I agree. Ian is always prepared and reads the book. He asks good questions.

I second that.  If Ian had taken the show we would not be stuck with George...
maybe this is all the explanation needed?

Ian does really good interviews and I don't mind listening to him, but I can't really stand him as a person. He's like a grown up version of that goody goody tattletale nerd kid who sits in the front of the class and sucks up to the teacher.

I want to give ian punnett a wedgie and steal his lunch money.

CrabbyOld Bat

Punnett seems like a nice guy if taken in small doses. My main gripes are his constant interruptions while a guest is speaking and his habit of asking unbearably convoluted questions.

Whereas Snorge can't ask an interesting, probing question under any circumstances, Punnett is apparently incapable of asking a simple question of 25 words or less. Two sides of the same coin C2C slug?

Again and again......Ian is OK....he is SMART.....(yep, he can be a bit too much).......but, he has well developed brain which I do appreciate.  He continues to ask the questions that all of us would ask.....because all of YOU are smart too!

Coast to Coast - Ian Punnett Shows

3/10/13

When a national emergency is declared, massive legislation is made available for the President to enact including the rationing of food, water, and energy, and the confiscation of your personal vehicle and "electromagnetic devices." Citing directly from official govt. documents, author Brian Tuohy joins Ian Punnett to expose how these laws and procedures are waiting to spring into action.

First hour, Ian takes open lines and callers and this is interesting. Asteroid explosions, government taking our rights away, and old-style hard line phones. Good stuff. See how an impromptu topic can take off and make interesting radio GN?  Of course GN doesn't.
Looking forward to Brian Tuohy as well.
Ian also announces he will be going to Arizona State for a PhD program in Radio Broadcasting or something similar. I guess no more Reverend.

IAN PUNNETT'S ANGRY PRAYERS TO GOD WEBSITE:
This marks FortRock's first posting outside of the "Art Bell Quits Coast" Page. I have long wondered about Ian Punnett's "Angry Prayers To God" website. Ian has now written a book on his findings from that website's participants of it's research project. Here is that "Coast To Coast AM" website mention, and a link to his "Angry Prayers To God" website:

The best thing about Ian is he's not Jorch Nooree.

Ian being defended as one of the better hosts is a testament at how poor the show is in general than Ian being a good host. I think part of it is skewed by how little he hosts too.

Wait until they get a load of our smarmy pear-shaped know-it-all

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)  in Journalism and Mass Communication

The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication offers a student-centered, scholarly research-oriented Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in journalism and mass communication. It is focused on original research, faculty-student mentoring, an interdisciplinary experience and flexibility.

The program’s emphasis is on original research to prepare students for careers in journalism and mass communication education as well as related business fields. Students are immersed in methodology, theory, philosophy and critical thinking and develop evaluation and research skills and extend those into new areas of scholarship. The program provides students with the opportunity for peer reviewed presentations/publications, in addition to the required scholarly dissertation.

Students study in the Cronkite School’s new $71 million state-of-the-art journalism complex on ASU’s Downtown Campus in the heart of Phoenix, the nation’s fifth-largest city. Students also may take courses in fields such as public affairs, justice studies, law, history and theater at both the downtown and Tempe campuses.

Students admitted into the program are expected to have professional media experience along with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism, mass communication or a related field. Students without master’s degrees may be admitted but will be required to complete additional course work. All Ph.D. students will have the opportunity to interact with master’s degree students, undergraduates and professionals in an enriched learning environment.
A key part of the degree program is the opportunity for students to be mentored by nationally known scholars who also have professional experience in broadcasting, strategic media and public relations, new media and print. The interests of the Cronkite faculty include both qualitative and quantitative methods on topics such as Spanish-language media, media management and economics, gender and race, news quality, entrepreneurship, sex and the media, First Amendment theory, popular culture, newsroom culture, international communication and history.

The Cronkite School’s Ph.D. is the only program of its kind in Arizona and one of the few in the Southwest. Students are encouraged to visit the school, tour the campus and meet with faculty members. Interested students should contact Associate Professor Craig Allen

Well the callers were there. Its like a bad bar with hot women. If a bad bar consistently has hot women, is it still a bad bar?

Is he going to move to Phoenix?   With his kids - what does he call them, Icky an Stinky(?) - off to college, he and Margery can broadcast their show from anywhere.  There are churches everywhere.

He's just so funny - moving near the other border will he change his signature line from telling the Aliens to 'eat Canadians first, they taste better', to Mexicans?  I sure hope so - they'd kick him out of college in no time.

I enjoyed the  show. Ian is a much better interviewer and he reads the book. He is able to talk and take calls. Much better than George in all formats of the host duties. Knapp still is my favorite.

whatsup

I liked Ian at first, he didn't let the guest run amok and asked challenging  questions unlike noory. But he change after he got into it with one of the guest on the air and he's been sucking ever since. Most of his topics have nothing to do with what this show is supposed to be about.

I agree Ian changed around that time.  All the irritating things he does now were more of a schtick before, now it's for real and he's a real ass-wipe too much of the time.

I didn't mind the subjects he chose for the most part, they were different and interesting.  Some choices were beyond horrible, like the horse/man guy, that's for sure.

The worst thing about Ian is he could be a really good host, but he just refuses.  He'd rather be a punk.

Yep,  agreed!

I wonder if Ian has enrolled in his journalism classes yet.  Looking back, there was always one idiot - one person that had to be the teachers pet, had to be talking in class all the time, had to keep asking questions long after it was really time to go.

Guess who that person is going to be at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism the next few years.

Professor, you forgot to give us our homework assignment for the weekend. That''s Ian.

*It was also Mike McDonaugh in my 5th grade class entering Columbus Day weekend(Friday 10/11/85)...we beat the piss out of him in the schoolyard after that move.

NowhereInTime

I really don't know why anyone feels compelled to piss all over the man.  Now he's trying to do something different with his life, and we immediately condemn him?  Aren't we always screaming for Jorch to try to improve his knowledge and technique?  Ian's going to be a successful author and who knows where his studies take him; I commend him for trying.  For a guy who does one show a month I really don't get the passionate dislike for the guy.  Unlike Snoorge, he can interview people.  Unlike Lurch, he can form complete, coherent sentences.  Knapp may get better guests but at least Ian gives a damn. Kudos, Deacon!

I personally think he's an ass.  For a whole variety of reasons, all posted earlier.

I get that not everyone agrees though.

BobGrau

I'm a Punnett fan. But even I think he's an ass. I mean that in a nice way.

VtaGeezer

Seeing tonight's (4/14) primary topic/guest, a tour of the alimentary canal; my hunch is that C2C's owners trying to push Punnett out altogether. If they can knock off Punnett, and then Knapp, by booking only truly dreadful subjects for them, it will clear the deck for Wells' cracked-pot far right politics on Sundays, and put pressure on Noory.

Ian and Knapp appear to pick their own guests and subjects however.

This show was already done on Radiolab

"Not long ago, writer Mary Roach got a real hands-on lesson on the gut: she got to stick her hand inside a real live cow stomach, and experience digestion from the inside. When we heard about her adventure, we had to try it ourselvesâ€"so producer Tim Howard headed to Rutgers University to see, feel...and smell...a fistulated cow firsthand. Then, we get a peek inside another stomach, this time a human one. Mary returns, with help from writer Fred Kaufman, to tell the improbable story of Dr. William Beaumont and hunter-turned-living-science-experiment Alexis St. Martin. In 1822, an accidental shooting left St. Martin with a hole in his gut that wouldn't heal, but didn't kill him either. Instead, the opening gave Dr. Beaumont a one-of-a-kind window into the human body. And the strange relationship that developed between doctor and patient changed the way we understand digestion."

I personally think Putznut is an ass too.  He is a complete hypocrite.  He goes on and on about being a deacon in the church, and yet he is so full of himself he is a horrible representation of what a man of the cloth should act like.  He is also extremely condescending to a lot of his guests and callers.  He cannot get through a show without having to say something very off-color, especially for a deacon, that is always some potty humor and/or sexual innuendo.  I hate when he's in a bad mood, you can just tell it's going to be a confrontational night for the poor guest.  His constant stuttering is REALLY annoying too.  And his delivery how he recaps, and recaps, and recaps, and recaps everything over and over again is so annoying.  If he would just move on he could get a heck of a lot more of a show in.

That's it for now, thanks.

I get a sense Ian selects his guests based on being chummy with them (or they follow his Twitter feed), as a favor of sorts to keep them relevant. Titanic, anyone?

As for sNoory and his guests, I distinctly remember sNoory mentioning he has the final say on who gets on the show.  If they're not to his approval I'm sure they wouldn't get on the program. But that goes for the kiss-up callers, too.

Morgus

Ian sure his plugging his newest book a lot tonight,
He also mentioned he is moving to start his work on a phD.

I've always liked Ian.  He has some annoying quirks but he's a smart guy who can keep up with his guests intellectually.  He usually deals with plausible subjects and will call BS on anyone who's way out in left field.  Even in the days of Art I looked forward to when Ian was on.

ShayP

Ian irritates me.  I hate the way he starts the show. His twitter references. His attitude. I can include any of the gripes you folks on this site have as well.  Ugh!
