It's convenient for you to pick that as a reason and try to make political hay out of it but the real reason for his firing was for making a no prosecution recommendation about Hill, which is the AG's job and out of his jurisdiction. He's an investigator not a judge.  ::)

Correct.. but as I said, not the only reason. And not the real reason Trump wanted him gone. Trump couldn't care less whether Comey said something out of turn (which happened long before Trump took office) about the DoJ. If he was that concerned, he'd have not kept Comey as FBI director when he took office in january.

Because Dems were pouting stalling the deputy AG wasn't signed on until recently. That's why not till now.  ;)

Stalled? Oh please. They wanted to be sure they didn't get yet another compromised Trump lacky. Archibald Cox anyone? Where is he when he's wanted?

No-one believes that's the reason. Mainly because the WH made the statement. Comey screwed up and both sides say that, but thatalone isn't the reason Comeywas fired now. The time to get a new director would have been in January. The give away was the Trump letter to Comey, actually mentioning the Russian investigation. Trump is panicking, and he'll trip up..

The Deputy Attorney General has been in office since April 26.  He did a quick review of Comey's conduct and recommended the firing.

If you think Comey was fired because ''he was getting too close'' to this hoped for Trump collusion, he is completely free to speak about it now, let's see if he has a thing to say.  Any evidence at all - Note:  there won't be.

Trump ever the professional. Comey must be pissed now....  ;)

Good.  He didn't deserve to be treated like a professional.  Too bad he wasn't at the office, they could have had him watch as security boxed up his shit, and walked him out.

I wish he would have fired Andrew McCabe at the same time.

I was just answering your question.  Next time I'll know you don't really want to hear it

And you left out the remarkably complete lack of evidence.  Usually that's what these type of issues are based on.

...I wonder who will be appointed.
Doesn't he have another daughter, son, uncle, cousin or in-law who could use the job?

Oh come come. He's not free to say anything. He's restricted by the same oath of secrecy as he was when he was director. But don't count your chickens just yet, Comey might be gagged in public. But not behind closed doors...

Politicians stating "Russian investigation" is all the evidence some need.

Didn't Ollie North get in trouble for accepting a security system after his life was threatened?
Yeah, I seem to recall something like that. If they want to get you they can usually find something. Apparently the Sessions stuff happened because he started looking into some "misleading" information/testimony by the government regarding banking transactions prior to the Gulf War. 48 hours later it was announced there would be an ethics investigation of him. Clinton got elected and then canned him because he wouldn't step down.

There is so many laws, rules, and regulations on the books that even a FBI Director couldn't possibly know, and know the nuance, of each one. And they always can go after you for some kind of 18 U.S.C. § 1001 violation or something. There also is lot of internal politics at agencies.

Oh? You know with absolute certainty that the FBI has no evidence? They told you that?

Nah, they are all rich and FBI Director is a step-down for them. Plus having to deal with the internal politics, attempt to clean up the tarnished image, and deal with politicians? Not good.

This has been going on for months.  All we have so far is a series of comments or events which have been twisted into accusations.  None of them have turned out to be anything.  The House, the Senate, and the FBI feel they need to look into every one in order to keep the Fake News Media at bay.  At long last, where is the evidence?  Anything?

This is the McCarthyite Left at their finest.

Listen to you.  If he fired Comey in January you and the Dems would be bitching that he was motivated by revenge and had pulled the trigger too quickly.  The below article contains excerpts from Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein (who has an impeccable reputation as a straight shooter and was approved by the Senate by a 96-4 vote) makes it clear that Trump really had no choice but to fire him.
What would the Dems be saying if he failed to fire him after receiving the recommendations that he did from Sessions and Rosenstein.  (Think about the criticism Trump is currently receiving for taking too long to fire Flynn.). Probably something like Comey was in the bag for Trump and he (Trump) didn't want to run the risk of a new guy coming in and going after him.  The Dems don't have a play here and this will die out fast. However, after all this, you can bet that The case against Hilliary Clinton will proceed.

He he.. you're fun when you get all hypocritical over stuff you'd gladly watch Obama get keel hauled for, if there was just a rumour.

So why fire him now over something that he stupidly said last year?  Why did Trump insert the paragraph referring to the Russia investigation? It wasn't neccessary if he was fired for speaking out of turn about the DoJ.

Yes and the But behind close doors bit was just to remind us that the phony "Rogue Potus" leaks will keep coming. They've got an army of Hollywood hacks working on them already.  ::)  ;D

Because that way you and the media have to repeat the fact that on 3 separate occasions, Comey said WE AREN"T INVESTIGATING YOU!!! You really aren't very bright, are you?  :D

You were told why.  The Deputy AG has been in office only a few days, did a review, and recommended he be fired.  Hasn't it been obvious for months Comey was in over his head and wasn't qualified?  Until today the Ds thought so.

I don't know how it works in the UK (and don't care), for the US think of the top Cabinet officials as CEOs and their and their top assistants as COOs.
