It's called depravity and it's only shocking because the girls are 12 years old. It doesn't surprise me, but it's interesting that is surprises anyone, given the horrific and senseless murder of 2 year old James Bulgur by two 10 year old boys in the 90's and equally horrifying cases. Kids can be cruel, kids can be mean to each other but it takes something profoundly wrong in the psyche of a child to coldbloodedly plan a murder and carry it out, particularly against an innocent victim. It's a cop out to say this is the result of letting the internet raise a child, even if the internet and urban legends play a part, since ten of thousands  of young people read those legends and don't act out. But there are the very few who are quite terribly sick and perhaps not showing signs, or the signs are ignored, who are quite capable of depraved indifference to human life. In my years of teaching, I met one boy whom I felt capable of doing great harm with no remorse, and it was a chilling, unsettling experience.

BTW, the story about Paul Simonton and his alien pancakes is true, at least according to Mr. Simonton.  A couple of years after the incident, my parents were vacationing in Eagle River and went to see him recount his tale in person at some place in town.  Seems like I remember them mentioning that he had kept one of the pancakes and displayed it in a jar during his talk.  They thought he was entertaining, but didn't take him seriously.  Here's a random link to his story:

When I was 12 I did A LOT of dumb shit, and some of it was dangerous. Luckily I wasn't even as nearly as stupid as these two girls, but for shits sakes these girls are 6 whole years from becoming adults.

Our country carries 25% of the world prison population. That's an awful lot considering we only hold a measly 4% of the worlds population. In this country you're 6 times more likely go to prison than in other countries. We are also the top country for building prisons, and that % is just going to keep going up and up.

I am completely against how the courts are handling this case. It's sick and pathetic how these DA's and Judges act like rabid dogs to throw people behind bars. Fuck the corrupt system. I only hope that one day when the world collapses, those prison bars open up, and the prisoners get their revenge on a whole lot of motherfuckers. Rightfully so.

They stabbed that girl 19 times. Can you imagine stabbing someone even once, let alone 19 times? If that doesn't suggest putting someone away, I don't know what does. There is something intrinsically wrong with anyone, even a child, who can plan, lure and willingly hurt someone as they did, and let's not forget their intent was to kill. They're not stupid kids doing stupid things. They are mentally ill individuals who almost took another life over a fantasy and weren't deterred by the sight of blood or the suffering of the girl they lured. I did a lot of stupid shit as a kid, and had a lot of stupid, extremely vicious shit done to me, but I never attempted to murder another  human being, which is the difference between these two and 99.99% of the rest of pre-teen girls. I don't agree with charging them as adults, or even imprisoning them in the jail system because of their age, but they need to be separated from society for whatever period of time it takes for them to recover some sort of normalcy, because for these two, there will never be truly normal lives again. Look up the author Anne Perry. She's been looking over her shoulder since 1954.

The boys who dragged the 2 year old to the train tracks to let the train run over him after they tortured and mutilated him were eventually set free with new identities. That crime was shocking, and people have long memories. No one's forgotten about either of them which makes their new lives almost impossible. I wouldn't want someone who committed such a murder anywhere near me or any children I know.

If you're trying to murder other kids at that age then there is something seriously wrong with your mind, and it has nothing to do with 'being a child' and everything to do with being a dangerous motherfucker.

I could understand a very small child not understanding that hitting someone or something with the sharp end of a knife is morally and ethically wrong, but someone on the verge of their teenage years is not a very small child.  They fully understand the implications of their actions.
