True- I tune in to hear Art - the music doesn't really matter to me, but it does seem to matter to Art.

I know what you mean, but still .... on the first DM show when he and Michio discussed gamma ray bursts, then he went to break with Don't Fear the Reaper .... that was pretty awesome, I got chills.  I can see why he cares about it.

Some of the posts here are sadder than the situation itself.  Georgie is king in the same way a mental patient is the president.

George must be 'pissing himself' with excitement ........ he's slain the dragon a second time.  Long live King George !

As I driving to work a few mornings back, I heard Gorch take quite a swipe at BellGab too. I was quite surprised!

We may say that it doesnt really matter. But it will. At some point we will long for the refrains of "Some Velvet Morning" or "Year of The Cat".

Art wants a quality show. Not something half assed. And if believes the music was part of the magic, who can fault that?  The man wants to do it his way or the highway.  If we know anything about Art, its that he will find a way.
So don't put yer shovels in the dirt just yet folks. Preacher aint here yet.

I refuse to hate on art bell

Ooops I posted in the wrong place.  Sorry MV.  Man I saw this post on FB and I literally screamed at my cubicle at work.  He's done this fucking thing before yanking the music off the archive shit that you pay for.  The free stream is just that.  But will say somehow ANTHONY FUCKING CUMIA gets away with LOADS of shit and he has arhives and fucking video.  Art just doesn't want to do it.  He was looking for a reason to bolt when he saw the 20k price tag.  Either take some anti depressants and do a line of coke and nut up or just tell us you really don't want to do it cause really you wouldn't be making any money from it.  I swear to god he's fucking with me.  I held this man in high regard for so many decades as a god among gods and he's folding like a damn chair right in front of our eyes.  So sad.

Sure, the bumper music was a part of the show.

It sure as hell wasn't the 'Oxygen' to any Art Bell broadcast. He is what made the show what it was, not Dancing Queen.

You take away the music from Star Wars, it just ain't the same. You take away the music from an Art Bell broadcast and you won't skip a beat.

Dave still uses some of Art's old music, does it make a rat's ass of any difference? Hell no!

Art wants a quality show.  For him, that means including his own selection of bumpers.  A beat, will, in fact, be skipped.

I think your other post was more descriptive, so I'm re-posting the pertinent part here:

SO Art is claiming he can't do the show now because he thinks it will cost too much to use bumper music in the FREE STREAM.  doesn't he realize that for the paid part he just yanks the music out and he doesn't have to pay and THAT'S IT!!!!

...  Art WHAT ARE  YOU THINKING???!!!!

saxgod

And again if Art sees this YOU HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE.  The free stream will be live and considered a live broadcast.  If you charge for the archive which we know you will then that means YANK THE BUMPER MUSIC OUT and just post a liner sheet and links to Youtube with the music you used so people can insert it IF THEY FUCKING WANT TOO.  The bumper music really didn't help me.  Just have it going on another channel and then have Rowland edit the show like he did WHEN YOU WERE ON COAST BACK IN THE 2000'S.  I paid for the fucking archive and this is EXACTLY what you did.  You yanked the bumper music.  So what the fuck is the big deal.  Can ANYONE tell me what the deal is, because it sounds like Art wanted to call quits again but need an excuse and he used the worst ever since he actually found a way around it when he was at coast.  make up something else like OH I need back surgery or OOOO I met another women in Asia somewhere.  don't use an excuse you solved over a decade ago.

Cynnie

I'm donating to the best Of art bell stream right now ..crap , I still have at least 30 years of clarity left ..hope this guy keeps supplying me with the good stuff

Designx

I always thought Art played crap bumper music except some of the instrumental stuff  - Noory plays the same old tired stuff. I certainally don't listen to the program for the music but I can see an opportunity to have unlicensed music for the bumpers and I'm sure listener contributions would be much better than Noory's.

Sad ..... a mental patient is your President.

Everyone, calm down and relax. Art will figure it out.

Question. Why can Whitley still play the lead intro on his website????

There may be hope through the Harry Fox Agency

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Fox_Agency

https://www.harryfox.com/find_out/rate_charts.html

and you can search through here to see if they have the rights to the songs he wants: http://www.songfile.com/

So as long as they're charging more than that per person/per show...

"Just fifteen cents uh day!"

I would contact them to see if this is feasible.

Well, I'm glad to know it isn't Art's fault.

It never is....              ::)

I'd take Art without the music, than no Art at all.

...but hey, that's just me.

Maybe that makes me a 'hater'?

Well looks like Art has quit this time before he even started now that's a new record LOL

That was a short roller coaster ride.
The ride died before we could even get in.
Stay tuned...

I get it - it's a matter of style. Music can set a mood. Maybe I've just gotten too pragmatic in my old age. Art has an opportunity to be a trend setter once again- he could do a show without bumper music or a new alternative. I have come to dislike many songs after listening to them on a constant rotation on a show that will remain nameless. As a listener, I don't view this as a show stopper- but it is up to Art.  :(

I can't believe no one involved in this did not think about this before.

Fly by night. Comes 2 mind.
I thought of it, and I've never done any sort of broadcasting.
Meh, easy come easy go.

This seems like the way to go.

Someone want to email this to Keith.

I had a hunch Art hadn't fully explored this, that's why I asked him here a few days ago if he was going to use his usual bumper music.

Art, I have looked into this in the past, and if you are absolutely dead set on an Internet show with commercial music, this would seem to be your only choice:

http://www.live365.com/pro/pricing.live

They take care of the royalties, and allow a stream from your website.  Last time I checked, though, it was North America only.

I admit that I kinda always liked the bumper music he chose, at least 95 percent of the time, but for him to let something like this stop him is pretty sad, sorry Art, I've stuck up for you through thick or thin, but I part ways with you on this one, sir.  If you really want to do the show, you will do the show, in spite of some puny minor niggling issue.  Honestly, sir, the world is at war, children are starving, civil rights are being trampled upon, there's a world of trouble out there and people with much much worst challenges making things work in spite of those huge problems.  Be a man.  Be a grown up.  Start running your operation like a business person and find ways and stop freaking out and aggrivating your fans.  Do this.  You.  CAN.  Be the bigger man.  Hire some pros to help you navigate this.  If *I* had it made like you do, with millions of fans who loved me and who'se very breaths counted on your heartbeat, you damned well know I'd sure as hell find a way to give the love back to MY fans.  That's REAL integrity.  Be a grown up.  Yes, I know you are one, but show it.  FDR never ever showed the pain and worry he suffered, he always put a brave face on things and got the country, NO, the WORLD, through the great depression.  You have some of his qualities, time to dig deeper and show us what you've really got, Art.  IF a man that can't walk could lead us to war and have us win it, someone with your abilities should be able to handle minor pissy little issues like this.  What is more important, ask yourself.

I bet a zillion dollars it's because they're planning to broadcast on YouTube, who are complete a-holes about music rights. Joe Rogan complains about it all the time.

^^Likely true.  Art shouldn't get mixed up with YT.  The pirates will repost his shows there anyway, so what's the point?  Why not just stream from his own website, apps like TuneIn.

I think Art's emotional post today was impulsive.  First of all, the regulations regarding the streaming of copyrighted music are still in flux, and subject to change at any time.  Besides, I didn't tune into Art's show to hear his bumper music, didn't listen to any of those songs outside of his show.  No ABBA in my music collection, lol.  Those of us who listened to Art's show regularly formed associations of certain songs to Art Bell.  We can simply make new neural connections to copyright-free songs, or music made specifically for Art's >>NEW<<show.

Nostalgic for old AB guests, music?  Listen to the archived replays.

There is lemonade in this lemon barrel somewhere. Two words "creative commons." Two more "crowd source." Two more "extensive network."
Art, with your connections, and extended network, there is no doubt you could have all-new music. With your network of listeners you could do what C.C. could have done with emerging artists. Sure, it's not the "fine wine" you elude to on facebook, but it could be even better. This is 2015, paradigm be damned... adapt. I bet the General would be glad to give you some (fine) guitar, and you do have some other pals in music.
:)
mf
Edit: like pyewacket said as well, while I typed this... embrace creative commons.

One more pair of words. "Buzz words" They always get problems solved, or at least sound cool on the surface.
