Not at all!  That's what I've read, so I've kneaded it until I'm exhausted.  But my aunt, who makes the best hveteboller in the world, swears she just stirs it around a little.  But she's a little territorial, so I think she's trying to throw me off.  Good to have confirmation from a professional.

Have you tried yelling profanities at it (your baked goods)?

No that's one thing I haven't tried!  It might just work.

I'll do some research and get back to you. I need to know now.

I don't know the bread you're making. Are you throwing in the extra ingredients too soon? That would really weigh it down.

Here's the basic recipe, just so you can see the ratios:

2 1/2 cups milk
Half a stick of butter
Two eggs
Two tablespoons yeast
1 cup sugar
5 cups flour, add sixth as needed
Pinch of salt and as much ground cardamom as you can afford, but that shouldn't mean anything.

For Christmas, add currants, raisins and citron.  I put those in after the first rise so they don't cut it up too much during kneading.

Also, before I try to make a hvetboller. What is it about it that makes it so great? Is it all the stuff in it surrounded by a nice warm dough?

If that is the whole recipe then yes, more flour. You said there was other stuff in it though?

I imagined it had a bunch of cut up fruit or something in it. If there isn't any fruit then giving extra moisture then I don't see how it wouldn't work if you just added more flour.

Well this time I was spreading it flat and smearing mashed taro filling on it, so no fruit.  Usually only at Christmas do I put fruit other than currants.  The good part is the cardamom.  I think you have to grow up with it, otherwise it's just a bun.

I'm going to try to make it a few times. I'll let you know my results. Also since I don't know what it is supposed to look like I will look it up, heh.

Ok the hveteboller are the buns, the julekake is the bread.  Same basic dough, though.  Thanks an awful lot!

Oh also the buns are 12 minutes at 425 -- supposed to be a little underdone in the middle to stay moist.  Bread, lower the temp a bit and for time you guess based on the size of the loaf hahaha.

Ha I understand.  Warm, fresh bread is like nothing else.

My filling came out a faint, pastel purple, kinda pretty.  Funny, because the peeled taro was as white as potatoes.

Taro is a starch though? It's not a bad thing because that is what bread is mostly. I think your dough was too wet.

Yes, it's essentially bread filled with mashed potatoes.  The dough did fine containing the filling; it didn't really mix, and I pinched it good.  I just know that if I'd put it in a baking sheet instead, it would have spread to the size of Rhode Island.

If you haven't used cardamom before, try to find just the black seeds in the middle of the pods instead of what's sold as ground cardamom at the grocery store -- that has the tasteless white pods in it too; you can tell by the color.  Sketchy middle-eastern stores have the seeds cheap.  Also, it smells potent but is very volatile; most will bake out.  That's why you use as much as you can afford hahaha.  I put at least four tablespoons of just the seeds, freshly ground.

I always wondered why, when they became independent, they kept a name they can't pronounce.

Yes, that’s right. A forum about a show that no longer exists that is now a forum about baking bread.

Hi other person that we've never seen before. Have a bun.

was KCAA the last affiliate? is the show now internet-only?

K_Dubb

Woke up to one of the shows on Hoagie's station talking about the Filipino accent, coincidentally.  A guy who visited there reported being asked frequently, upon finishing a meal at a restaurant, "Are you finished?"  Keep in mind fs become ps, is and es are strongly fronted and closed compared to what we're used to, and ʃ is more of an s.

Somewhere in the back of my memory I think I heard them announce a Wolfman Jack marathon.  Probably all it is.

Didn't even the shortwave station finally give up on MITD?

The shortwave station was paid by money mark Bob Crane to carry the show so they weren't really a proper affiliate. I noticed she started doing some infomercial-esque endorsements of C Crane products last week
