oh no, you can carry on with the same track. it's just that effects are applied track-wide rather than region-wide within a given track, so if you have things that need different effects, you have to open another track.

Audacity is fine for long form transfers. If recording songs or needing improved plug ins (tons of great free ones out there) Mixcraft is incredible.
