Ok, so I've grabbed winamp pro and xiialive pro.  No stream for dark matter(s) is showing for either at this time, 0734hrs.  Is this a function of the stream being live when the show is on and only then or I messing something up again?

I can't believe how much I'm enjoying the 30-day cardless free trial Ravenna put me on to. Particualrly since I really was leaning toward not signing up with Sirius for various reasons. I still may not, but for right now I'm having a ball. For instance, right now I'm listening to a Bruce Springsteen concert from 1975. I'm having trouble getting a grip on the fact the Springsteen I'm listening to was 25 years old. His only albums were Greetings From Asbury Park and The Wild, The Innocent & the E Street Shuffle. Born To Run was still a few months away from release, as were the unprecedented covers of him on Time and Newsweek in the same week. So the Springsteen I'm listening to here is the road warrior who was known primarily in a strip of beach bars and Jersey roadhouses, and along with Southside Johnny Lyon and The Asbury Jukes, was breaking through in the Big Apple, and teetering in the cusp of a huge national explosion. It gives me goosebumps.

About those simultaneous covers, those of you under the age of 35 or so can't imagine the impact which TIME and Newsweek had back then. Print of course was the only thing there was for more than  a blip of a story on the networks' nightly news. All news more than the brief blips of network tv came either in newspapers or weekly news magazines or other periodicals, including U.S. News and World Report and William Buckley's National Review as well as the financial magazines such as Fortune, Money Business Week and Forbes were the leaders. Even primarily literary periodicals carried news too, such as The Atlantic, Harper's and The New Yorker. Newspapers ordinarily didn't carry in-depth news, although of course The New York Times and Wall Street Journal were obvious exceptions to that general rules. On top of that in the prior 18 months to this concert I'm currently listening to, The Washington Post had been central to the Watergate investigation and subsequent resignation of President Richard M. Nixon. So news mags and newspapers were the only game in town, and a huge deal. And of these TIME was the clear leader among the news magazines in both circulation and reputation, with Newsweek coming in second I would think. So for Springsteen, a rock musician, to be the cover of any news periodical, much less the prestigious TIME magazine, was huge. But on both TIME and Newsweek the same week - well, that was just imponderable, and beyond explanation other than that this Springsteen guy was a very big deal, and that Attention Must Be Paid.

All this to say that I'm carried back to that moment by this concert. Just, "Wow!".

I don't think anyone really cares what Scottydawg is saying, I think people probably don't like the way Scottydawg is saying it. That's a not so fine line, something I'm surprised you don't get. It's one thing to say, "Hey, this is wrong, it's stealing, you shouldn't do it. There's a lot of different options you can use to make this work legally, you don't need to do this." It's another thing to say it like an insulting prick.

And really, nice statement yourself about the abundance of lazy thinking with some posters here. What a sweepingly broad, general statement. That's such a general statement I'm got to take it to mean me as well. Onan, I like reading your intelligent, thoughtful posts, but go fuck yourself on this. You do not get to judge mine, or anyone else's thought process or motivation. I don't care what you do or who you are off the board. That statement and the attitude behind it makes you a holier than thou fuck.

Scottydawg, maybe be less editorial and take the actions of others less personally. You have a good point, but when you put it like that, it also makes you a holier than thou fuck.

Personally, I'm paying for Sirius. Will it be nice to have a backup stream if I'm not around a headset to listen to it? You bet, especially if it reruns constantly and I can listen any time. So, before either of you start making accusations or applying false labels to people, go fuck yourselves.

Thank you for that. Accurate and well-said.

HOT DAM!!!!
Can't believe AB is finally back.

I actually signed up for the SiriusXM internet account. I can't miss the first show. My problem is that I might fall asleep... Could happen. In the olden times we would put a blank tape in the deck and record the show to listen to later. If I set up the player on my computer is there software that can just record it for me in case I miss it? Any recommendations much appreciated. I have OSX and XP SP3.

Is Dark Matter going to be On Demand 100% sure?

Sorry if this has been covered already.

I think several people are going to record the shows. I am sure there will be a repository somewhere.

I just signed up for Sirius.
Free 30 day trial, internet only.

So far, not super impressed with the music channels.

K, I just figured out that you can customize channels to play more/less hits or variety, and you can shift the focus to early/late in the decades (50's 60's 70's), and you can set the tone within the decade for a personalized station (example 70's more soul/diso and less rock)..

This is great.  Hopefully it works well, I'm sick of pandora.

i knoooooow.  i'm glad someone finally said it.  i think their "music genome" project is just a catchy name for something that really isn't particularly revolutionary.  i hear the same crap again and again when i leave pandora and return, and their system plays a lot of crap for me that i can't even imagine ever liking.  i last listened to pandora over a year ago.

*Ahem* Is this thing on? I would to take this opportunity to apologize for the gushing off topicality of the Bruce Springsteen abomination, above. I lost track fo where I was, thinking I was on the "Random Stupid Stuff" thread (which would have been perfect for that silliness), but, alas, I was here.

When I figured it out, it was too late to correct my error and protect myself from (further) embarrassment. Forgive me. And MV, I'm more than happy for you to move it or even delete it, since it's really too stupid to live. Anyway, sorry all.

Well, I've been listening to the Sirius 'personalized' stations this morning, and so far it's been vastly superior to Pandora or terrestrial radio or my tired ipod selection.  This rocks.

All that and Art Bell.

DarkBroodings

I ponied up $25 for the six months promotion, then we'll see. But a free stream would be AWESOME! Cheers.

On recording it, if you still have a VCR with A/V in jacks on the front or back and have a stereo out cable to plug into you headphone or audio Out you can record the full 4 hours on VHS tape. The fun is finding the splitter cord that has RCA ends on the end you plug into your VCR. I think you might be able to find them at Walmart, just ask for a cable to plug into a portable DVD player so you can hook it up to a TV. Or if you are lucky enough to still have a Radio Shack near by check that out. You might have to ask one of the older guys working there as the young guys just want to sell you smartphones and radio controlled gadgets!
This is how Art told us how to do it in the old days of when C2C was good!

monoprice.com is a really great place to buy cables of all types.  best buy will sell an HDMI cable for $40, while monoprice sells it for about $3.  same cable.

actually, i'm still in morocco, but with my ass fountain and whatnot, i've been sort of limited to the house here.

i think i'll be able to venture out and breathe the fresh fiat exhaust tomorrow.  anyone who thinks the usa is a disproportionately polluting country has never traveled.  we're among the most environmentally conscious people in the world.  the thought enters my mind every time i come here.

this is where i part ways with people who think government should keep its nose out of everything.  certain things need to be regulated by government.  i'd say car emission standards are at the top of the list.  if you want to see what happens when government regulates nothing but the stuff that keeps it powerful, come to morocco.  trash everywhere, incomprehensibly dirty air, chaos driving a car, no car seat restrictions for babies (at least not enforced), corrupt police, the list goes on.

be thankful (mostly) for where you live.

Dang , I leave for a bit and all the hate happens :(

I am currently using streamripper on the stream, and will change the "now playing" to 2013-09-16 - Dark Matter with Art Bell - First Show - Michio Kaku when it starts so the file will have the correct name. I'd suggest others rip it just for fun :)

So, tune in, it should be a wild time :D

Thank you for the link!!! (Yours is probably the first of many to go up)

yep I've bought all my audio/video cables, adaptors, and other devices like a HDMI switcher and splitter from monoprice.com, they have the best prices and quality cables and merchandise.
Great return policy too, I had one defective device and they shipped me a new one and sent me a label to ship the bad unit back to them free - only took a couple days!
I highly recommend them!
