they force volume on you.) A good attempt but seemed too much to make in one movie.

Just finished "Cold in July" This is a movie I would highly recommend. The whole movie changes course halfway through and it was nothing like I thought it would be. One of the better movies I've seen in quite a while.

Is anyone else looking forward to seeing " Interstellar"? I heard it was supposed to be like "Contact". Saw the trailer, and it looks really good.

Going to check that one out. I like Sam Shepard and plot seems interesting.

Philomena
Casino Royale seals the deal. Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond.
The Killing the last season tied up all the lose ends and ended on a note that made sense. I really recommend this series, now on Netflix, if you like character driven mysteries where the leads don't look like they came directly from the runway, and the 'mystery' isn't solved in a neat 60 minutes. It's an intelligent series that takes its time to tell the story, set in Washington state, and based on a Scandinavian series. I'm liking the Scandinavian detective series a lot since they are less formulaic and more gritty than their US counterparts, like CSI.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is better than I expected. And I had high hopes.  Go see it on the big screen or you'll miss out.

Quill-Gamora 2016

"Somewhere In The Night"  (1946). Decent flick but features a few weird moments. A cop who pulls a, I thought, almost patented "just one more thing" like Columbo! But decades before. And also a bathhouse attendent who muscles subject out of same that later was in Dragent n Capt in MASH as much less strong guy. Also funny references , "I got Hitler here too" n cops who dont go in to obvious house. Good also on vet details actually also if one thinks it is a new story. Not the best but a nice film noire etc.

Dallas Buyers Club  Matthew McConaughey deserved that Oscar. Brilliant acting.

Harry Morgan? I've probably seen this one because I have a friend with a huge old movie collection. The ones he doesn't own we see at the Seattle Art Museum other places that show them or rent them at Scarecrow.

Yes, Harry Morgan. How could the name escape me at the time? It was funny to see him as a young guy and as a sort tough character. Though is was a minor role, he had lines and screen-time.

I'm sure they will figure out a sequel since it made $$ and audiences, or at least I, like the series. I'm trying to recall how the original franchise kept it going plot-wise.

I really wanted to see it, but have to confess I couldn't figure out how to get torrent to work. I know, I know..

Maybe Netflix will have it soon.

I still am meaning to see the Lincoln Lawyer. McConnaughey is really growing as an actor. I enjoyed him in Bernie

I watched The Lincoln Lawyer a week or so back. It was quite good. And True Detective may be the greatest show I've seen. A shame that Vince Vaughn is considered for season two. Like him or hate him, Matthew McConaughey is a hell of an actor. He was good in Mud and Dallas Buyers Club too, two movies of his that I have recently seen.

Watched Gettysburg a few days ago. Watched Gods and Generals Yesterday. Might watch Lincoln and/or Glory soon

If you have never seen Gettysburg, you need to. An incredible movie. Gods and Generals is a big let down, this was the "Extended Director's cut" but it felt like they tried to bite off a lot more than they could chew. It did however capture how insane/gruesome the fighting was.

I also watched Ken Burn's The Civil War this weekend. Thats a long series but worth it too. I am not a American Civil War buff but find it fascinating. So many larger than life individuals with incredible talent and determination squaring off.

Someone with taste. Burns remains my favorite filmmaker. The last of his I watched was The Dustbowl. And if you are deciding on watching either Lincoln or Glory, I'd go with Glory. Lincoln  was decent, but Glory was brilliant. I love a civil war fan. Very nice to see. Cheers to you.

Soon I will be binge watching "True Detective".  ;)

Everything about that documentary was perfect, including the period music. It brought history to life in the words of the people living it. What I found most gripping was the personal correspondence between soldiers and their families, particularly the letters between one soldier who wrote his wife a few days before he died in battle to tell her once more how much he loved her. One little letter put all the human suffering into focus. And the photographs were unforgettable, one especially after the battle in the Wilderness where all there is left is body after body, laying where it had fallen. You could almost hear the eerie silence after the noise of the battle had ended.

Fargo 1996

A friend came up and we were discussing Coen brothers films and decided to see one when we got home. We had a choice if the Big Leibowski, Blood Simple or Fargo and he had already seen The Big Liebowski.

My family went to see Godzilla in IMAX 3-D over the weekend.  Not a lot of substance but it's nice to see some truly escapist old-style movies that don't have a lot of subtext once in awhile.  At one point I realized I was seeing the six story tall eyeball of Ashley Olsen, and her eyes really 'pop.'  Talk about having to be perfect for the camera.

On second thought, there was a bit about EMP attacks.  Don't let George see this movie.  He'll be using it as a technical reference for EMP over the remainder of his 25 year or whatever contract.

PrairieGhost

I just watched Hide and Seek a really good Korean Thriller. It's on Netflix Instant.

I just caught the first three episodes.  I'm digging it so far.

Did any of you watch "the naked spur" on TCM the other day? (1953) James Stewart, Robert Ryan, Jeanette Leigh. if so, What were your impressions? The cable Guide rated it four stars. This is the one where Stewart goes out to bring back Robert Ryan for the $5000 bounty.

Also, on a different note, am really enjoying the series"the strain". In the first episode an airplane lands and everyone on board is dead. On the other hand, "under the Dome" is still stumbling along in season two.

Is there anywhere to watch that online? I checked Hulu and Netflix, but it's not there.
