Why couldn't Stern have quit and Art be signing on for five years? Damn, wrong reality!

This is the problem sometimes with the people in this forum they really dont care if Art stays or gos they have an attention deficit problem and want to be the centre of atention themselves.
Radio has just lost one of its greatest hosts and personalities maybe we should be more concerned about that.

Confusing, I know. You should read Art's posts from yesterday morning.

All anyone needs to do is read those posts, you'll see that as of yesterday he still didn't understand that we all thought he had retired.

That explains why he went on the air Friday acting as if he hadn't quit. Meanwhile, the entire weekend went by, time that could have been used to patch things up with the sponsors and affiliates.  ::)

What is because of the decisions they make, Alex?

Money talks and well they will know drama or not people will listen to Art live.
Short of Bell holding some kind of suicide pact contract, Rowland would have to be nuts to let the guy who turned his investment in DM into a smoldering crater use it to make nice with his hardcore fans unless he showed up with a bucket of get-whole cash.

In a way he is, he has been backing Art for what 25 years now?

Both Art and Keith have what has been called (in far different contexts) the Götterdämmerung* mentality, where your first instinct is to overturn the chess board.

I have it too -- I get it from my mom who, on their honeymoon, threw the checkerboard across the room after Dad won too many times.  Do that enough times professionally and that's why you can sit here and post all day hahaha.

I agree.  It's an all or nothing mind set, to some extent.  If Art really wants to broadcast, there are a number of other things he could have done rather than just "well folks, that's it!"  Let everybody know he's taking some time off, with Heather or others filling-in, until things are sorted out.  It may end up being this way anyway, if DMDN doesn't collapse in the near term.  He could decide to move to a less remote location and pick-up the broadcast in a safer environ.  It looks like Airyn read him the riot act and Art quickly reacted by pulling the plug.  Just counting to ten can be a big plus most of the time.

Until this fiasco, I thought Bell was a paying client of Rowland, who provided webmaster and net services for his shows.

As per usual, he jumped right on FB and told everyone, likely w/out even giving Keith much of a heads up.. certainly before considering everything that would or could happen to damage DM or MITD, and now even his name.  :-\

I haven't seen or read anything that would suggest that Rowland isnt backing Art anymore?

I wouldn't call it "all or nothing", I'd call it amateurish and immature.  There are 5-cent lemonade stands with better business management than Bell's productions. I can't think of any non-addict media figure whose career path is such a debris field.

I remember listening to DM when "we're all in" was proclaimed, with an apparent resounding thud with Sirius, followed shortly by no show.  What the???  Damn, Howard Stern is STILL trucking along with Sirius, making the big bucks, but NOOOOO, not for Dark Matter.  Streaming issues, you know.

Yeah, I don't get that.  I didn't get to hear the show then because I didn't have Sirius at the time, and wasn't going to pay for it only to listen to Art, but how is it that the show was having streaming issues? He was doing it from his house, right? So unless his equipment was bad, or somebody was screwing with it like what was supposedly happening earlier with MITD, how could that happen?  Surely Sirius has to provide a certain standard of .. i dunno..  service?

That just means the radio stations rather play Art as per the contract, you would assume if Keith wasn't backing Art he would have canned Heathers show completely.

Sirius isn't perfect, to this day.  What the hell is.  I get occasional drops when the signal is blocked by an obstruction when I'm listening in my car, for example.  It's good enough for me and millions of others, including Mr. Money Bags Stern.  Sorry.  Not good enough for DM.  I'd still be listening to DM to this day, if it was on the air.  When screwy things like this happen, you'd be crazy not to wonder.

How bout this............

Art has a contest so that his minions can guess the next resurrection of their savior and rejoice the moment with lame banter as the court jester returns, again.

First prize is two tickets to Noory's next stage show. Second prize is four tickets.

Assuming DMDN can hang on for longer than 30 days, has Heather said she would continue on beyond 30 days?  It's probably irrelevant, anyway.  I'm of the opinion if Art doesn't work something out within the next month where he's back, at least on some basis, it's curtains for MITD, anyway.

Hehehe.  Third prize is a dinner date with Jorch and Tommy.  All the turkey sandwiches you can wrestle away from the dynamic duo.

onan

What is the motivation and payoff in not wanting Art to continue?

There's no pay-off, IMO. Nobody benefits, except maybe Snoory.
