20150908 – Deborah Anderson - Witches - Live Chat Thread

I'd think the first order of business for someone claiming to be a witch would be to establish that they can violate the laws of physics and perform magic.  Short of that we need something entertaining, and I didn't get either of these things from this show.  I was never an Evelyn Paglini fan and Debbie is more listenable, so at least there is that.  She does seem very nice.  I work near the DC courthouse so I'd love to run into her sometime.

The caller who can't afford a window air conditioner was a sad but effective example of how mystical beliefs actively harm their believers.  If you want a window air conditioner, work for it or appeal to charity, not the supernatural.  It's telling that Debbie's solution was charity and not magic.

And I loved the Matthew (JC Jr.) call.  He busted her good with the horned God revelation.

Who was on after RCH last night?  Those fools totally botched what would have otherwise been a good interview with Christopher Dunn.

I fell out about an hour and a half in last night... I dunno, real life witches are always disappointing.  Paglini I could listen to just about as long as this witch.

I'm excited Art found a new witch.  I go to DC this week--probably won't see her unless I go by her office.  A new witch for Art is good.  Even if it is a lawyer.

What killed Evelyn Paglini?  I noticed after she died people came out of the woodwork to criticize her as a "rootworker" and "low magic witch".

. . .
I like this woman very much because she does have what to me is a good set of ethics.  She uses magic for protection of herself and not to attack others.  I would like Art to ask her, someday, if she's seen the repercussions of someone who had used it for attacking someone or personal greed.

I like, also, that she's verbal about being a female Mason.

Art can also get into, sometime, her experience with the people behind bars who were convicted but innocent - as well as those who have done the crime but never got convicted.

I think she has a lot to discuss in the future, and thanks to Heather and whomever recommended her.

Hail Satan, our dark lord and leader
He called us devil worshippers?  Well, the only thing that brings us together is an appreciation of Art.  Maybe he's finally revealing who He really is?  The Prince of the Night.

...or an open-minded not-too-judgmental reporter of the human state and all that surrounds it.

In this day where judgmental pieces of shit are willing to praise and support someone who refuses to follow the law of the government yet takes a paycheck on the public payroll, Art looks better and better in the eyes of those who are above such drivel.

I was never a Paglini fan. I did like this show and think that Debbie has potential. She did get better as the show played out. I would like to hear Art interview her again, but I hope he will welcome other witches and not be exclusive on the subject.

I'm going to give it another listen I almost always do when I miss a majority of the show... I just know that over time paglini wore really thin with me... to the point I regarded her almost the same as the numbers lady.  Just a different side of the coin

I think she was nervous to be on the radio.  Maybe next time she will be more comfortable.

Great show Art. Deborah has a good vibe and some interesting stories. I like the witch/lawyer/Masonic combo and the fact that she worships her cat was icing on the cake. Good times.

Nice guest, but like the Blanche Barton show I skipped through this one. I already know a lot about wicca/witchcraft (and church of pompous-atheists/satan), but the show on the 9th looks good.

JCjr/Matthew was awesome! He's a one trick pony, but why not?

All round very pleased with my time traveller subscription.  Good entertainment value!

She was awesome. And the combo of her skills is even better. I'm not sure why anyone would think being a lawyer in DC as a Mason practicing witchcraft is a conflict lol? I guess what I really heard her saying was she hates no God, no matter who that God is. I think if you are raised Christian you have a built in "fear" of listening to people like this... totally understandable as you may fear being tempted by the dark side...

Given that line of thinking - here's what I think (and fire at will if you feel the need) I was raised Christian, more specifically Catholic. Which means my parents gave me to the church before I could make any kind of choice. In my 20's I was "saved" by my own will. I was so full of energy to save the world in those days but living in what we call the "Bible Buckle of the Rust Belt" as I got older, I . came to realize some of the most pious people I knew were masking sins (bad ones like being pedophiles) and it really opened my eyes.

Moving around the country, I met more people. I listened to a lot of people tell me why they believed in some "dogma" (my father used to call it) everything from Wiccan oriented beliefs to Mormonism to Islam and Eastern oriented studies. The one thing they all have in common is some kind of need for power or protection.

They all advertise, they all write books, they all believe their (what I see as MLM) belief is "the most effective" and they all tell you this like some kind of giant Amway rah rah session.

I don't claim to know very much about anything (mostly because it's all boring when you get into the minutia) but my own experience for wanting to be saved was because someone had hurt me emotionally quite badly.

I was looking for a very quick fix to redemption and to be restored to my former self before I knew there were really bad people in the world.

My own experience is if you believe something is powerful, power will manifest itself in any of these beliefs. Within the core of all belief is rules you have to live by so running to another religion or belief system when the rule system you are in doesn't help you. If you hurt other people in vain, come hell or high water - you are going to answer for it. So long story short... don't be an asshole, don't judge people and help others when you can and you'll have a pretty good life :-)

Matthew the Sunday School Teacher just makes me sad.  He's a poor substitute for our dear JC.  I do sincerely hope JC calls Art again.

All of this. I'm hoping to hear a bit more Masonic talk the next time she's on.

maybe Debbie can whip up some spells and bring Paglini  back!

Heard bits and pieces on patrol last night. From what I heard Debbie was great. Smart and a great personality. You could actually hear Art's smile in his voice during the show! This is what the show should always be, an enlightened give and take with intelligent people.
Debbie was flexible with the various callers, even with the nut who claimed she worshiped Satan!
God knows we've had some dolts on the show who just come on to preach or push their books and philosophy.
I think Debbie and Linda Moulton Howe would have a great time together talking about spooky happenings around the country!
Thank You Art for having her on! ;D ;)

Holy Crap Brraaaapman! It's a do it yourself Hoagie mask just in time for Halloween!

Perhaps what bugged you was that it was a better show than you thought it would be. Some people are like that.

no i am pretty sure that not it

I'll be interested to hear Debbie Anderson again sometime.  She was getting more relaxed and much better towards the end of the show.

Thank you! Yes, I was definitely nervous. I'm as in awe of Art Bell as anybody.

Thank you! Yes, I was definitely nervous starting out. The idea that if you're horrible and bomb you will do so on a global scale is definitely intimidating.

Welcome to BellGab. Post Often.

You were great. I could tell you were nervous to begin with as any of us fans would be and are when we call in. However by the end you didn't sound nervous at all. Each time it will get easier. Welcome to the family. Vaguely lovable as we are.

Debbie you have already won a gold star coming onto BellGab to open a dialogue...I loved your show and I think you can become the regular go to "witch" for Art...which is an honor! if you listen to some of the feedback here, and don't let the trolls misdirect your path...you will go far!

God speed and good luck!

Same here, the whole "good deeds + karma = Witch (oh, but hey I could kill someone)" thing got redundant.
