I'm more a "smuggling comms" in my foreskin type of Provo.

Showing their staying power...I had a book on the couch once, and my younger sister thought Gerry Adams was....Eric Clapton.

There was a time that I would have liked to suckle at her teet but ever since the pre chewing her sons food incident I think I will give it a miss.

Stupidity annoys me. Just had a heated conversation that left me one friend short. About gay rights evidently. A friend posted pictures they had took of a gay pride parade in Toronto on facebook. They were pictures of very old men, completely naked, with metal rings on their penises, holding signs that read "no underwear". I said it was vulgar for someone of any sexual orientation to do such a thing. I am now a bigot of every kind because I think an elderly man, walking down the street, with a metal cock ring is obscene.
I thought gay rights were about gay people having rights? I support that. I do not however support naked people with sex toys hanging from their privates to walk down a public street where children might be.
Am I wrong?

Burned out pixels annoy me.

You spend hundreds, maybe thousands, on that brand new laptop, HDTV, or computer monitor, and just when you're ready to enjoy your investment, YOU SEE IT. That one fucking tiny dot from a burned out screen element (or stuck on so that they are always white).

These bad pixels don't simply talk to you. They scream "You paid all that money for perfection, and I will perpetually remind you that you didn't get it." Watching movies, TV, whatever, your guests won't notice a thing (I envy their blessed ignorance), but all the while you look at the screen, that evil dot will wear a crooked smile and say "I'm still heeeere."

Yeah, I'm "that guy". I once returned 6 HDTVs for screen imperfections, and was probably close to getting banned from the place. Got plenty of dirty looks, but I also got my perfect screen!  Gawd bless no-restock return policies!

Living in the SF Bay Area, I get a front row seat.  It's local news every single day.  Oh yay.

For most, it's about gay people having rights - just what you said.  But not for everyone.  For politicians, it's about dividing people, pandering, and collecting cash and votes, for these particular old creeps it's about in-your-face-screw-you.  It's about other things for others but this is a non-political thread and you get the idea.

This is what happens when government prohibits an industry from operating under the laws of the market, and instead forces them to make ultimately calamitous decisions based on short-term and often illusory gains from government programs. Sometimes the ones who take advantage of government largesse (just like the corporate cronies created by the reign of Barack I) can make out like bandits, but the taxpayers always get screwed.

What he said. The "in your face" crowd want to carve out extra-super-de-dooper uber-gay rights, which the rest of society doesn't have. They want a world where nothing identified with the glory of gayness may be criticized else it be vilified as *gasp* dum dum DUUUUUUM....homophobic! What you're seeing is the "this is OUR town" bit of gay fascism which is so popular in San Francisco. Just because you're gay doesn't mean you can't also be an asshole and a bully. And they are.

As far as imposing their celebration of Gay Universe on the public, the right to sodomize a man who most resembles an armored warthog does not extend to a public exhibition of it.

I am so with you on this. I am gay, and I don't support that at all, nor do I think it is bigoted(is that a word?) of you to express that you thought it was vulgar. Those people give other gay people a bad name. Saddens me. Getting rights does not mean bragging or making others' uncomfortable. Just sayin. Hope that helps.

Well said. :) Being a lesbian does not give me the right to have sex on the street, or force my lifestyle on others in their place of worship, or anywhere. I simply want the tax breaks, and to be able to see my partner if anything happens to either one of us. I am fine with a civil, legal, partnership.(Currently I have no partner, but you get the drift) I certainly am not gloating, or rubbing it in people's faces. Another shocker too, overall I am more libertarian than liberal anyway. I hate what these people do, because as part of their group, I do not want that representing me.

Right on.  I don't care if somebody's green, purple, or loves rutabagas.  You don't have to get in my face about it, though.

Is this really a smart move in Texas? As you may know there's a current brouhaha in Texas where a bill to ban late-term abortions has made that state a temporary national battleground. (Wait - what happened to the talk a decade ago about how no one really ever wanted late-term abortions to be legal, and that it was those fascist anti-abortion forces who had put that out there to make pro choice groups look like evil murderers? Because that was the position of pro-choice groups 10-15 years ago.*) So anti forces were at the Texas state capitol, singing "Amazing Grace". And it seems a bunch of pro-choice counter-demonstrators starting shouting "Hail Satan!" to drown them out. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jul/3/texas-abortion-battle-heats-activists-hail-satan/

What.the.hell. The mind boggles. Has it really descended to the point with that group that it's all about imposing their will rather than persuasion? what a dumb, dumb move.

*And no, I'm not anti-abortion. It's absolutely necessary. But I can't intellectually accept that a fetus is tissue with no rights one moment and a human the next just because light shines on it. Just as I resent what I see as the intellectual dishonesty of the pro industry, which has turned abortion into little more than a lifestyle decision, akin to removing a mole.

Juan

Plus, if one shoots a pregnant woman and causes the death of the fetus, in some states one can be charged with murder.

This abortion stuff is starting to sound like politics.

I deleted my last response due to that. And I would rather not discuss that here.

If you want to take this to politics, I am glad to debate/discuss this.

I hear you, and agree. Problem is that when one side of the debate refuses to acknowledge that when you fertilize a human egg with a human sperm, the only thing you can end up with is a human being, politics (and semantic sophistry) is pretty much what's left.

It is an incredibly complicated issue. Facts are facts and opinions are hardly ever changed.

I don't mind discussing it but (and I hate sounding like the hall monitor) it is better suited for the battlegrounds of the politics thread.

Ah, you're exactly right. I didn't think about that. Although the "Hail, Satan" silliness certainly does annoy me.

agreed, any discussion that goes to chanting on the street loses all credibility for both sides.

The UK Church of Satan tweeted that it does not support the abortionists. They take offense and say the issue has nothing to do with Satan.

Oh ffs this doesn't mean people who want access to abortions are in league with satan. At a rally years ago, one side was chanting "Jesus is King" while the other side was chanting "Elvis is King".

The countering chant is nothing more than to: A refute the irrational religious appeal, or sadly to incite the other side.

It annoys me that some Miss America hopeful has to pay pig-man Donald Trump $5 million for stating the obvious -- that such pageants are trashy and fraudulent.  I rarely say such a thing, but I will smile when that pug-ugly buffoon croaks.  The sooner the better.

If one partakes of the beauty queen competition, then there is little excuse for being upset with the superficiality. If you hug a snake you will get bitten (use Ross Perot's voice).
