pud's just upset because we actually have more in common with Russia than the UK. We both fought bloody rebellions to free ourselves from the ass-backwards whimsy of monarchies. We also share a common Christian heritage and a respect for science and reason. pud, like the UK always does, just wants us to fight their enemy for them because they're to weak and ineffective to...but we really have more interest in befriending Russia than continuing to be fucked with by the UK and the EU and the UN. I'm looking forward to a new period of detente with Russia and the day when the people pushing for war with Russia here will be ashamed of their jingoistic ways. ;)

Ok, American pud, have it your way...though that way seems to be making our country and the world a lot worse...that's why we voted against it this election. If people really wanted war with Russia they would've voted for Hillary.  ;)

no i don't think we should have war with Russia, but i also dont think that we as Americans can be naive to think that Putin holds our best interests in mind.

Yes, we're all getting back to the reality that countries hold their own interests as primary. I guess in your mind that makes them all evil because they're not acting like a subsidiary of the US or EU?

I can't argue with that because it's a much needed recalibration at this time but I'll believe all the Russia hysteria when I actually start to see American capital leaving Russia en mass. That ain't happening yet. Always follow the money to the truth.  ;)

It is difficult to know where to begin in correcting your frankly incredibly* uninformed bollox. But carry on duffas. Just make sure you never breed.

*On a  level of incredulity that would keep plankton laughing at you for weeks.

Funny, no specifics in your criticism. I guess, as usual, you got nuthin!  :P

How about if we ship over a million or two of the illegal aliens we have in this country.  Would that allay your angst?

He shouldn't. What he doesn't realize is that he's actually advocating for labor/labour exploitation.

He doesn't, of course. But it's time to cool down the tensions and refocus. That said, it's rather sad to see a US president trying to poison what relations we had left with Russia just to fuck over the president-elect. Add that with the 3500 new regulations today, the finger Kerry gave to Israel, and it's just become ridiculous. Pud likes to paint Trump as dumb or whatever, but that's just rhetorical media crap he's parroting. The real atrocity here is the unethical and irresponsible behavior the Obama administration has displayed after the election. They're acting like children at this point.

i agree with what your saying, my only issue is that a lot of people paint Putin as a saint or some sort of American savior. and i really do hope that Trump is just stringing Putin along, not actually believing that Putin is his friend etc

You're really ignoring a big chunk of their history in trying to demonize them. After Stalin died they intentionally let the world know that they were going through a period of deStalinization. They wanted to distance themselves from that era to let us know that they thought it was pretty horrible too and were at least making an attempt at appeasing the West without entirely abandoning their ideology but eventually, by the 80s, they were willing to do even that. They just didn't want to become victim to the same kind of predatory capitalism of globalism that they saw was even starting to fuck with our way of life. I'm glad were now joining them in that awareness. I think it will only make both our countries stronger in the long run.

... isn't that Canadian? Race treason.

Putin is a KGB thug.  Annexing the Crimea, instigating and supporting the uprising in the eastern Ukraine, annexing parts of Georgia and destabilizing them, threatening the Baltic states and some of the other former soviet states, murdering journalists and businessmen, selling weapons and equipment useful in developing nuclear weapons to Iran, entering Syria - not to fight terrorism, but to prop up his puppet Assad.  Enriching himself by seizing businesses, allowing the mobs to run the economy.  There's Malaysian Flight 17, shot out of the sky - if not on his orders, he's certainly stonewalling the investigation.  On and on.

Much of this is outside the strategic interests of the US, or should be, but we shouldn't kid ourselves about Putin.  We should work with them on common interests where we can, and choose our battles carefully.  Russia can be useful, or they can be a bitter enemy.  Hopefully Trump can handle them better than the hapless pathetic hack team of Obama, Biden, Hilary Clinton and John Kerry.

Please! We call everyone a thug who doesn't go along with exactly what we want. Prior to 2011 Assad was a friend, now he's a thug too. I also understand that the majority of people in the Ukraine actually want to be part of Russia. Ever hear the story of the boy who cried wolf one too many times?  :D

I think what I outlined was a tiny bit more than ''not going along with exactly what we want''.  I also said we should work with him in areas of common interest.

Assad and his father were never our friends.  They occupied much of Lebanon, supported terror, and were seeking chemical weapons.

Unlike the other Arab dictatorships they didn't even buy weapons from us (not that that alone makes them better or worse, but a regime has to be on pretty unfriendly terms to not have access to our weapons).  He falls into the category of Saddam Hussein, Mubarak, Khadafy, and some others in that he was able to keep a lid on things in his country, and would be better than whatever followed.  Of all the dictator Arab regimes, the Assad's were probably the least friendly to the US, at least since Khadafy repudiated terrorism.

During the Soviet era many Russians moved to the various other soviet states.  There are large Russian populations in many if not most or all of them.  Certainly the Baltic states, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, even Georgia.  I don't think they are the majority in any of them, or in any parts of them.  I believe eastern Ukraine is something like 40% Russian.  The US position is always that border conflicts be resolved peacefully.  If the Russians who find themselves living outside of Russia want to live in Russia, they should move there.

Prior to 2011 he was an ally we supported. We do the bidding of Saudi Arabia though and they want him out so that there's no competition for their pipeline. So, there we are. Also, I'm pretty sure it's come out it in various confirmed sources that the chemical weapons were ours and that we've been funding and supporting ISIS.  ;)

How so?  He and his father, as Alawite Shia Muslims were always Iran's and Hezbollah's ally.  If we worked together, it was on specific issues, we weren't allies.

It's true we've been allies of the Saudi's for decades - there are no good choices there, it's probably better for each of us to pretend to be on friendly terms with each other than for us to be clear enemies of the terror regime that overthrows them.

Clearly Obama is an ISIS supporter.

I'm not sure why we'd supply an unfriendly country with chemical weapons, I thought Saddam sent them there for safe keeping?
