Yes indeed, adding KABC to his station lineup is a big win. That will cover all of the L.A. basin listening audience.

I heard Art mention that he will be adding stations in Phoenix as well as Seattle. Two mega markets.

One station that would be a crown jewel to acquire is KKOB in Albuquerque.  It no longer broadcasts Coast to Coast AM, which has been moved to an obscured less powerful station.  KKOB's signal is 50,000 watts broadcasting from a mountain with an elevation of around 10,500 feet. Its signal is what radio people call a "blow torch", meaning you can pick its signal in a larger area than normal radio stations.
Sounds like that would be a very sexy win.  Wonder which station, large or small will be or has been the tipping point for the Titanic ship CoastisToast?

KABC's posted schedule for Midnight in the Desert starting next week appears to be one hour delayed, listed as 10pm-1AM PT.
So listeners couldn't listen and engage in calling in real time unfortunately.
KABC probably wants the show to start at the same time as Noory's c2c to compete directly with him at the start of the show?

I can definitely see that battle shaping up. And I can appreciate the strategy.  The hour delay is unfortunate for real time interaction, but dammit man! this is war!

He already has his escape plan and it is to the second conference room at the whatever-hotel, called in the commercial "former Red Lion, right off the interstate, exit 23" for the Consciousness/UFO/Survival Expo. And likely some 900#, or whatever is the internet/skype equivalent soon.

Exit 23?  Is that Jersey?

lol pretty much..and taking revenue from all the infomercials he puts on the air..that man will continue to ruin that show for years and laughing to the bank unless his bosses decide to re-brand or try and do something to pick up the ratings

i noted he has LMH not on her normal last Thursday of the month this month but on Wed..and his infomercial with Dr Joel Fraud on Thursday...might be nothing but interesting i thought

At the time I wrote that, (just after MichaelFromVA's comment, the previous 17 consecutive posts in the Art Bell thread carried the title "Re: Art's Big Affiliate News" rather than the usual " Re: Art Bell" posting titles. And I thought that _that_ might be what Michael was commenting on -- messages and thread titles "leaking" from some other conversation, perhaps some "Politics" or other topical thread elsewhere on Bellgab. He may have been refering soley to the content of recent posts and hadn't even notice the thread tittle switch. You can still, in any event, see and verify those 17 consecutive miss-titled posts if you go back a few pages. And Jackstar did in fact often pull that kind of crap, almost nighty.

Anyhow, I hope that helps clear things up Commander?
[I Enjoy your posts here BTW.]

If Art gets any large San Francisco (Bay Area) station that should lock up the entire Pacific or US West coast I believe. The Great Bellian Wall! (I'm praying cause TuneIn sucks too often.) The two local area stations that have carried C2C in the past (or presently) here, are:

KSFO 560 AM
KKSF 910 AM (current Horhay Norhay spreaders)

So, some troops and attention are needed to plug this gap, please.

I looked at KSFO when I was blitzing the west coast. It's an I Hate radio station. So no go

Now I see, you bugger!   :D
Somehow I've never seen that option at the top of the message window. I'm usually hen-pecking with a stylus on my cell phone and it's off-screen. In any event,  I normally wouldn't dare alter thread titles (in Art's living room in particular) unless for very good reason and then always adding the trailing --> (was Re: _xyz_) for easy reverting, general courtesy, and protocol following. I forgot this is Bellgab -- land of the Vaguely Lawfull !  Anyhow, ya got me, but I caught on, and leave smiling.

======================================

Now, THE REST OF YOU; (please) manually REVERT THE THREAD (or message) TITLE _back_ to  -->  Re: Art Bell

[I just changed it to  "Re: Paladin teasing Meister (was Re: Art Bell)"  for purposes of demonstration -- look up and you'll see.]
AND please all, adopt the old-school standard protocol of appending (was Re: Art Bell) any time you DO modify this thread title. K? And apply the same principle to whatever other thread title you modify. Thanks.

I haven't looked in that neck of the woods.  Are those the two biggies?  The only two?  What about the university/college radios?  Back when I was in college radio, we could use excerpts and the like, but IIRC, had to document absolutely everything that was broadcast.
Maybe things have changed and they can start broadcasting ARTs show?

Also, sometime ago, I came across micro transmitters on some Patriot website, for broadcasting LP FM, I believe.  Setups were affordable as I recall.  Your garage, den, shitter became the broadcast station.  I will have to look into that.

KSFO is huge, but KKSF is only average (I'm fairly certain).  The big college station here, (in the city) KUSF got sold/bought a couple years ago.  The greater Bay Area is quite large and includes large citys like San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, Berkeley, etc. And I'm not familiar enough with all possible stations therein, nor their wattages. Pirate stations are usually too low power around here, but they do exist.

KGO is the other big reach AM Talk station here, KCBS is big but is News Only (no talk).

And, alas, KGO is _also_ an ihurtradio affiliate !

Meister_000

So, this sucks (finding a station in San Francisco that _could_ carry Art's show). Will someone please explain briefly again what the iHeartRadio roadblock is vis-à-vis Art's show?  Is it a matter of  Keith's Dark Matter network wanting exclusive rights to _Streaming_ the show, or, that all iHeartRadio affiliates are somehow contractually "owned" by iHeart in such a manner which precludes Art's offering? And what is that "manner", what is it about Art's setup and arrangement and terms that nessesarily and terminally conflicts with all existing iHeart carried stations?
Thanks

This is gonna be a great week.

Correction;

KSFO is only 5000 watts
KKSF is 5000 night-time, 20,000 by day

My perception of KSFO being "a giant" is because of the big name Talk Stars they carry, and because locally,  i.e. in SF only, they are "big" in the Talk market, but as I now see their actual reach could not be very large given their low wattage.

Art's Pacific "day-time", (with no 1 hr delay as in LA) should ? fall within KKSF's 20,000 watt "day-time" period, being 9pm to Midnight Pacific -- unless broadcasters define their terms differently. However, they are moot due to iHeart.

Wikipedia has a list of all 50,000 watt stations in the country and 6 of them are in the four city greater SF Bay Area I mentioned earlier. Only one of those, KGO (ABC affiliate, and 24 hr talk) would have any potential for being in the running _IF_ it were not in the iHeart stable (but it is).

It's actually sad to see how/where the other 5 local 50,000 watt stations are being used now -- Christian, Mexican(Spanish)-Sports, and, East Indian, eat-up 3 of them, for example.

I'd be interested in this, too.
I know in the NY area it seems as though middle of the road hosts have been cleared out for conservatives even if they have fewer brain cells and are way less creative.   Good and interesting people have been done away with, only because they are unbiased.  If you look at stations around the country, there used to be room for local talent, but now it's actually hard to find a station that does not carry Rush, Sean, Levine, Savage and Beck.  Maybe most of these guys can be trusting with the day's talking points.  Dave would seem to be a better fit into their team of  mindless transmitters of disinformation.  He doesn't seem to care what schlock he airs as long as it's making him a buck.

henge0stone

I counted 42 stations on artbell.com. That pretty good considering the show has been on for only a few months.

I think these are two different matters. Your're talking about the battle for declining AM Radio income, revenue, advertizing dollars, market share (head counts) dwindling listenership, ratings, and the strategies and methods being employed to get the biggest slice of the pie that you can under the circumstances -- intergrity be damed.

IHeart seems to have no standards per say, no interest in the content per say, they accept anything and any format, from Talk to Music (of all kinds),News, Sports, Religious, Comedy, its all good to them. They just provide redistribution services over the internet for any all comers.

The thing with Art and iHeart must be the competition and clash in that internet streaming redistribution funtion. Art is trying to be an independent distributor and content provider (on top of being an independant broadcaster). Seems to me the problem has to be with Keith's DarkMatter Network, and a death-grip, restraints and limitations that's imposing on Art. But I'm looking for definitive confirmation, or better, the facts, whatever they are.

Or could it be that Premier or Clear Channel or some other large Network actually own iHeart now?
And here again we see that if Keith wants to pretend that he is a "Network" then he is thus placing himself into competition with other (real and actual and powerfull) proper "Networks".

So our running tally of role-playing is:
Independant Broadcaster
Independant Distributor
Independant Network

That's a lot of hats to swallow -- or something.

Art should have an announcement about calling in when listening in on the delayed stations. A caller from kxl Portland did call in the other night and that caller mentioned his question might not be relevant due to the delay. However, it was a good question.

Or maybe Art should move to a 1am start.  I'm not even joking, either.  Hell, he should go straight up against Dave 1-5am.

He could, but I'm pretty sure that is the schedule that works best for him and his family...either way it's going to work out...heck C2C is delayed and chopped up at many stations across the country...I think it is pretty normal...

Agreed! KABC and the Halloween show! It iwll be exciting!

Yea, I think KABC is taking a direct shot at the compeition at KFI 640 AM, Snoory's flagship station. Read and you be the judge...

The undisputed Master of the Unexplained and King of Nighttime Radio, Art Bell returns to 790 KABC starting Monday night, from 10pm to 1am!

It is my understanding that I-Hurt radio is the new name for Clear Channel.  PremRat is the syndication division of I-Hurt Radio.

What would really be interesting is if one of the stations owned by I-Hurt radio picked up the independent MITD.  Is there anything stopping them from doing that?

I highly doubt that.  It would be like Coke dropping Sprite and replacing it with 7-Up.  However, 92.9 in Bloomington IL is an independent station that carries a lot of PremRat shows and they replaced C2C with MITD.

They will keep carrying it even if it only airs on their own corporate owned stations.

Too bad in Los Angeles, KABC AM is a weak power station compared to KFI AM.
I can pick up KFI 640 easily down in San Diego, hard to pick up the weaker KABC 790.

But starting in Dec, the powerful San Diego KFMB 760 AM will join Art's stations and its stronger there than Noory's station KOGO 600.  I have a hard time getting KOGO 600 clean in my garage, but KFMB 760 comes in loud and clear there!

They package their shows together. That's why I heart stations haven't ditched Noory. They do not want to lose Rush and the rest of the high rating shows.
