How so?  He and his father, as Alawite Shia Muslims were always Iran's and Hezbollah's ally.  If we worked together, it was on specific issues, we weren't allies.

It's true we've been allies of the Saudi's for decades - there are no good choices there, it's probably better for each of us to pretend to be on friendly terms with each other than for us to be clear enemies of the terror regime that overthrows them.

Clearly Obama is an ISIS supporter.

I'm not sure why we'd supply an unfriendly country with chemical weapons, I thought Saddam sent them there for safe keeping?

I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding something here. Saudi Arabia hasn't been overthrown by terrorists. They are the terrorists. Terrorists are just political tools that the filthy rich use to get their way now.  ;)

Quote from: Yorkshire pud on December 30, 2016, 11:25:37 AM
He [Obama] would have the advantage of actually knowing about foreign countries. Whether that knowledge would actually be  put to any worthwhile use is another matter entirely.  ;D

Oh yes, his foreign policy experience would be a plus in any future position.

I'm very aware of who they are.  It's better to have them in charge there, pretending to be our allies, than whoever would overthrow them.  There are no good alternatives - who could hang onto power for long - in that country.

I couldn't disagree more. They're the primary reason we've been in such shit over there (and here) since 9/11, which they obviously had a hand in. The good alternative I think you're looking for is that we should side with like minded people. There are some ideologies that are fundamentally incompatible with democracy. There's is one of those. I don't want to be friends with such slimy, head chopping bastards anymore.

I don't know who that would be.

The arc of countries running from Somalia to Yemen to Saud Arabia to the Gulf States to Iran to Pakistan has no moderate civilized people to speak of.  Where would they have learned religious or political moderation?

In Iraq, much more secular and ''modern'' than Saudi Arabia - look what they chose after Saddam.  In Egypt they voted in the Moslem Brotherhood the first chance they got, in Gaza the ''highly educated'' Palestinians voted in Hamas, in ''modern secular'' Lebanon Hezbollah wins enough seats to control the government.  Saud Arabia has no groups of people who are even as ''civilized'' as the Egyptians, Palestinians, or Lebanese.  The choice right now is between the Saudi royal terrorist family, and the Shia minority terrorists supported by Iran.

It's high time they stop thinking that. Fuck 'em both! Since we've been bombing people into the stone age there for awhile now what's to say we couldn't do that to anyone who doesn't get with the program. Terrorists without weapons aren't very effective usually.  ;)

Here's an interesting article on the breakup of the Soviet Union and the kleptocracy that followed written by someone living in Ukraine at the time.  It shows what is going on with Putin.

Putin is a KGB thug.  Annexing the Crimea, instigating and supporting the uprising in the eastern Ukraine, annexing parts of Georgia and destabilizing them, threatening the Baltic states and some of the other former soviet states, murdering journalists and businessmen, selling weapons and equipment useful in developing nuclear weapons to Iran, entering Syria - not to fight terrorism, but to prop up his puppet Assad.  Enriching himself by seizing businesses, allowing the mobs to run the economy.  There's Malaysian Flight 17, shot out of the sky - if not on his orders, he's certainly stonewalling the investigation.  On and on about Putin.

Hey, no one's perfect.  Lighten up.

What would your pleasure be? Lethal injection, electric chair or firing squad? The Arabs might be backward in their thinking, but at least their execution rate is low. There are more incarcerated people in the USA than any other country in the world. How many do you think are terrorists? How many are there due to miscarriages of justice? Do you think the USA is more pre-desposed to breeding criminals than other countries? If so, why?

Show your workings.

As is often the case your argument is specious.  You seem to be forgetting what constitutes a capital offense in Saudi Arabia--adultery, homosexuality, speaking ill of the profit, selling drugs, etc.  The means of execution is a ceremonial beheading in public square where exits are blocked so that anyone who happens to be in the square at the time must remain until however many miscreants on the slate are separated from their heads. Must be a good experience for the kiddies.   What you consider "backward" most would see as barbaric.

I'm not defending SA, I said they're backward. But when you live in glass houses you shouldn't throw stones. Everything you've mentioned has had people killed in the US, sometimes by mob rule.  Add women who have had abortions, the medics who do them too. Add rapists having leniency because the cunt came from 'a good family', and/or the victim has the temerity to wear a mini skirt, so must have egged the cunt on. Add people who have mental issues and are in jail because there's nowhere else to put them. And they're 'funny', so naturally must be bad.

The USA is in no position to call the odds on other countries' treatment of victims of crime or victims of miscarriages of justice.

Are you really suggesting that there is a moral equivalent between institutionalized barbarity and shit that happens to one degree or another in every society including the U.K. Have you not read the works of your own social critics beginning with Dickens and extending to contemporary writers?  Please, People in tin houses shouldn't throw can openers.  (Turnabout is fair play.) :D

You think a miscarriage of justice isn't in some way a product of an institution? Barbarity is relative. Many in Europe think that capital punishment in any form is barbaric. Yet many states in the US have it. Paradoxically, you have more than one mass shooting a day and it seldom makes the news. You think that is civilised?

Okay so your answer to my question is yes. You're a moral relativist in the best tradition of the Left Wing.  Glad we got that cleared up.

OBTW Great footwork--you're a master of deflection.  But please don't make shit up.   If there was more than one mass shooting a day, believe me our anti-gun MSM would be all over it and more people would be carrying heat in self defense (which is probably a good idea).  You usually know what you're talking about but this case you're in LA LA LAND.

He he..you don't extend your deflection wand at MD who gets all tongue tied I see? Oh, the mass shooting stats? Yeah.. suck on this.

Quote

Mass shootings: There were 372 mass shootings in the US in 2015, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870, according to the Mass Shooting Tracker, which catalogues such incidents. A mass shooting is defined as a single shooting incident which kills or injures four or more people, including the assailant.

Source: Mass Shooting Tracker

School shootings: There were 64 school shootings in 2015, according to a dedicated campaign group set up in the wake of the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre in Connecticut in 2012. Those figures include occasions when a gun was fired but no-one was hurt.

How the US compares: The number of gun murders per capita in the US in 2012 - the most recent year for comparable statistics - was nearly 30 times that in the UK, at 2.9 per 100,000 compared with just 0.1.

Of all the murders in the US in 2012, 60% were by firearm compared with 31% in Canada, 18.2% in Australia, and just 10% in the UK.

I'd say that figures lie and liars figure.  The majority of the casualties you cite are gang bangers and other criminals killing each other..  They reside in the Ghettos of our large cities that were created by  left wing social engineers who are still in charge and who now have a mess on their hands that they are powerless to do anything about. The vast majority of these cities have draconian gun laws and a high percentage of minorities and illegal aliens.  Since the'60s they have been run by corrupt Democrat administrations who by their corrupt practices and incompetence have driven out  business and the middle class, destroyed the tax base and driven their cities into bankruptcy. I could go on for pages.

You should know that the source of your data is a crackpot organization that has been caught in more distortions and outright lies than Obama.  You really should be more discriminating in your selection of sources.

Look, I'd like to continue this conversation but I've got an appointment to get my hat blocked.

Happy New Year to all!

But then you've heard all this and more before, because I've already answered your question many times.

Given these hopeless ruined areas are run by the ''Progressive'' Left (and have been for 50 years), who continue to be elected overwhelmingly there with the rest of us having zero influence, what would you have us do other than steer clear of the criminals and throw them in prison when they're caught?

Very few, given the hoops the prosecution has to jump through to get a conviction.

It's the same people being arrested, being convicted, going to jail, out on parole, getting arrested again, over and over.  Nearly all these criminals end up being arrested and convicted multiple times - do you think it's all made up by the police and the district attorneys?

All this is going on while Obama continues to focus on doing pissy little things to undermine Trump and punish America for voting him into office.  Someone ought to drive this whining bitch out of the White House with a stick before he chews the furniture and soils the carpets.
