Apparently, he was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base from 1965-1967. That's when his encounters with the Tall Whites were supposed to have occurred.

Hilarious! What a great epiitaph. His show has a special place in the nostalgia of my heart. When I was growing up and well into my early adulthood his show was always played before the local PBS station signed off. He fueled my interest in stargazing and astronomy, in general. I even bought this a few years back in an attempt to fill the void left by his absence:

I read that he continued to do the show until 2010.  I stopped watching PBS on a routine basis years ago.  I'm sorry I missed so many of his shows.
