That's not why.  It's not a requirement that we treat every country the same, of even preferable that we do so.

Precisely!

QuoteBut slapping tariffs on our friends and allies is the wrong move.  It will drive up the cost of everything made fom steel and aluminum, and eventually everything made and transported by machinery and equipment made from steel and aluminum - a ripple effect through the economy.  It will cost jobs and business in companies that sell products subject to retaliatory tariffs placed on them by Canada, Mexico, and the EU.  It's a stupid thing to do.

They're only nominally our "friends and allies" you have to be aware that their first commitment is to themselves as absurdly biased trade agreements like NAFTA, GATT and CAFTA prove daily.

QuoteWhere we should threaten to enact tariffs - and much else - is on China.  It's long past time to send them the message that stealing industrial trade secrets and technology, stealing military technology, stealing intellectual property (films, books, music, etc), unfair trade practices for our companies doing business there, and so on, will simply not be tolerated.

Well Trump IS doing that, so enjoy the one sided spanking and quit barking about the other side getting caned.

Our worthless, and I do mean WORTHLESS "allies" have been sponging off us for far too long, period.

The right and Trump aren’t any better.

Yes they are!

WTF is up with that lie?

The left is actively seeking an open borders dissolution of national sovereignty leading to a complete failure of the nation known as America.

Did you not get that very obvious ruse?

QuoteIt is pathetic. We wait all this time to get an outsider President and what we get is someone who just wants to troll.

NO!

What you got is someone who is betrayed on every level by the deep state - left and right.

Trey Gowdy tells us we WANT the FBI spying on political campaigns.

Do YOU really want that?

If not how do you resolve his "out the door" last knife in the back of democracy and liberty?

QuoteIt used to be corruption and politicians out to enrich themselves were the biggest problem. Now is the complete hatred and inability for both sides to work with each other. Both sides would rather throw up smoke screen and misdirections, get nothing done, then blame the other side. It is a pathetic corrupt hate filled system on every side.

Yes it is...and????

QuoteFor the people who want to remove Trump do they realize that will have an equally large reaction?

Something needs to change. Things can go South in a hurry when there is this much hatred.

That train has left the station, enjoy the ride....

President Trump has harmed the American economy.

No he hasn't you absurd canuckleheaded slave to the royals.

QuoteYou have a good grasp of the trade situation.

You are a fucking LAUGHING STOCK here, hoser.

QuoteThe softwood tariffs made housing more expensive for you folks.

Bullshit saber rattling - no such thing has happened.

Oh btw, explain your gubmint meddling in BC property sales, fuckwit!

QuoteWe upped the price in American dollars on our wood and combined with the low Canadian dollar, we've done well. Not so much the working class Americans buying/building their houses.

You did jack diddly nada here hoser, go scare some tundra bunnies to death, fuck face.

QuoteSteel & aluminum will be the same.

I look forward to seeing Canuckistan nuked.

Soon.

QuoteBesides all the blather we slather on each other here, the American working class is no different than ours here in Canada. I enjoyed travelling the western states for years, found the western American citizens open and generous.

I find you exterminable, on sight.

Do come visit, PLEASE!

It’s much worse than that. The UK’s intellience services participated in a plot to prevent Trump from being elected and failing that to nullify the election results.  According to 23 and Me, I am 52% Brit which I am loathe to admit of late.

Thanks to the election of an expert in the business world, who’s pro business, pro America, and pro Americans: the economy continues to boom with the lowest unemployment in decades.

Black and Hispanic unemployment are the lowest in history.

Stock market up +250 points.

What do you get when you elect an unqualified anti American demokkkrat with zero private sector experience?
Quote“ … when somebody says, like the person you just mentioned (Donald J Trump) who I’m not going to advertise for, that he’s going to bring all these jobs back, well how exactly are you going to do that? What are you going to do?”

Just be glad the 42% of your DNA that isn't serf is in control.

And the overall unemployment rate is the lowest it's been in quite some time, and within an eyelash of the record.  Of course it's based on the number of people receiving unemployment insurance and doesn't include those who've been timed out and fallen off, but looking at the statistics as a trend over time, it's certainly better than it ever was under the incompetent Obama jerk-off

So what does the leader of the Democrat Party have to say?  The Party that told us they understood the reason they lost was because they don't do anything for middle America anymore, and vowed to change (before they decided to make a bunch of shit up about Trump and get their media toadies to go after him instead)

Well, here's Nancy Pelosi to tell us jobs don't mean anything to people.  It's more and more clear every day this is the Party of the very rich, the handout bums, and the Marxist street thugs who want to destroy the country.  Jobs don't mean anything to the poor?  To the middle class?  Really Nancy?

So where's Pud to point out this lie?  Nowhere.  This sort of dishonest garbage isn't really a lie, ''it's just politics'' as Shreddi pointed out.  No, Pud's after bigger game, like lies about crowd size and the weather, or campaign promises that either haven't been carried out yet or were blocked by Congress.

What a fucking liar (sorry, not lies - just politics).  Everything she writes in her statement applies far more to the Obama years than to where we are with Trump.  Health insurance premiums up double digits?  Check.  Families kicked off their coverage?  Check.

Insurance company profits up, gas prices up, soaring cost of living, stagnant wages, sell out of working families, corporations raising dividends and share buybacks? Check, check, check, check, check, check, check.  All happened under Obama.  Of course that - we were told repeatedly - was all Bushes' fault.

I'm not convinced tariffs against Europe are a good idea but I'm willing to wait to see how it plays out.  We can always revoke them later.

Exactly.  Trump is creating leveridge for negotiations with the many European states that levy ridiculously high tariffs on American goods.

Metron2267

And now he's negotiating a Russian summit, because maybe peace and cooperation Can break out...

https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-in-early-talks-for-potential-summit-between-trump-and-putin-1527898635
The planning is still at an early stage, the official said, with the two nations needing to agree on a date and location.

“This has been an ongoing project of Ambassador Huntsman, stretching back months, of getting a formal meeting between Putin and Trump,” the official said.

Any meeting between the two presidents would be expected to include discussions on Syria, Ukraine and nuclear-arms control. The summit’s purpose would be to resolve longstanding differences, people familiar with the matter said.

The summit would mark the third meeting between Messrs. Trump and Putin, who held discussions on the sidelines of two international meetings in 2017â€"one at the Group of 20 summit in Germany last July and at a November summit in Vietnam.
Mr. Trump has long said he wanted to improve relations with Russia, while at the same time bemoaning the poor state of Russian-U.S. ties.

As president-elect in January 2017, he made clear he wanted a cordial relationship with Mr. Putin. “If Putin likes Donald Trump, I consider that an asset, not a liability, because we have a horrible relationship with Russia,” Mr. Trump said at a news conference.

Three months ago, after he spoke to Mr. Putin on the phone and congratulated him on his election victory, Mr. Trump tweeted that “Getting along with Russia (and others) is a good thing, not a bad thing…”

The following month, though, he wrote in a tweet that “our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War.”

He added: “There is no reason for this. Russia needs us to help with their economy.” He went on to suggest that a more collaborative relationship with Russia could curb the arms race.

Now what will the Dems do if they lose their ability to use Russia as a divisive wedge against American interests?

Oh well, better go back to telling us how lousy this economy is..

Trumpers need to be on notice that the aluminum for their single wide trailers is about to get very expensive and Warren G. Harding can finally rest easy as he is no longer the worst POTUS ever.

Of course we should just let Russia and China engage in predatory pricing and drive our key remaining domestic aluminum producer (Alcoa) into the ditch.

Because that's the leftard way - fuck America up from the inside out.

And no one will likely ever eclipse the Obamessiah for the crown of worst President ever.

Jimma Carter must be ecstatic to have lost that crown in his declining years...

Then redo or ditch trade agreements, don't arbitrarily add tariffs to industries - the only result of which are higher domestic prices and retaliatory tariffs on our products sold abroad

Really?  Name a single successful domestic or foreign policy issue that Obama is responsible for.  Something where we can point to the actions he took to initiate and follow through on an issue most people would consider a success.  Because there was quite a bit of incompetence, division, failure, crime, and corruption we can point to.  Hell, if he wasn't the worst president in modern history, you should be able to name quite a few successes that were his doing over his eight years.

In just over a year Trump has already left him in the dust when it comes to the economy and foreign policy.

Can we agree that status quo was not working?

If so, what other means of resetting these trade "deals" do you favor?

Oh and....first shots fired:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-trade-nafta-mexico/mexico-readying-economic-response-if-u-s-exits-nafta-minister-idUSKBN1DD2KU

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico’s government is preparing a macroeconomic response in case U.S. President Donald Trump makes good on threats to quit the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/why-a-us-move-to-exit-nafta-is-not-the-end-of-the-free-trade-deal-or-free-trade-2018-01-11

Exiting a major trade deal is not easy. Under the terms of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, the U.S. would first have to give six months notice to the other countries involved, Canada and Mexico.

Such a move would almost certainly invite a legal challenge. Some experts say the president might not have unilateral power to withdraw because Congress passed a federal law to put NAFTA into effect.

Even if the White House prevails, the U.S. could and likely would continue to negotiate with Canada and Mexico, analysts say. Congress could also allow most or all of NAFTA trade rules to remain in effect even after the U.S. officially exits the trade pact.

So why is the Canadian government open expressing to the media its growing worries about a Trump pullout? Analysts say Canada is trying to encourage backers of the agreement in the U.S. to lobby the president, especially free-trade Republicans and prominent business groups.
