ANNOUNCEMENT from ART BELL: It has been a great two Months start but now it's time to get serious. Starting Oct 1st Midnight in the Desert will send an XDS feed by Satellite to almost 4000 Radio Stations in Stereo, which means all they have to do is flip a switch and we are on.
Now that we are taking this step, we need your help. Please call your local station Manager or Program Director, tell them you would like Midnight In The Desert on their station and that we are now starting Oct 1st on XDS.
Share this with everyone! It's time to Take Back the Night.

Art was making this sound like bad news.  Well, I guess it is bad news for Premiere, Snorz and Co.

So that was the News? Great stuff. Spells doom for Coast if stations start picking it up.

If radio programmers took the advice of listeners, wouldn't Noory be gone by now?

Wintermute

iHeartMedia owns Premiere Networks who owns Coast to Coast AM and many other big-time shows... and contract rights to even more. iHeartMedia owns +850 AM and FM stations and has very good footprints in major markets (Chicago, NYC, LA).

Even though it would be to Premiere's benefit to change up their C2C program, they don't need to. they don't even need to compete really. With iHeartMedia, they are so vertically integrated that they will always have affiliates because they will simply force them to carry X-number of hours of each day. Plus, a lot of the content is packaged. So if you want to broadcast 10hrs of Limbaugh, you have to carry 15hrs of C2C.

The syndication relay is nice for the non-iHeartMedia stations. It becomes more or less plug-and-play in the automation software. But, it isn't like re-broadcasting MiTD was tough to do before-hand. Toughest part was dealing with Bell's affiliate process.

For normal folks... doesn't make a bit of difference.

I have the feeling there's more, that he decided to withhold.

There were a lot of instances where Art bemoaned the limited family time, his getting older, etc.

Surely this method of delivery could be done from the Philippines, with hours better to address those other issues.

One of my hit tunes. This one helped me get airplay on smooth jazz stations.

My pre-kindergarten teacher in winter of 79/80 used to torture us by playing this and "Ride Like the Wind" by Christopher Cross.

Thats the thing tho besides you i still don't think that many people would frankly care where art did his show from.

My son's high school history teacher used to play You dropped a bomb on me before drop tests. My son liked it. For three frikken years, the Gap Band... daily... sometimes hourly. How my son survived... must have been divine intervention.

A fellow faculty member should have fragged him in the teacher's break room. Or a kid should have accused him of putting cameras in the girls bathroom. Any means necessary to stop his Johnny One Note gag.

The final two weeks of eighth grade was our daffy music teacher playing Bette Midler's "Wing Beneath My Wings" because that was to be our graduation song. Terrible. I think we were supposed to sing it. Not that I would be there...I conveniently had a baseball game the same night as graduation. Real tough choice. I was summer school bound anyway.

I don't know anything about the business of radio so maybe I don't get why this is such good news.  I'll just join in the celebration anyway.  Hopefully Art will explain tonight.

A significant number of radio stations have XDS receivers, which is how they pull in syndicated programming. It's a matter of twisting a dial, pressing a button, and boom, Art's on the air. Takes 10 seconds if you're slow.

Ah, okay.  So this makes it super easy for stations to carry MITD.  Nice!  Now it's time for Art to steal Dave's affiliates one by one. ;D
