If I'm not mistaken, MV has banned Mr. Poop at least twice over the past two years.

It's true, new folks usually get at least one or two hearty welcomes before gettin' stomped on by some roaming virtual bigfoot or another. 

(But then they pick themselves up, realize for the most part people here try to be decent, being united by a shared enthusiasm for various topics, and end up appreciating the open nature of this lightly-moderated forum of free expression and the occasional belly-laugh.)

I suggest we stop mentioning that man in the Art Bell Thread. The sooner people just ingnore him, the better bellgab will be. If i was not getting an expensive surgery, I would foot the $1,000 bill to ban him, for his sake and Bellgab's.

I kind of wish there was a sub-forum, maybe called Boiling Pit of Sewage, where all particularly annoying threads like Falkie's could be banished to live out a kind of twilight existence away from the brighter lights of bellgab central.

I don't think that anybody believes it to be unmoderated... Just lightly moderated.  Hell, if I recall correctly, there is also an element of "moderation for hire."  For a mere $1000, MV has offered to ban me (or was that another member?)

I still think that part of the genius of this forum is the lack of post counts under the user names...

I kind of wish there was a sub-forum, maybe called Boiling Pit of Sewage, where all particularly annoying threads like Falkie's could be banished to live out a kind of twilight existence away from the brighter lights of bellgab central.

But the boiling pit of sewage exists under the heading of "politics".  I think the problem is that sewage is digestible and will eventually decompose.  That thread was a little to strong and even the boiling pits of sewage had trouble with it and eventually threw up all over the forum.  Most of it landed one category away in the "general discussion" heading.
