20130930 - Michael Heiser - UFOlogy

The General

Man, I just have no idea what show you guys all listened to last night but I really enjoyed this guest.  Yes, he's a Christian theologian and Bible scholar, but he's a serious scientist, a famous UFOlogist, and he used science to debunk the Majestic Documents and the Ancient Aliens theories.  It was fascinating.  Art was asking him hardball questions, too, like "Have you applied the same scrutiny to the Bible?"

Im finding his site more interesting than his appearance.  Especially this explanation of Sitchins favorite cylinder seal.

Pretty much agree with this. I do have to admit I was doing other things most of the time the show was live. So I was confused on a few points.

Art isn't going to hit a homerun every night. And as good a conversationalist as he is, he isn't always going to get to the point some may want. I can only imagine how poorly noory's interview, conversation, gibberish went.

I agree with The General - during the live show I wasn't real impressed as I was watching the MLB Tie-breaker game and reading and posting here - but listened overnight on-demand and enjoyed it a LOT more. He was interesting and the mouth breathing was only distracting if I focused on it. He presented some good research and backed it up fairly well. Didn't agree with everything he said -- but have yet to find one of Art's guests that I do... of course.

I've been studying UFOology since I was a child.
I've never heard of this guy and I try to keep up, though lately everything has been spinning around dealing with the purchase and aftermath of getting our car.
I guess its time to go hit the paranormal bookshelves in the bookstores and websites and see what's out there again.
I have about 250 paranormal, occult, ghost, conspiracy and UFO books on my shelves and practically most of the books of a lot of Art's guests. I have books going back to the days of Gray Barker and Adamski, though I used to have around a 1,000 before I  lost my storage in 2001.
Its a bitch starting over because so many older books that were cheap 40-50 years ago now cost a fortune at some booksellers, which is why I buy on Ebay and Amazon a lot, though I do support local bookstores because they're a cultural treasure that everyone should frequent and buy from to keep them from dying off.
Unlike some, I don't like reading Ebooks, I like to have the book in my hand to read and re-read.
I re-read The Quickening last night before I went to sleep ( it helps being a natural speed reader ) and noticed the things Art talked about back then, like companies mass producing pagers.
When was the last time you saw anyone with a pager, except maybe a doctor in a hospital ?
It would be a candidate for an update book as well as the Coming Global Superstorm and The Source and TAOT.
Art, Whitley and Steiger could have a chapter of what we got right and what we missed or got wrong.
Art ?

He was very well spoken and knew his material well, and communicated it very well. I thought there was a huge disconnect between his historical knowledge and his religious beliefs though.  Once I put the effort into actually listening to the whole discourse, I thought it was a good show.

I also agree.  I had low expectations, but Heiser has seroius academic credentials and his discourse was fluid.  The man is articulate and interesting.  It is a task of biblical proportions (no pun intended) to take on Sitchin and Friedman in one sitting.  I thought Art managed the interview well.  Art is smoother than I remember and does not interrupt as much (with off topic personal anecodotes/asides).  I listened again today, and I liked it even more.

I think it was his verbal demeanor that failed to allow a lot of us to connect as listeners.

I can't say that he was full of it or that there was anything at all invalid about his point of view, but he still does not come off as authoritative on his chosen subject matter. He sounds more like someone whispering their opinions to you so as not to let anyone else hear them say it.

I really enjoyed what I heard of the show last night, especially the info on the Majestic documents.

Nice convenient links to what he discussed here: http://www.readthefacade.com/quicklinks.html

I was just about to post something along this line.
You don't get Bill Nye the Science Guy "making learning fun" in deep academia.  Heiser has the disciplined temperament it takes to learn how to do stuff like read ancient Sumatran.  His perspective was interesting.

Heiser's double standard is irritating. I'm glad Art point blank asked him if he has evidence to support his belief in the bible.

Other than that, I liked the interview even if I didn't agree with a lot of it. I don't understand the resistance to an evidence based worldview. Heiser and Alper both advocate it explicitly and described their methods well, even if you hate them as guests you have to at least agree on that. I'm not sure why the general point of view seems to be to sneer at them. Arguments about any of this stuff without evidence one way or the other is (or should be) a non-starter and purely in the realm of speculation.

I was so happy to see how many of u thought Mike the Breather suckkked!

It's so funny how different people are from one another. If I ever hear anybody breathing like that again I'm immediately worming Art and turning off the show!  I could barely stand it.  Of course I did not catch the fart, does anybody have the time that that happened?  I'm sure it was Mike the Breather sucking in so much air and letting it out the other end.  What an ass wipe.

Great question.  That's what I would like to know and when I hear it I'll not only confirm it's a fart but also, who laid it.  My money is on the Breather!  Can't wait for tonight. I'm jonesin' between the long wk end and the breather!

I didnt like him , i thought he was dull

i'm listening now and it's kind of ho hum. maybe this is why people like listening to loons like rch and dames.  they're complete bullshit but they're fun to listen to

Max_TO

I enjoyed the show but was hoping for more . Art has done some classic shows with Mike in the past and this time around Art didn't seem able to get away from the Alien question .

Not sure why but Art seemed uncomfortable right from the on set of the interview.

There is a lot to Mike and he is a fascinating guest , to bad we didn't get the show that both Art and Mike were capable of delivering

ieboku

Crackpots who believe Nibiru with no evidence criticizing someone committed to the scientific method. Hard to listen to. Ufology is just as much a religion as Christianity. Neither has been proven. Both require belief not rooted in facts.

I just re listened to this show, because there's no damn new Art Bell shows, which I hope changes in July, gdamnit!

American Negro calls in at 1:54:58,
and asks why the bible-writers were such racists and excluded all mention of blacks in the book.

Michael Heiser proofs to be a total liar and deceiver when he answers.
Instead of telling the truth like "hey moron, the book was written in the Near East, Mediterranean Area and not in somewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa. There weren't many Negroes present.",
Heiser spins the whole thing into some bullshit "I agree with you, there's so many racist bible interpretations."
He even lies by saying "there's more blacks in the bible than white Europeans."
I guess he conveniently forgot that most of the New Testament covers the time period when the Romans had conquered Egypt and Palestine, and the descendants of Alexander the Great's entourage had had an entire dynasty of Pharaohs. And of course, everybody knows Pontius Pilatus.

I don't dislike Heiser at all, but in this case he clearly took a political correct cop out.
I noticed the same trend in a lot of his answers - he's like a politician, never giving a straight answer, always starts telling parables and allegories and then trying to conclude something from them that is usually just a bad excuse for answering the question honestly.
I'm glad he did such a good debunking of the Zacharia Sitchin bullshit, especially since Sitchin was always so arrogant to say "read my books, it's all in the books", and never gave any credible sources (specific sumerian tablets) for his claims .

Chaim

actually Heiser said literally "there's more African-American material in the bible than white European"
LOL wtf?

Depending on the Biblical period Europeans were either engaged in intertribal warfare or battling the Roman Legions. I'd say Heiser was right.

African Americans didn't even exist back then, but we can consider he used that term in order for the moron caller to understand him better.
So lets look at their ancestors instead. AA's are descendants of slaves who came from West Africa - nowhere near Egypt and Palestine, and they have zero link to Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea Area.
The only reason blacks are constantly talking about Egypt is because they can't deal with living in the western civilization but have not managed to create a decent "black" or "African" civilization in several thousand years while they were in Africa, and out of political correctness and not wanting to piss them off and start another race riot everybody let's this bullshit slip and let them claim Egypt as their supposed heritage.

There's a reason they're called Sub-Saharan Africans. The whole land around the Mediterranean sea was always the domain of Caucasoid peoples. Because it is easily reachable by land and sea (Negroes never managed to build a seaworthy boat), and the Sahara desert is a natural border to "Black Africa" that most Blacks never managed to cross. I don't think their natural intellect allows them to even consider a journey farther than 10 miles from their water hole. That's the whole truth of the matter.

This is what a black civilization truly looks like:

Feeling a bit racist, are you?  Unfortunately, I clicked on the link you supplied.  As horrific as it is, it proves nothing.  We've all watched what ISIS has been up to. I don't believe they're black.  Beheadings, burning a Jordanian pilot alive.  Torturing, raping and killing children.  Al-Qaeda flew airliners full of men, women and children into buildings, killing thousands.  European colonists in Salem, Mass burned "witches" at the stake.  The Catholic Church has a long history of torture, imprisonment and burning people at the stake.  The British tortured people in the Tower of London.  The human race is badly flawed.  Evil comes in all ethnicities.

nope, I'm not racist at all. Are you feeling a bit antisemitic? (same bullshit allegation obviously)
The video simply shows a "black" civilization without white men's interference. The claim by Heiser "more blacks in the bible than whites" is total bullshit. Actually Heiser is being the racist here by even using that term "whites". The people in that area (and the Bible) were Caucasoids/Caucasians not Negroids.
The whole point was to show that it is not some kind of racists conspiracy that that "Blacks are excluded from the bible" as he said.

I didn't hear the interview and don't know anything about Michael Heiser.  Let's consider the following quotes from YOU:

"I don't think their natural intellect allows them to even consider a journey farther than 10 miles from their water hole. That's the whole truth of the matter."

Are you telling me that's not racist?

Or this:

"This is what a black civilization truly looks like:

Tribalized rape, homosexuality, child abuse, debauchery, brutality."

That's not racist either?

As I mentioned, the video was horrific.  But so are ISIS (not blacks) beheading innocent people, torturing, raping and killing children, burying people alive.  Al-Qaeda (not blacks) flying airliners full of innocent men, women and children into buildings, killing thousands.  The Inquisition.  The Holocaust, carried out by the Nazis (white Europeans, not blacks).

The entire human race is flawed - but your focus is on blacks.  Why is that?

Yes, I'm telling you that's not racist.
What I wrote is based on science. The average IQ of blacks in Africa is 70. That would be considered borderline retarded by our standards. Negroes in Africa can't even think so far as to drill a well. We have to send in people from the US and Europe to do it for them.
It seems to me you have let yourself become indoctrinated by political correct speech. Science is not racist.

Of course our civilized world also does a lot of bad things, some you mentioned, but that's really a total strawman argument. We have a high culture over here - African Negroes left to their own devices have nothing but what the video shows you. I'm sure you appreciate the fact that your son (if you have one) won't get raped with a wooden penis-rod while the whole town is cheering on to that deed.

The videos are appalling, no doubt about it.   Appalling videos could be made of other groups as well.  ISIS, for example.  We don't need to make the videos, they do it themselves and share them with the world.  Religious cults who sexually abuse children.  The Chinese who murder female infants.  If time travel were possible, we would see "Native Americans" or "indigenous peoples" or whatever name is considered PC for these people who walked to America from Asia thousands of years ago, doing hideous things.  American and European pedophiles.  The list goes on and on.

Also, how do you know the average IQ of African blacks is 70?  Who measured the IQs of all those people?  And, if what you say is true, what about the average IQ of American blacks?  Their ancestors came from Africa so it naturally follows they would have low IQs as well.  If so, how do you account for the fact that most blacks or African Americans are hard-working middle class citizens?  How do you account for people like Barack Obama (political opinions are irrelevant to the discussion at hand), General Colin Powell, Neil Degrasse Tyson and millions of other highly intelligent, successful African Americans, including the trusted family doctor who took such good care of my family when my brother and I were growing up?

Chaim

just one scholar who dared to investigate the reality of the claim. obviously most scholars don't even dare to touch that subject because of fear of being called racists and facing the backlash.

You ask why Obama, others have higher IQ than 70? Obviously 70 is the ethnic average, but of course most African Americans are mixed with non-black people. Obama has a white mum, probably other white people in his ancestrly, so this raises the IQ of African Americans, although still not as high as the average IQ of ethnic white people who are not mixed with blacks.
