Art Bell Quits Dark Matter

I don't think Art gave us much hope.
No progress report after all this time.
He did say it would only make matters worse - and why would he care about that unless he still had some hope?

It seems so insulting to buy a radio to listen to Art and getting slapped with Noory.
Do other people think that Noory has so many indications that are mentioned in those "Low T" commercials?

Nope, Art said yesterday that he is working on the NC with a lawyer(s). I think his legal team probably told him to tell his fans to knock it off. Very bad publicity for Sirius.

Yeah, I posted too quickly.  Makes complete sense going forward.

I am sure we all made some kind of impression. When I called SXM the woman I spoke to seemed very interested and was supposedly writing down much of what I had to say. We spoke for about 15 min. She said this Art Bell thing was lighting up the place and she was actually on overtime to help keep up. In closing she assured me our voices are being herd and caller notes passed up the ladder. Don't give up hope.

On a more negative note I wonder if Art even wants the contract voided? Wouldn't it be something if SXM called him up and said "You better call off the art-troopers or we are putting up a public statement that your released and you'll have to face your fans and explain truthfully how you just don't want to do radio" If he don't the contract gives him plausible denial for now. I'm sure I'm wrong but it is a funky thought huh? If they free him a lot of doubters will have their answer, or their proof. If not it will be another Art mystery for us to debate for another 2 years.

The way I see it, is that Art asking us to stop the campaign means that negotiations or actions via the legal system have begun or are about to begin. So, it's a good sign!
It's time to get serious. (pun intended)   8)

This is why we can't have nice things.

Some interesting info someone posted about SXM.....maybe its BS but interesting none the less.

Liberty Media is the company that took over last January. They are really after a cable TV company and tried a hostile takeover of Time Warner. That flopped. So they bought a small cable franchise called Charter. They will be using SiriusXM for collateral loans or they will sell portions of SiriusXM to get money to buy other cables and be a big cable like Comcast. So they are not interested in radio. In a nutshell, they are selling Sirius for spare parts.

You all will never know how much I feel for you for what you are doing in trying to support me
but I am going to ask you to stop. This will only make matters worse.

Here is the bottom line, this is a job I took only because of my love of Radio, not for the money,
heck 75K is not ever going to make me rich and if Sirius does not want me they sure will not take
me because their Web Site is messed up, it will most likely just piss them off. That does not change
the love I fell for all of you for trying.

I still feel I was right in my decision to halt what I felt had no real way forward and would make the
same decision again today, I only took that decision after receiving a no to any further remedy.

Truly I do not understand why they would say no to me wanting a way to stream, then turn around and
replace me with Coast which is doing exactly what I wanted to do, maybe they we just pissed. Either way
thank you for what you are trying to to, I love you all,  but please stop.

The facts of the matter are that you made a deal w/ SiriusXM which you pimped out on six weeks later.  I've been listening to you since the mid-90s.  I live in Nevada, I could go downtown and shake Ross Mitchell's hand tomorrow morning if I wanted to.  I resubscribed to SiriusXM specifically on your account.  You pimped out and you had no regard for me.

You made your bed, now you need to lay in it.  No one in their right mind is going to broadcast you after this stunt.  I used to have a great deal of respect for you.  Alas it was sorely misplaced.

Thanks for ruing the show Jaz :)

On a more serious note, people here are jumping to too many conclusions. Who knows what is going on.

Maybe Art gave up?
Maybe Sirius said that they will negotiate, but first shut those guys up?
Maybe Sirius said come back and we will let you stream on your site for free, just like you wanted, and we are just harming Sirius (And really art)?
Maybe Art found Mel's hole?

Remember... IF Art gives us "updates" he is also giving the same updates to the other side.  If his lawyers are in contact with their lawyers, Art essentially has to keep "updates" to a minimum.

Overall I still think the 'Free Art Bell' campaign was a good thing.  Protests against large corporations are most successful when you take your money back through boycotting their product-- unsubscribing, in the case of SiriusXM.

Looking back, I'm not surprised the partnership between Art and SiriusXM didn't work out.  Art is clearly a maverick non-conformist, and one of the basic principals of corporate mentality is conformity.  Furthermore, those of you familiar with commercial radio will have heard the stories of hosts and deejays being fired willy-nilly, typically without warning.  This is the culture of employment in commercial radio.

The old days of independent mom and pop radio station ownership is long gone in this modern world of media consolidation.  Here is a quick look on who owns what in the media today
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentration_of_media_ownership

At the opposite end of this spectrum are the radio pirates--and just over the line into the legal realm is low power community radio. The history of low power radio is interesting--essentially a result of years of cat and mouse games between pirates and the FCC.  In the late 90s when these stations were granted licenses, it was presumed they would serve a very small local area and never interfere with commercial stations.  However, in the ensuing years many of these tiny "local" stations began to stream world-wide, giving new meaning to the word "community".  Most are run by unpaid volunteers who simply love and share a passion for the medium of radio.  Those of you here who are interested can look for a station near you and get invloved: Help produce, engineer, sweep the floor, colaborate, have your own show.  For more info on low power radio see www.prometheusradio.org

I'm late to the party here at bellgab, though I've been listening to Art since his Dreamland show.  Thank you all for your enlightenment and entertainment.  Like most of you I'll be standing by, all frequencies open, waiting for the return of Art Bell.

People are read WAAAAY too much into Art's message.

His lawyer has likely given him some very sound advice... CALL OFF THE HOUNDS.

If he is seen to be leading and/or supporting an army of attacks on Sirius, then they WOULD Have a counter-suit and the very simple lawsuit to get him out of the non-compete becomes MUCH more complex.

It is safe to say he wants out of the non-compete and thousands of people have made their voices heard to Sirius.

Now it is time to let the lawyers do their thing.
+1
I agree.

I just saved a ton of money on my car insurance....

Maybe we're all being selfish. We all love the guy and want a piece of him. I think this is all a horrible ordeal for him at his age. He came back and gave us six awesome weeks of incredible nostalgia. Let it go. There are more things in his life that should be more important than streaming..or bellgab...or Dave..or jaz..etc..

Will our demands cause him loss or pain?
From this moment on i expect and want nothing from him.
He gave too much. I want my memory of art to be a fond one.

Or maybe this was all a little over the top.  The Free Art thing had potential, but to be honest, all this venom is making him toxic to companies, not attractive.  What company would want to put their brand at risk through a collaboration with Art, knowing it could blow up in their faces by having a fan base turn on them.  The way to help him is to be polite and respectful,  maybe with a petition by his fans.
