Dyson Sphere type stuff!

trostol

we found something..you cant quite call it alien structures yet..sounds like tricky Dick saying that lol

Art is really making a big deal out of this alien megastructures thing.. The way he said it was BREAKING NEWS almost made me believe it might actually be something or at-least made me want to believe it is something other than just a dip in brightness according to boring ass data.

I came across that article three days ago and was going to send it to dick. But reading deeper into the article, It was some type of 'wave' structure in the cloud, not actual physical structures. Am I wrong on this ?

MV has the thread open now

Very cool news regarding the mysterious structures seen around the star KIC 8462852 (as mentioned at the top of Art's show tonight). Still a little hesitant to think that they are actual alien structures (I think there is probably a more mundane answer like comets, etc), but I did find this cool artist's rendering of what a dyson sphere might look like. One is able to see how it would block out the light of a star in an irregular fashion from our vantage point:

I for one welcome our new 'star power harnessing' overlords.  ;D

I'm not happy that Art dumped out of Rocky's call about name dropping.  It was a funny call.  Greer is a notorious name dropper and it's something he should have been forced to address.  I love Art Bell as much as anyone but that was bad form.

Art should have just laughed and requested a serious question...

Just for the record I hit the dump button on the caller who was talking about name dropping because I thought I heard some bad word BUT I instructed Keith to leave it in for the archives because there were no bad words. Sorry about that.

The achieve is seemingly never edited. There are bad words,  last names, etc. I really could care less, I am just saying.

Also its mid-October It should be ghost, ghouls, devil , etc  time.

I ate a Volcano Quesadilla from Taco Bell earlier and have had the runs for the last hour. This fucking sucks.

Well, it seems you need a good woman to cook and clean for you.

Interesting indeed.  MITD is the strong lead in for the ailing CoastisToast.

This was on the front page of Foxnews.com about the "Alien Structures" in front of star KIC 8462852.

http://www.foxnews.com/science/2015/10/15/could-this-star-signal-that-alien-is-out-there.html?intcmp=hpbt4

Interesting article....but isn't it a rather large assumption that aliens would build mega-structures around their planets and that is why we see them flickering so oddly from a vast distance? I mean...did I miss something here?

b_dubb

The odd flicker could be caused by a lot of factors. Debris around the planet (like Saturn), multiple moons, other planets in the way, Death Star trying to blow up the Rebel base, etc.

Here's the dumb part. This is probably the most important SETI target ever, and I read somewhere the earliest attempt at looking at it with a radio telescope will be in January. And only for a few hours.
Why not do it tomorrow?
I'm sure some rogue astronomers out there will lose their patience and     do some observing before then.

they are building around a star, not a planet. the flickering is caused by moving large (100's of kilometers or larger ) panels (?) across the disk of the star as seen by us.

Occam's razor. Cluster of comets.
