I would love to listen, but all I get is "Loading" on your player at futuretheater.com. Am I doing something wrong?
When I listen 'live', I need to go through Keith's Dark Matter Digital Network site.  I have noticed that Nancy will put the archive up later in the day on Tuesday.

*Nancy, could you post in here and let us know you have last night's show on your Future Theater archive ready for listening pleasure.  Thanks.

It was an excellent show, and thanks for hanging in there. One of these days I'll do better promotion and do our guest justice. I did start tweeting during the show, feeling guilty that all my pals didn't know how much fun we were having.
That is ok. And I ordered the headset so no more sound issues. Hopefully it was that and not my computer. We'll see.

Yeah, I fell asleep and forgot to post the show. It's up now ... and thank you for the very necessary nudge. This is how you forget your 50th anything (details in the show). :)

Fell asleep? I remember a time...not too long ago...when you could stay up all night!  ;)

Thank you for replying to me Ms. C! I’ve read the BellGab thread on and off for a number of years but only joined this summer. I think I may not be cut out to be a forum poster--I know people post to add their thoughts and no one seems to really care if they get a response most times...but I often feel hurt when I post and absolutely no one seems to acknowledge my existence. Except you. I thanked you once before on the Bella-Haven thread for your thoughtful posts...thank you again!

Carry on everyone...

For sure, here's a response BC! Now that you've said that, you'll get deluged for a while, and then ... not so much. I love reading BellGab, but fear posting too much, except at Bella-Haven, of course, where the mood is always sunny.

Here is a lovely virtual pumpkin just for you, just for the fun of it: 🎃! Post often, and others will, too.

I know, right? I'm slacking. I still sort of wish I had that gig, except for the misery part. The very best moment was getting the podcast served up for the morning people. For the first time in my life, I was up before the birds and the milkman. Good times.

Carrying on BC. As ordered.

My god...

If you start your show off discussing how you don't know how to pronounce your guests name....

YOU'RE A TERRIBLE HOST.

Get your shit together.

Yep. If you don't know something, refuse to acknowledge it. That's dignity.

You missed the point entirely.

A professional would actually contact the guest before the show (even by email) and ask them how their name should be pronounced.

I appreciate Bill Birnes, but Nancy needs to take a Talk Show Host 101 class and learn some impulse control.  She couldn't even control herself and read my post on the air making her look even more incompetent!

Sorry Nancy, but I pretty much tune out Future Theater (and another DM show) because, except for Bill, it's too "amateur hour" for my taste.

She probably makes an excuse for herself thinking no one cares except a few of us who are vocal, but there are folks that do care and simply turn you off.  She obviously can't handle constructive criticism in the slightest so I don't expect anything to change.

I might demand professionalism from a product I was paying for. Even then I hope I'd practice a bit more impulse control than you're currently employing.

...I guess I'd better go and actually listen to the episode I'm supposed to be defending  ;D In general though, if a guest's got a name that people stumble over it's best to talk about it on air. Hang a lantern on it.

No, read up-thread - her excuse is you hate women, and if you're a woman, then you must just hate her.

This is just terrible, boring, unprepared, unprofessional radio.  No host should do this, and most don't for these obvious reasons, and why I was ranting about it.

Listening back to the replay, they didn't discuss it as much as I originally thought, but I was really caught off guard by it.  It doesn't show much appreciation for your guest if you can't even learn to pronounce their name correctly prior to having them on the air.

I still find it hilarious that Nancy couldn't resist discussing my comment on the air (12:56).  A perfect example of her lack of control.  EDIT:  There's even a comment on the audio page about her interrupting and arguing.

I find their banter/rambling really boring and Nancy is constantly all over the place which results in no flow of conversation.

As I've said before in this thread, I'm not blind/deaf to the stuff that annoys people about the show - the interrupting each other, the wild tangents just when a previous subject was beginning to bubble, stuff like that - but I see no reason for the actual anger that yourself and others have displayed in the past.

(Stops, looks around at the virtual Hall of Hate he's posting on)

Well, yeah but this isn't the same as noory. noory's the public face of an act of desecration.

Because it makes for a terrible listening experience.  See the comment on the audio page.  You would think this would get through to her at some point but obviously it hasn't.  She's just rude, and tries to excuse it by saying it must be related to her experiences living in Philadelphia, rather than taking any responsibility.

Anyways, I'm done here for now.

I'd suggest Nancy is the one with anger issues - the continual dusty old 1960s divisive feminism crap, constant references to the gender of who's doing or saying what, and insisting any criticism of her stems from misogyny.

By the way I am just curious, any of you in radio? Any of you have any clue how hard this is? And if you think you can do a better job I suggest that you do so. I was going to stay quiet but there is no reason for the mean spirited public comments. I realize this is bellgab, but surely there is a better target out there. I can suggest a few if you like. And before you attack my show I got news for you, I already know I suck. Lol.

You are wrong about this. My life experiences tend to color my opinions, and I was a Trisha-Nixon Republican back then. I abhored hippies.

I have encountered a whole lot of Mad-Men moments, and if you ever encounter barriers because of something totally out of your control, you might grin and bear it or you might point it out. I chose the latter.

Well, I hope you'll at least listen to the other side of the story. We were, all 5 of us chatting pre-show and talking about the pronunciation of her name, and Nancy duTertre thought it might be a good thing to bring up at the beginning, since many ask her about it.

I can't take responsibility for things that make you angry, however.

Thank you Star. I was just trying to point out that attacking my radio "career" doesn't phase me. Lol. I am an amateur at best. The point is that it is so easy to attack and criticize when you are not actually doing something or have not been in that person's  shoes. And fine, you don't like the show, then don't listen. I am pretty sure no one is holding a gun to your head. And if the folks at Future Theater have that much power I shudder to think what is next for us all.  :o

As I now consider myself a radio professional, I fully endorse whatever my fellow broadcasters happen to have said, however libellous or deranged.

I guess I didn't appreciate being called a misogynist.  And what few shows I've listened to, Nancy manages to weave this stuff into just about every topic that comes up.

So PBS, it's not about a radio show being easy or difficult, and Nancy, men who haven't thrown up barriers to women aren't responsible for it - even if they offer up some unvarnished constructive criticism.

This makes absolutely zero sense and sounds like a blatant lie to try to save face.  I'm also beginning to see a pattern of lying from you in order to attempt to save face when someone criticizes you.  You accept no responsibility for your own behavior and unprofessionalism.  None what so ever.

If Bill, or Angel, someone with some credibility, wants to back you up then fine, until then I'll assume you're a liar.

My point has always been: Dark Matter fans deserve better.  You just don't cut it as a radio host.

Well, since both the Nancys in question signed lifetime honor codes at Princeton, you can believe we honor such a code, or you think that's a lie, too. You also totally didn't read my sentence, which is very Zen: I'm not taking responsibility for your anger.
