Occam's razor. Cluster of comets.

But for them to be clustered so tightly that they block up to 20% of the star's light at a time, I feel as though Occam needs to try a bit harder here ;D

they are building around a star, not a planet. the flickering is caused by moving large (100's of kilometers or larger ) panels (?) across the disk of the star as seen by us.

oooohhhhh.....like wood paneling in the rumpus room? How seventies!

Even if it's 'just' comets - that's still interesting as hell. Anything out there that we haven't seen before should be front page news for it's own sake, never mind if there's aliens riding em like sandworms. (but there are, tho)

Totally agree. Really, it could be anything....especially things we have not thought about at all. Why do we assume we have a firm grasp on all that is out there. We don't. Not even close, I suspect. It could be a nebula of some sort, or even water or a planet/star that is changing size....there are lots of things it could be. I just wish science would keep an open mind and let some of the magic of what reality is speak to them. I think we'd learn a whole lot more that way.

k...end of rant

:)

I think the point is to have lots of different people covering lots of different angles so we build up more complete images.

They are backtracking from some of the early reports but still interesting.

ART will be rocking the time slip tonight.
Berenstain bears here he comes.
Can't wait.
Hope King Henry makes the rounds, too. Minus his turkey leg.

Reality Shifting?

Here's the dumb part. This is probably the most important SETI target ever, and I read somewhere the earliest attempt at looking at it with a radio telescope will be in January. And only for a few hours.
Why not do it tomorrow?
I'm sure some rogue astronomers out there will lose their patience and     do some observing before then.

I thought this January was awesome.  I was expecting something more like January 2025

I got more of a "self-help" vibe from the write-up.

GravitySucks

At the beginning of last night's show, when Art was talking about Breaking News.

He said something like "at other networks, breaking news would be that one of their hosts had stubbed a toe or something"

Was that a subliminal acknowledgment of big Dick's faux pax and a pass phrase to let everyone know he wasn't going to discuss it?

I haven't listened to the archive, but that was my thoughts at the time.

"Art Bell and crew" is what stood out to me at the end...

More of a statement on the commonality of "breaking news."  Years ago breaking news meant the president is dead.  Now it's used for all sorts of nonsense.
