Yes, that is correct, I said I would honor the NC because I will, I did not say I would not see about
challenging it from a Legal point of view, that is a proper way to proceed. I will not just ignore the NC
and go on with streaming but I will see what can be done to have it removed. If it is we will stream
just as we said.

Oh, well that's a different situation entirely isn't it?  I hope you find the best lawyer in the business! :)

dortmunder

Did anyone happen to catch his answer to my question? I got cut off.

Morgus

Thanks to williedee for the  alternative live stream - I'm hearing Art Bell right now.
Missed the beginning of the show, hope for an archive mp3 later on.
Art just commented on the pirate Art Bell streams...

dan7800

Wow got through. Great to converse with the great Art.

Morgus

Art Bell is now commenting on Noory.
He says at the beginning he thought George was "a nice guy" but has no totally changed that opinion of him a couple months ago...

What was your question, Dortmunder?  I heard you, but forget what you asked.  I MIGHT remember the answer if you refresh my memory.

You were cut off!?!?!?  Sheesh.  Knock it off, guys!

Art is so right, Sirius will be done in about three years, podcasting is the new business model.

Well folks .... it appears this site has run it's course. I'm done. Too bad all the small minded members here have driven Art off the air. Yeah ... in no small part you numbskulls added to the demise of the thing you loved .... DM. Have a nice life. I'll see you in Hell. Peace    Afixer

If anyone here manages to call in right now live to Art Bell, give him "Mel's Holes" instead of "Roswells"
since its like Sirius threw his Dark Matter show down the deep hole. :D

Suzeca

I know you guys are nervous but please stop cutting art off and interrupting

It sure is nice to hear him talk about it.

Art told a caller he is not interested in returning to regular terrestrial radio (like Noory's c2cam) - he only wants the future, such as streaming internet.
He said he made a mistake trying to deal again with a big company though.

I think the one thing Art didn't get was that streaming was not important to XM/Sirius. Their goal was to sell satellite radio subscriptions. Streaming was just an afterthought, not a corporate priority. If Art had gone on the air and acknowledged the problem and suggested that maybe if you have trouble streaming you should invest in a satellite tabletop radio or one with a home kit, he might have been less of a hero to the listeners but he might still have a show and his bosses at XM/Sirius would have loved him.

Art mentioned in one post that Paul was fired while trying to fix the streaming. Maybe Sirius was trying to send Art a message. The message was, your job is to do the show, not fix the streaming. We have other people hired by the company to do that. You are going over your boundaries. I understand his concerns about streaming problems affecting the callers and content of the show but corporate toes are being stepped on here.

Then Art suggests that they provide streaming for free until the issue is solved. Then he wants a new agreement where he streams his show for free on his own site. Looking at that from an executive's point of view, Art wants to give the show away for free to people who otherwise would have to buy a satellite radio and a subscription to hear it. The whole reason XM/Sirius hired Art was to sell satellite radio subscriptions. Why buy satellite radio when Art is giving away the show for free on his website. Kind of like writing a novel and wanting Barnes and Noble to sell the hardback version while you, as an author stand a block away from the store giving away paperback versions of the same damned book for free. You think Barnes and Noble wants to do that deal? XM/Sirius doesn't want that situation either. Coast to Coast charges a membership fee for streaming. They aren't giving it away so it's not really a way of getting around the price of a subscription. It's just another way to subscribe.

That's my take on it after a lifetime of working for evil corporations. Your mileage may vary. Art may not be an expert in playing corporate politics, but he is still one of the few guys out there worth listening to in a world full of media crap. If he wants to create a new streaming based show after all legal issues are dealt with, I'm sure that it will be more than successful.

I look forward to it.

...
Then- Along come George Noory (who I thought was okay at first) who ruined the fucking show to the point where it’s a New Age, Infomercial for crackpots who are not even SCARY nor entertaining (for the most part…) C2C went from something which felt “cutting edge” and a bit “underground” to something my Grandma would listen to after watching Donahue or some shit.

-Show is BAD…And getting worse.
...

So true .... and it reminds me of another experience.  Years ago, in my town, there was this awesome little bar.  It had been there since like the 40's, and it had this great ambiance.  The old school jukebox still had music from that era, along with other timeless jazz classics and such.  It was dimly lit, quiet, cozy, with a little dark wood half moon bar and a handful of barstools, with some fading smoky pastoral murals on the walls.  It had survived many social changes around it, and resisted the move towards ridiculous drinks and loud dance music, bright lights, and sports on several big screen tv's.

Then one evening, as I passed by, I noticed the lights were on, and the door was wide open - an unprecedented situation.  When I walked in, I found out that the owner/bartender, whose father had started it years ago, had finally passed on, and some relative of his had taken over.  In one day, the magic was gone.  Lights were on full blast, a tv had been brought in playing a baseball game, new chairs and such were brought in.  It was over, and nothing was bringing it back.

So for me, when it comes to Noory's c2c, it's not that I even dislike the guy as much as many here do, it's that I lament what's been lost.  (Hopefully not forever.)

Put down the crack pipe.
Don't let the door hit you where the lord split you. :P

I'm sitting here half expecting the next call to be "Hi! This is George Noory! Art, how are youuuuuuuuuu?"

coaster

Damn it,  guess I missed it.

Art's concluding live statement tonight is that he doesn't feel Sirius' non-compete deal should continue as long as he doesn't stream his own show at the same time as c2cam's live stream. He would even pay for all the Sirius equipment they installed at his home.

I got through with my question about George Knapp, and #freeartbell. So glad to hear Art live and have the chance to interact with him. Guys, great job.

tertiaryimam

Ok, so, are we going to organize a campaign to put pressure on Sirius to let art out of his non-compete?

Lol! Thanks, Maren! I told him what George posted yetserday that if Art hadn't quit they could go back-to-back on channel 104. I asked him to respond to that. And I had to pay homage to Falkie's snoopy phone.

That was a  good call.
Interesting to hear Art's comments about George Knapp - he realized Knapp was in a strange position as a regular weekend c2cam host, but Art still considers him a good friend and broadcaster.

Jackstar

That was great! Thank you MV, and of course thanks to Art, and... bon chance!

Morgus

This site is crawling and slow right now - must be a huge load of people reading and listening to the gabcast for Art Bell!

Whoa -- while I'm streaming the show, my reload/refresh is s-l-o-w -- like dialup!  I DIDN'T hear the response, Dortmunder -- I'm sorry.  For the first time since DM went off the air, I actually fired up my bluetooth speaker and it was at that exact moment I walked out of the room to get it.  I'm guessing there will be an MP3 shortly?

YOU sounded great, though!

As did everybody!  What a rush!

Another reason Art Bell himself HAS to know he is not being truthful (or at least 'spinning' this...)

Look, heres what Sirius could easily surmise on their own. How many of YOU have admitted here (and elsewhere....) to canceling because Art quit (regardless of the fact you blame Sirius- The admitted fact is that Art quit regardless OF the reason...)

Every one of you who told Sirius that you cancelled your sub based on Art is money they see as a loss due to Art breaching his contractual agreement. Money they would have had (not to mention additional Ad revenue) had Art not quit. NOW, Sirius (after building a studio, promoting Art and wasting time now dealing with cancelled subs and additional expense/time wasted) is going to let Art make anything off of Ad revenue by changing the medium of his broadcasting? Art cannot claim 'hardship' (I am sure) and Sirius is not going to allow all the cancellations to 'follow Art" somewhere else after costing them time and money.

I know Art knows this- He could have quit within 30 days with no enforceable NC...He decided 2 weeks later to quit.

Believe what you will here...But in the end there is no way Sirius is giving up on the NC and NO LEGAL recourse. Art is bullshitting.

Watch.....

I totally went into panic. All I could think of a question was george knapp. Micheal went into a tizy and art didn't get to answer :(.
