Art Teases News on Monday that will be "Shocking for Some." Any Guesses?

My wild guess is Art will partner with a medium to large online network which also has hundreds of terrestrial radio affiliates. This will increase the audience, ie "Next Level".
This also requires MITD to increase the commercial ads per hour & use the standard ad format, top of the hour news, yadda yadda.
Time Traveler subs are locked in through Keith's paypal setup, but new members will signup for podcast archives using the new network & they will handle the subs/payment system going forward. This accounts for the suggestions to sign up for a TT sub before the announcement.

Either this or Art will ad more commercial time on his own, due to a huge station in a big market signing up to carry mitd.

We will all find out what it is soon enough.

Is TNT signing him? They have the DRAMA!

He's not quitting. Stahp.

Exactly. He would not announce "taking the show to a whole new level" and add a facebook page, and continue to ask us to sign-up if he were quitting. Whatever it means to Time Travellers is that we will be getting new Art shows for our money.  I would suspect he might cut to 4 nights a week with 4 hour shows or some kind of format change.

That said, the teasing is kind of annoying - It reminds me of jobs I have been at where the bosses huddle around and rumors start and run wild and everyone is on eggshells trying to divine the direction things are going from morsels.

I don't think Art is adding more hours - his recent guests have been barely making it to the third hour to be saved by calls.

Art's all-time favorite guest, Jimmy Chunga, will be handling the music selection from now on.

Sounds reasonable.

These scenarios make perfect sense based on what we think we know.

This is a good theory and makes sense to me.

Taking things to the next level suggests that the show is expanding or growing. This certainly rules out the show being canceled. As well, I'd say it rules out cutting the show to 4 days per week. Shrinking the show, so to speak, does not seem to jive with taking things to the next level.

Again, taking things to the next level really can only mean some sort of growth.

But why would some of be shocked or hateful? If taking things to the next level, ie growth, means expansion onto a more traditional network, and thus more/longer breaks and/or commercials,  I can see where the shock and disappointment would come from: it would come from people thinking that Art has sold out and has done something that he vowed not to do.

Personally, would I be disappointed if the show had more commercials?  Yes, I would. But at the same time, the show has to grow in order to to stay viable, in order to stay on the air.  I'd rather have Art Bell with more commercials than no Art Bell at all.  So, if this is what is happening, I am more than ready to accept it.  Especially if it means expansion and greater success for the show.

In my humble opinion I'm thinking major terrestrial radio stations such as WABC, KCMO etc. come on board. Art goes to 4 nights a week bringing on George Knapp for the last 3 days of the week! Taking on 7 days of pure uninterrupted, superior digital radio.
What a ride that could be! Just a thought!  ;D

love Knapp but the man has a full time job lol he needs a break some time

When Dark Matter ended, it was way out of left field. He gave away an XM radio with a year's subscription as the prize to a contest on the same show that he quit. To me everything so far lines up with him pulling back his involvement to some extent. I really hope I am wrong, but if I'm right, I still won't go out and punch the burrito truck like last time.

Is this a euphemism for anal sex?

akwilly

He is going to run off to a deserted island with Falkie and broadcast their show using coconuts and long strings

Nothing is lining up with less involvement.

he's having a blast

How about this...Midnight is going to 7 days (taking it to a new level?) but Art will host only Monday through Thursday (some may hate him for that?) and the host(s) for the other three nights will be well known hosts like George Knapp (I am afraid it will be a shock for some--Dave?) or John B Wells? Gave it a shot, but I must say--don't really like playing this game.

THIS. This I would be OK with.

Maybe he'll be on The Big Bang Theory, for some that would be shocking and some wouldn't like it..

He ain´t quitting. I think he is loving this new streaming business model. It seems to work to a tee-- plus he is always complimenting it and as well as the ¨quality of callers.¨

I can bet you it will be 7 days a week and on weekends a guest host or perhaps inking a new network deal (with more commercials, sign up for time-traveler sub so you can bypass the annoying commercials).

He works from 9pm-12AM, that aint bad hours. He has enough time to spend with his daughter (assuming she is now in school) in the afternoons, before the show. She is probably in bed at 9PM anyhow... also enough time to spend with the wife (most of the day!). Really, stop the negativity. I think Art is loving this new gig and why would he open a brand new personal FB page? If he was quitting he wouldn´t have bothered. XM/Sirius was a joke from day 1 and he knew that-- he has freedom now and is loving it.

Very true Trostol. I believe Knapp's excellence in reporting and investigative talents are wasted on c2c. Knapp interviews on Sunday nights are superior as most of us believe. His passion is delivered over the airwaves and all is right! Then comes  Monday through Friday with snoory and his lack of interest and bumbling responses to guests. snoory takes what George Knapp reports on a Sunday and makes it all seem like a mirage. Hope I've managed to explain myself!  Not that I listened to c2c in years. I'd rather eat a 9 day old duck egg! And yes there are peeps that eat them!
Art along with George Knapp would be one heck of a team! Can't wait for Monday and Art's EPIC announcement!

^^^ this..."some" I think are PremRats...we can't overreact...Art can take a night off! He worked Memorial day! Hope I don't get dinged for writing something similar in another thread!  ;D
We can't  expect him to go 5 days without a break, or if he gets sick etc. Vacation  etc. He needs to pick a person and begin to train & vet him/her to be his back up and successor.  It would be a great idea to start bringing in replacements now to sort of do try outs. He is 70 and maybe 5, 10 yrs down the road he will want to make a hand off. Not retire just continue with his chosen one.
Dare I say it, because it raised the ire of many earlier,  but I think Redacted would be a good person to start with. The shot she had was very unfair. It was like being thrown into the fire. Some didn't like her but she has an amazing voice, a good disposition and I think she is very bright...as well her knowledge of the subject matter and her recall of Art's  past topics and shows is remarkable. I believe whatever the announcement she would be a fantastic choice. In the beginning some folks didn't like Art, still don't...I think she could grow on those who just from the one broadcast, if we can call it that, didn't care for her. It seemed to me to be more of a envious reaction. Guess we have to wait and see.

I was going to say that it wouldn't make sense for him to take Friday off, then come on Monday and announce he's quitting. Then I remember how things went down in 1998.  :(

I'm gonna try to be optimistic about this. Having to change the format some to make it more compatible with terrestrial radio makes sense. If Art was able to work out a compromise that would be more flexible for him I'd be all for it.

I know some users like the Dark Matter News, but I really haven't been that impressed. If that went away I wouldn't miss it.

It'll be interesting to see if RCH drops any hints tonight.
