I'm guessing it was from an Illuminati jumble sale run by George Soros. Nice to see how we all get admonished for irresponsible speculation one minute, and then you're off like a homing rabbit when you sniff something from the other side.

Soros you say?

The former Nazi property confiscator who thinks he's God?

I feel like you're better than this.

I am sorry you're disappointed; I think you've been led astray by the "orange" business -- it's such an inviting title, I couldn't very well call it anything else.

I am sure you have grasped this already, but here are notes for anyone (ha!) who is interested:

1.  The subject of the poem isn't Trump himself but the movement (the "id")
2.  The first eight lines are meant to say that, like statues, all popular movements acquire a patina with age and were probably as garish in their day as Trumpism is now.  The phrase "hopes exchanged once more for what is true" represents the debate between progressivism and reality that, if anything, is biased towards the latter.
3.  In the last six, I refer to myself pejoratively ("effete scorn") suggesting my perspective is not to be understood as omniscient.  It starts out mocking but changes at the end, like a poem should.
4.  "Awful" has an archaic meaning.  You can guess which I prefer.
5.  The point of a sonnet is, conventionally, the last bit.  Here it is the last line, which is Hallmark-level subtlety.  I think I actually blushed.

Since you begged for it:

https://bsimmons.wordpress.com/2006/11/04/george-soros-interview-on-60-minutes/

When the Nazis occupied Budapest in 1944, George Soros’ father was a successful lawyer. He lived on an island in the Danube and liked to commute to work in a rowboat. But knowing there were problems ahead for the Jews, he decided to split his family up. He bought them forged papers and he bribed a government official to take 14-year-old George Soros in and swear that he was his Christian godson. But survival carried a heavy price tag. While hundreds of thousands of Hungarian Jews were being shipped off to the death camps, George Soros accompanied his phony godfather on his appointed rounds, confiscating property from the Jews.

http://gulagbound.com/6356/on-being-god-from-the-mouth-of-george-soros/

“I fancied myself as some kind of god …” he once wrote. “If truth be known, I carried some rather potent messianic fantasies with me from childhood, which I felt I had to control, otherwise they might get me in trouble.”

When asked by Britain’s Independent newspaper to elaborate on that passage, Soros said, “It is a sort of disease when you consider yourself some kind of god, the creator of everything, but I feel comfortable about it now since I began to live it out.”

“Next to my fantasies about being God, I also have very strong fantasies of being mad,” Soros once confided on British television. “In fact, my grandfather was actually paranoid. I have a lot of madness in my family. So far I have escaped it.”

I do not, Jackie  :(  I am offering ambiguity, hoping some poor fools will mistake it for depth.

Actually I'm happy to express anything at all, given the constraints of the form  :P

Okay, so you’re either a politician or a college professor.  Have you thought about going straight?

Don't stop believing...Why hasn't Trump released his tax returns like he promised he would?
Why should he? Personal income tax, which I think shouldn't exist and has some Constitutional problems with it, are between the person and the IRS. If someone wants to make them public he can but there is no requirement to do so. Someone's finances is their own business here. I don't know the laws in the UK from whence you fled.  ;) I know some Nordic countries tax records on income are public records and you can look up what people made etc.

Inspiring.

:D
There are a lot of decent, normal people in California once you get away from the perverted, leftist areas of Hollywood, college campuses, and the Bay area.  California the folks have more in common with folks in much of the country than the homeless homosexual drug addicts in SF, especially in rural areas or suburbs. Why there is always talks about breaking the state up in to several ones, which would be a good idea.

I know the Central Valley area is solid working class good folk. I think the same applies to a lot of NoCal up by Redding.

Such lovely state, and 2 cesspools of homeless sanctuary rot festering.

It's damned sad.

Props to Healdsburg too.

Preaching, professing...it's all the same damned thing - one person with either tenure or a collar or both trying to mold your mind in ways it was never meant to go.

The best teachers are literally coaches - work on those fundamentals and the talent will have a strong foundation to stand on.

Yeh?

Well, I guess the difference is the $70 million is real.  It isn't speculative, spin, imagination, or a smear.

If you know what well known political figures, or even top selling authors, are given as advances, you'd be asking about this too.  Well, unless it's a D-Rat I guess.

There are plenty of great people here in the Bay Area too.  The America-haters and their dupes don't win elections with 100% of the vote (it's more like 2/3).

Even most of the dupes are good people, just grossly mis-educated and mislead.  If those living on handouts, government bureaucrats, and single-issue special interest voters weren't voting for people pandering to them, these destructive people wouldn't be elected to anything and the area would quickly revert back to something pleasant and livable

I know there are. There is a large silent majority, or large minority, of normal people who just don't want to get involved or hope if they give in a little to the crazy leftists and selfish politicians things will stop. Unfortunately the parasites in society just want more and more when given into.

Well, sort of.  There is indoctrination, of course, but there is also critical thinking.  It's inevitable, sadly, that students will turn those new-found skills on those closest to them.

All I know is, the best professors I had were the ones who made me feel uncomfortable and defend myself.  I don't really know or care why they did it.

I tend to agree but do care and got annoyed with in some cases. I don't like when they pick on someone or use it for some ego-trip or to advance their sexual agenda on some co-ed. If they are using it for learning, Socratic Method, etc it is good but when they use it as a cudgel, to coin a favorite Clyde Lewis phrase, I don't like it. Simply having fun with some student or trying to make themselves look smart, etc. Especially since a lot of these guys are safe in their tenure and far away from market forces and reality. Or, trapped in some educational position due to politics, and universities are filled with politics, and so bitter and take it out on students. It is easy to 'beat up' rhetorically some freshman from some po-dunk town who went to some public school.

Interesting.

My experience was quite the opposite, the best professors were those who presented information like nested Russian Eggs, you simply had to open each one expectantly to get to the hollow center of it all.

But if you lacked the rigor (fundamentals) the eggs would never come apart.

The best professors were those who you couldn’t tell which way they leant politically. Generally science professors did this best, but this was 25 years ago before the left started corrupting science. History teachers celebrating the day Reagan left office, or the day Clinton was elected, or proudly identifying as a communist. Not so good. But fun to argue with nonetheless. To their credit, they did seem to appreciate the effort.

Today’s institutions are indoctrination factories. Open thought and debate is frowned on, protested and banned.

Hey buddy, you're not the only unrepentant "deplorable" in this fine meshed sieve... ;D

So I have several phone calls this morning back to back, and one ends early.  After checking my email, BG, a couple of other sites, I turn on the TV - something I rarely do in the daytime.

I'm flipping around, and there's demented Nancy Pelosi making a speech.  She's telling people the reason Trump wants to build a wall is to return the US to being a ''white'' country again.  This is what she's telling people.  Not that we should control our borders to make sure we keep out gang members, cartel members, other criminals, and people who won't be able to support themselves here.  No, it's because Trump wants to make the country ''white''.

This is the Democrats.  Divisive, destructive, and racist.  And projecting that on everyone else.  It's really all they have, the only thing they can do to generate votes.

This is what gets me about people like Yorkshire Pud.  If Trump lies about some hose-bag he boned 20 years ago, or what the weather was like on inauguration day, or the size of the crowd, we never heard the end of him endlessly droning on about it, what a liar Trump is, and so on.

Yet lies like the one Nancy Pelosi told today - racist, divisive, destructive lies solely meant to poison the body politic - are common with these people.  They're told everyday, and the media either dutifully reports them (with their own spin to make them more palatable of course; or bury them completely when they are meant only for specific audiences, and can't possibly be justified).  Those lies are all ok - people like Pud will never point them out for what they are, let alone condemn them.

That's just politics. It's very difficult to prove someone lied, in the sense of knowingly telling a falsehood. Even Trump has got the benefit of the doubt in that area. Whatever the intentions behind it are, I doubt your average red-hat-\wearing Trumphole views the browning of America with equanimity.

Yes, I'm being Yorkie for the day.

Given this "browning" is a mass invasion by illegals from south of our porous border how much "equanimity" should we give them or the vote-pandering DemoTards who've enabled this criminal wave to flood across Amerika?

Remember it's underestimated at 11 million, the real number being twice that.
