Critical Omissions with Douglas Dietrich

We had a constant issue with water-proofing gear especially in the rainy season. We also were hit by two Typhoons. We would frequently return from an 8 hour patrol covered in green mud. We simpy stripped naked and placed our clothing and gear outside before entering our air-conditioned, polished barracks.

The procedure for an end to patrol was to clear our weapons, turn them into the armory to Navy personnel. All our rounds were then counted and placed into wooden blocks. We then proceeded outside from the quarterdeck to the rear of the barracks.

One time my brother and I went to Fleet week and toured a few ships. On one of the ships, a sailor posted on deck carried one of those neat little M-1 carbines. It must've been old because the stock was well weathered.
