As expected, last night the pseudo-scientist announced that the jaunt to Egypt with Robin is cancelled. Just didn't raise enough by begging on Fuckbook.

The ~25 suck^Wfans who contributed ~$2000 are not thought to be eligible for refunds.

That's really unfortunate for the suckers who gave him money.  I guess they don't really have an action for suing him, but I wish they did.

maybe he's using it as a literary device to indicate sarcasm or to be dismissive... as in, "hrumph... yeah, sure, they call themselves 'new mexico'... hrumph hrumph."

But he lives there!  I was within a 50 mile radius of him over the weekend!

expat

Some woman called Irene Gardner has offered to fund half of Hoagland's Egyptian jaunt (i.e. $40K) if he can prove the Accutron nonsense is genuine by producing a baseline and a control for all the so-called experiments.

Wanna guess how RCH is spending his MemDay holiday? Faking up baselines?

astroguy

Yeah, we're talking about that on the SGU forum.  Some are thinking it's a clever way to "punk" him.

It is, but I don't think they want it to get any bigger. One of the required registration questions is: "What is the podcaster Jay's last name?" WTF ?

It's the forum for the "Skeptics' Guide to the Universe" podcast.  Generally if you're on the forum, they assume that you listen to the podcast.  Three of the five hosts are brothers with the last name "Novella."

Phew. I just checked the "upcoming shows" list and it DOES NOT CONTAIN "Science adviser Richard C. Hoagland checks in from Sandia Peak with another sensational science experiment, proving beyond doubt that torsion fields are stronger during a Venus transit. This could mean free energy to power the planet for ever."

Yes, folks, he's been reduced to staying in  his home state, having vowed first to go to the Giza plateau, then said the fallback was Coral Castle (again). No chance of a refund for the disciples who ponied up an aggregate $2,000 for the Giza jaunt. He turned down $40K because there were strings attached. Strings like "Let's see all your data, including baselines and controls."

Just saw your site, and it looks great. "Branch Hoaglandians" has me literally still laughing as I post this. Well done.

*edit* - Just read the "Irene" offer and results. Hoagland's responses were almost scary. That was a fairly subtle attempt he made at undermining "Irene's" relationship and insinuating himself into the supposed void. Yes, how dare anyone try to tell a strong, beautiful independent woman to whom she might give money? Heh. I had thought Hoagland was just a scientific fraud, but I see he's an accomplished and experienced financial con man as well. Not to mention something of a cultist as well. Well done, expat

Harmness

Irene rules.

expat and astroguy, I enjoy both of your blogs.

Irene's on the warpath again -- laying into Hoagland in his little corner of Facebookistan. She's got it right...

Frys Girl

Does Richard C. Hoagland have a degree in any subject? Did he ever take university physics courses? I'm serious. He doesn't seem like he could even tell you Newton's laws!

Rasputin

Does anyone have a link to the forum thread where Irene is punking RCH? I'd love to get a look at that!

I looked up RCH on Wikipedia and any claim of higher education was conspicuously absent

I'd like to see a response to the email sent to snoory detailing mr hoaxlands humbuggery but when I think about what he would say all I hear is the monotonous sound of a flatlined EKG

Rasputin: Due to FB's brain-dead "Timeline" layout, it isn't possible to provide a direct link. Here's the page:
http://www.facebook.com/RichardC.Hoagland

Find the "Recent posts by others" panel, expand it, and scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll,.....
Hurry hurry! He'll delete it as soon as he notices.

Hoagland has no education beyond high school.

Frys Girl

I remember Facebook banned Hoagland once and on his crazy web site, he was expressing his outrage. I think this was last year... Not surprised he came back to FB.

Morgus

Hoagland's favorite recent movie "John Carter of Mars" came out on DVD, Blu-ray/3D, and streaming rental sources this past week.
Expect Hoagland to appear again soon on c2c to tell more how the movie has lots of hidden secret information about Mars and try to get Noory to watch the movie. :D

"What the listeners don't know or may not realize is that this is basically a well-dressed documentary!"

Well, that's just one specific post. The general link is just http://dorkmission.blogspot.com

Glad the humor is appreciated. Hoagland & Bara really are dangerous, but there's no need to get all po-faced about it.

Grimace

Behold, the foundations of science and consciousness shall be ROCKED to their foundation when Sir Hoagland brandishes his sharpened blade of psuedoscience, the ACCUTRON hooked to his laptop!

"THE LINES!" he cries in a fit of passion, "LOOK AT THE LINES ON THE SCREEN!" To the Coral Castle, to Stonehenge, to Giza we shall march on! This will change EVERYTHING, people! Empty your coffers, turn over your assets and DONATE TO SIR HOAGLAND'S PAYPAL NOW!

Juan

What's the matter with this dorkmission guy and Sagan.  There's an eggplant that looks like Nixon. So, there. Don't they know there are no coincidences?

The cover of Bara's upcoming book looks like a a blind person just found out about ms paint. I even contacted him through facebook and told him i would redo it, free of charge if the book wasnt already in production. His reply was making the cover his default profile picture on facebook. he really showed me.. Thats what I get for tying to help.  I've actually done cover work for various books and cd's, mainly helping the little guys. Even art I've posted on c2c's site has seen requests for cover art. But instead of accepting the free help, he continues to be a moron. Whatever. All i can say is you can definitely judge a book by it's cover.

Don't offer to do things for these idiots! You're too good.
