No problems that we won't get over. We love each other very much and nothing will tear us apart; No Mary. not even you, geddit?

Kisses 'bruv!  :-*  innit?

Uncle Duke

Just went over to artbell.com/MITD to see how the site has been updated to reflect Heather's new role as host on MITD......apparently nothing so far.  Guess Keith has other irons in the fire, but hopefully if the show stays viable he'll come up with a new, or at least updated, site.  It occurs to me I have no idea even what Heather looks like, is there a photo of our new late night overlord anywhere?

Quote from: Robert on December 15, 2015, 10:12:06 AMYes, but a lot of people who've been producers or even engrs. for a while sound like they're old hands at the mic.  I hear it a lot on WFMU.  Jason Jarvis was very smooth when he took over from his mother Judy on her network talk show after he'd been her producer, but smoothness alone didn't make him or the shows interesting.
However, I just Googled a little & learned that Jason Jarvis added an affiliate nearby him as late as the spring of 2002.  However, he'd lost a lot of other affiliates in that time, including the nearby ones who'd carried the Judy Jarvis Show.  I don't know if he's still working in radio or what.

Someone wormholed her last asking if we could put a face to her voice and she flat out said no.

(psst... "cookies" is a euphemism for sodomy ;))

Uh-oh, do I have to check Wikipedia now to see if Barry Farber's still alive, which he was last I knew?  I haven't heard him in a while, haven't seen him in even longer (was an in-studio panelist once, met him socially another time or 2, not in the Language Club), but you still have me worried.

Whew, no  death date!

Wow, Barry Farber is still alive in this universe? The Mandela phenomenon is happening again, although TBH, Mandela only died the one time in whatever universe(s) I've been living in. It's all very confusing, but thank God for Wikipedia. If I ever see that White Light, I'm going straight there to get the facts.

Quote from: aldousburbank on December 15, 2015, 12:52:39 PMA couple of posters here keep reminding us that Heather is not a professional broadcaster. Ok, go listen to any of several pros whose shows are awful and unlistenable. And, bye.
Most of my listening is to WFMU, where the "talent" is unpaid.  A few of them have other jobs at the station that are paid, a few of them are or have been paid on-air people elsewhere, but technically for what you hear coming out of the speakers, they're amateurs.  But they're good, really good.  And technically if Heather's been getting paid, she's a professional b'caster.

Miser much?

I know you and Heather are pals (more than that?) but I think it's unfair to suggest that we need to financially support her just because we are fans of Art.

Don't get me wrong I like Heather and she's good at what she does but I took out a subscription to support Art and so I could listen to his show when I couldn't listen live. I mostly don't listen live and frankly I don't think I would actively seek out a free Heather podcast so I don't think it's fair to label me as a miser because I won't pay for a show I don't think I'd listen to. This isn't a slight on Heather as I would say the same thing about Joe Blow if he were host.

I truly wish Heather well. It's a shame she's been thrust into this position and you can understand the anger that is unfairly directed at her. That anger would be directed at anyone who took over from Art in THESE circumstances. I feel bad for Heather that she had to take that heat but hopefully her Balls of steel can deflect most of it.

Smoothness is overrated with some people who listen to a lot of podcasts, as is pressing the right buttons and managing not to fall out of one's chair. What really matters is, of course, talent, which is not learned or picked up by osmosis. It's the difference between getting and keeping listeners on the one hand and just filling space on the other. Interesting how sometimes talent can be inherited in one creative area or another (not a coincidence that Liza Minelli is Judy Garland's daughter) and sometimes not, as in your example.

A lot of people are going to think GS is being a sexist jerk because of this remark. Keep in mind that GS is from Texas. This is progressive liberal level stuff. Relatively speaking.

There's still places in Texas where men say "yes, ma'am" and "no ma'am" and even hold a door for a lady, so I do agree b_dubb, I was just stating the facts.

again..not bad..still too much sounding like Lisa Garr..in terms of just a bit..laid back sounding...and the audio needs adjusting...and she needs to stop mentioning Art in terms of being in the chair and such...and maybe change the opening and closing songs

+1

I'm going to grab the shows that stand out later. While better than the clusterfuck with TIMEHICK, it all felt very flat and lacking in that midnight fringe charm.

Respect the need for privacy, but this isn't Facebook. She shouldn't be in the chair if she doesn't want the commitment. Just have a feeling if she gets popular she might learn the hard way visual anonymity might work against her.
