Forum Maintenance

MV/Liberace!

BellGab will undergo maintenance starting this evening.  We're moving the entire forum to a new server to accommodate the mountain of traffic during Art's show.  You will be unable to access the forum during this period.  Some of you will be locked out for only a short period of time, while others might be unable to access BellGab for up to 36 hours.  It depends how quickly your Internet Service Provider updates their DNS.

Use OpenDNS to avoid the wait.  A tutorial on how to use OpenDns with Windows7 can be found here.

Instructions for XP users are here.

I hope I'm not one of the unfortunate ones who can't access the site for 36 hours. You have got to love the high volume traffic though. Thats great.

Morgus

Yep, I've  used OpenDNS servers for years - I highly recommend them, far superior to the default ISP DNS servers.

if you're worried, you should just go ahead and change to openDNS now rather than wait to find out you're screwed.

Thanks for the heads up MV, and congrats for all the increased traffic. Where else would we go to discuss Art and detail in so many creative ways how and why Jorch sucks?

Is the server move complete?
I didn't notice any hiccups so far tonight while using Open DNS.

no, we're still on the hostgator server.  i believe that's going to change today.  you'll know it's in progress when you see the maintenance mode page.

jazmunda

Good luck with the move. Kinda gonna miss the old blue gator guy during the live broadcast. He should be the dark matter mascot as he's become a staple of the show for me. See you on the other side.

It's back up for me, but I can't add an avatar. Error message says: The attachments upload directory is not writable.

MV thanks for getting done with the Maintenance of the most awesome forum. This forum is my "drug" of choice. ;)

Heather Wade

I second that.  Thank you MV.

Will be able to donate after I move.
Everyone here is awesome, Mon can't come soon enough.

Fyi MV
the spell check button is not available when posting a reply.

Thanks, MV, although I, too, will miss Crash Gator.  ;)

Are we officially on the new server now?
Tomorrow night should be a good test to see if it passes muster for the Art Bell live show load...

On this new server, I've seemed to have lost my ability to acquire other member's SS numbers and credit card info. And my Skype camera over their showers. What's up with that? Help!  :'(

Excellent. The Skype shower cam seems to be working again. Our European members should be waking soon for my amusement.

LOL!
I would likely perform elective eye surgery with an ice pick after watching your skype feed.

Heather Wade

I've been saying it for years!  There is a camera above the shower!  I knew it!  :o

And a Bad Ronald in the walls. Never underestimate the Bad Ronald phenomenon.

I never do.  I watched it again a few months back.  It's still extremely creepy.  I read the book for the first time shortly before watching the movie, and it's surprising at how tame the movie is compared to the book.

Are you guys talking about the Jack Vance novel?

I think Bad Ronald could have been a really creepy "R" rated film, instead of a TV-Movie. I read the book after seing the film for the first time(WTBS 3:30am Good Friday April 1, 1988...but who's counting) and have the same feeling.

I detest remakes, but Bad Ronald may be the exception...in the right hands(not Rob Zombie's)

Juan

The move finally resolved for me this (Monday) morning.  Ugh, no bellgab for two days.

I don't trust Hollywood to do it justice.  Maybe it's just nostalgia on my part, but the way it was made in the '70s just seems to capture the spirit of the story perfectly.  Sure, some of the more graphic scenes were left out, but that was the beauty of made-for-TV-movies back then.  I got a good laugh imagining how Rob Zombie would redo it.  :D  I can see him giving Sid Haig the part of Ronald.  :o

Same here.  Been a weird entire week for me.  Couldn't log in for more than a few minutes. Had to try to catch up the next day at work(couldn't log in or comment, but could read)   :'(

But I've had a GREAT time listening to Art!  :)  Wow.  Just, wow.

Zombie is a smart, well versed aficionado of 70's horror. But my God, he cannot direct a film at all. Garish, artless kitsch. And yes, he must include Sid Haig! He and Tatantino are in a constant mad scramble to cast the surviving actors of AIP films of 1969-1977.
