Why did Art Bell just retire so suddenly?

When I saw this last night, my first take was this was trolling by a Noory loyalist, done in an attempt to revive despicable rumors (decisively proven false) from many years ago. Because there was most certainly nothing surprising or unexpected about Art's final retirement. As mentioned by martinjsxx, Art had attempted to quit several times before it finally took. Everyone knew when he came back for the last time in 2006 that we were living on borrowed time.

And so we were. Now, did Art get disgusted with Premiere and just chuck it in frustration? Who knows? Possibly, because Premiere has been known to be masters of chickenshit tactics...but that doesn't make Premiere any different from any other media conglomerate.

Art might have just decided like many a 60-something guy that life is too short to spend it working. And maybe he'd rather spend all his remaining time with his wife and daughter instead of several hundred thousand faceless strangers in the darkness.

Art is a weird fellow. His wife Ramona died suddenly a few years ago and then a few weeks later he married a 20 year old. I'd like to see Noory do a show investigating that.

Art isn't any weirder than someone who's bizarrely fixated on him marrying someone who wished to marry him, I assume with her families' consent.  Do you think he lost his love for Ramona because she's gone?  It almost tore him apart. I doubt that Art could be so cold and shallow, but I couldn't say the same thing about another host with the same confidence. It's Art Bell's business and life, not yours or mine. Get over it or seek out a psychiatrist for help.

People respond to grief differently.  A man in his 60s might reason out that it makes more sense to move on with his life quickly simply because he doesn't have as many years ahead of him.  You're right that applying standards to Art Bell when we know nothing about the circumstances of his life in this regard is silly.  Noory displays his incompetence every time he gets behind a microphone, so that makes him fair game for speculation about any number of things, but Art's personal life seemed to be mostly distinct from his professional experiences -- at least there was no indication it had any significant negative effect on his professionalism.  The fact that Art had a child so quickly suggests he was at least serious about the relationship on that level.

Noory may be a bit ditzy but that is his trademark. I think he's a lot smarter than most think, why else does he act like he's so far ahead of everyone. He doesn't have a wife either, that adds to my belief that he is self involved, and has a high self esteem.

Yes, Noory is self-involved, meaning to say: he is very much involved with his own ego.  Egotistical!  ::)

Does he have a high self-esteem?  Nah.  More like LOW self-esteem.

Knapp is a Noory ass-licker.  Any Noory ass-licker invariably smells like Noory's ass.  I don't have faith in Knapp's ability to carry C2C any much better than Noory does.  He's a member of the three stooges: Noory, Punnett and Knapp.

Knapp is the best right now, the way he starts of a show with the monologue and all. I don't mean his opening intro, its what he says after the intro that is nice to listen to, a true pro.

Knapp's also a HAM.  Like Noory.  The three stooges of C2C: Noory, Punnett and Knapp.

Noory sucks, but I think Bell was far below his normal self by the end. How many times did he have Pat Buchanan, and similar people on the air to tell us about the Mexican invasion? He was never critical of extreme measures to stop people from coming into the country, or from sending people out regardless of whether they had a family. All of a sudden he has a wife that needs to immigrate and he wants everybody to allow them to immigrate to the country, even though their family was together.

Bell was a huge hypocrite by the end of his run. He screamed and cheered in favor of the Iraq War, adopting every idiotic talking point. Later he acted like he was against the war, and like it was impossible to know how it would turn out. I remember one time during one of his last shows on a Saturday they had Somewhere in Time, and then Bell's show. S.I.T. had essentially 2 hours of Bell cheering for the Iraq War. When his live show came on there was about an hour and a half of him wondering what the point about the Iraq War was, and how we ever got into that position. He acted like he was against the war from the start, and the people in favor of it were the idiots.

He was still far better than Noory though.

my opinion of Noory has been really low for a long time. lately I've been doubting my memories of how good the show used to be. "maybe I'm exaggerating a little" I thought to myself. then I found this site and started listening to the art stream. I was wrong. the show used to be better than I remember it. the way art used to ask the exact questions I was pondering myself. its like we were on the same wavelength.  millions of us were.  Noory is a joke. I haven't been glued to my radio in years. I hope he retires soon.

Bizarrely fixated? This is an Art Bell forum right? If anyone's relatively young wife died suddenly and mysteriously and then they married a 21 year old a month or two later it would be odd. You seem like the one who needs help with an Art Bell fixation.

The case is closed.  It's time to close this thread.

The accused George Noory has been found GUILTY of killing the "Coast To Coast AM" radio show.  The court will now adjourn its session for sentencing at a later time, which shall not be later than December 21, 2012 when the Mayan calendar Tzolkin Long Count ends.

Mysteriously?  Ramona didn't "die mysteriously."  She died of an asthma attack.  I'm sure there would have been a coroner's inquest had there been any mystery to her death.

Art mourned Ramona in a way that had him nearly suicidal.  IIRC, a family member introduced him via mail to Airyn, and she helped pull him back from the brink.  It's not unusual for widowers, more than widows, to marry quickly on the heels of losing a spouse.  What I've seen in research indicates it is, in their minds, a testament to what they had with the spouses they've lost--they want to try to recreate the state of happiness with someone if possible.

I would never look down on someone trying to grab some happiness on this planet.  But that's just my opinion.

Okay.  You think Noory, Knapp, and Punnett are all cut from the same cloth (stooge) and the verdict is in.  We've got your point.

So why are you here?

IMO, this thread has a raison d'etre so long as Noory is at the mike.

I look forward to laughing at posters here laughing at him.

And on a separate note, I miss Valdez.

I believe you're correct.  Your recollection fits mine.

I recall Art Bell sharing his sentiments along those lines about the matter, in one or two show episodes.  I recall him saying that he had always thought he would predecease Ramona and he told her that.  So, it came as a huge shock and a truly devastating blow to him when she ended up leaving him instead after their years of happy marriage.  I remember Art saying that his life and happiness seemed to have just abruptly ended and vanished after Ramona's death.  He thought there'd be nothing more to his life then.  I recall Art later saying that he didn't think he'd have that second chance for happiness again until after he met his present wife and then had his child by her in a relatively short span of time.

I admired Art for the humanity he genuinely showed and shared on the air.  Thanks for your post.

I'm here for the same reason -- 'cause Noory's still blowing through the mike!

My post was trying to be humorous and colorful about the previous poster's conclusions.  I was really enjoying and rejoicing over the situation of reading a post that resonated so much with my own sentiments about Noory.  Notice the use of colors and the "tada" effect?   Did you read my last blurb about Noory's suspended sentencing?  I was trying to say that Noory's "suckiness" seems to be a foregone conclusion or judgment.  Question is: when does the judgment become effective insofar as taking his voice off the mike is concerned, as the provebial criminal finally being locked up in jail for good?

Anything wrong with some fun and humor here, too?

The George Noory tribute twitter... I find it hard to believe that anyone would be willing to pay tribute to such a horrible host, but then again it sucks just as much as he does. So it's kind of fitting.

Coast To Coast needs new blood, new life:  new hosts and faces that have a living, breathing vision of what C2C is about, of its investigative, journalistic, editorial, informational, instructive, definitive and visionary mission and purpose (not mere entertainers acting as hosts); and a NEW MIND -- an enlightenend one that understands postmodernity, at the least, one that can see the postmodern world of humanity at the close of the last century and well into (and beyond) the 21st century -- beyond the hype and vogue of 2012 and the human condition.

As of the moment, C2C is functioning as a relic of the 20th century.  The fear mongering and public manipulation, which was typical of the Cold War era and the terrorist era which succeeded it, are still around and kicking in the show.  Just listen to the ads alone.  So is the fundamentalism being expressed through the religious, social and cultural biases of the show hosts.  The show and its hosts may ride on the tailcoats of groundbreaking 21st century scientific and technological innovations and breakthroughs, but they have not grasped the significance of those innovations and their impact on humanity and the emerging enlightened world or social order (I'm not referring to the illuminati or NWO of conspiracy theorists.).  Look at the conservatism of the hosts who are frozen back in time with the 20th century mindset they grew up in.

whoa... we're talking about a late night radio show here... I'd settle for a host who doesn't have his head up his ass.

that's what george does for the entirety of every show anyway so it wouldn't be that strange

Publicly, Art made it known that he was retiring from the show to enjoy his then new-found old age fatherhood and to settle down quietly into the bliss and life of his second marriage.

However, and this is my ten cents worth behind the scenes, I feel that Art was pressured or manipulated into retiring by certain people or forces of power or influence (the Illuminati?) who wanted to eliminate Art from the C2C airwaves.  (Art was probably getting too testing for them and too controversial for their comfort with his investigative inroads over the C2C show.)  I take note of how Art began sharing and claiming over C2C that immigration officials were making life difficult for his foreign Filipino wife (and him correspondingly).  There was one particular show episode where Art had to publicly rant and rave over the airwaves regarding the ridiculous unfair treatment they were being given by the immigration office.  Not long after that event, Art phased out of the show.

If you believe in cause and effect, add the numbers; you'll get the result.  You won't need the Numbers Lady for that.

I don't agree that he was pressured into making the show more mainstream because C2C still broadcasts some hardcore programs every now and then. However, I think Art might not have agreed with the politics that have since been infused into C2C programming.

noory is pimping lear capital.  what a soulless piece of shit.  pimping bullshit investment information to people who are clueless about money.  if Coast was such a solid performing radio program they could sell advertising to REAL companies.  not these fly by night scams
