Maybe it's more of a combination of issues and influences that negatively impact young, impressionable people. I do believe they are dangerous and need to be removed from society. Look at how young some of Charlie Mason's followers were and what ideas he was able to plant in their minds.

I figured some lawyer or "expert" would get her off on the mental health deal. Hopefully she will get treatment but also be kept in a secure facility for many, many decades. Not simply "cured" and released back to society. And her parents are paying for the medical and mental health costs of her victim who, amazingly, didn't die as intended.
