ANYONE who can not see that this global warming agenda is a scam aimed at bringing this country down is an imbecile. And I am posting to the entire thread. If what I post doesn't apply to you, simply move on.

Thank you for enlightening us ... and the world.
Show your credentials .... simple enough to do.

You mean, much smarter than you. Oh. And WHY did I say climate change has always happened yet call Bell nuts for believing we should change the way Americans live in order to change it? Because it won't change anything and it's absurd to try to change the earth's climate! You ADAPT. Look the word up.

This kind of thing is very unseemly and belongs in the playground. All you do is show yourself up as someone who lacks confidence in his case and resorts to smears to make himself feel better. That's tabloid science, but perfectly consonant with your entire approach in this thread. Feel free to make your case, but repeatedly declaring yourself smarter than everyone else merely proves the opposite - it's only paranoid mediocrities who need to bolster themselves in this way. If you really can't engage sensibly with a lucid and reasonable post by a smart guy like Georgie then perhaps you are better off on your own (I imagine your existence is basically solitary) than coming on here and providing us all with a case study of mental illness.

Talk to someone, get some help.

I've never let indifference/disgust stop me in the past. This sort of 'playing hard to get' stuff is what Rohypnol was invented for. Let's go for a drink!  ;)

The evidence of "climate change" is all around us. Micro-scale climatology of regions change all the time. The Earth's meso-scale atmospheric conditions do go up and down in temperature, thus there is "global warming" as well as "global cooling".

Now, the real question, the crux, "What role is man's agency on Earth is climate change?" and "what % of climatic variables can be directly attributed to man's agency on the Earth?"... those are the real issues people argue about. As well they should be. Good science and good policy comes from robust debate and skeptical, factual analysis.

What is sad about this ongoing public debate:

1. It's highly politicized. Republicans use it as a weapon against Democrats. Democrats use it as a weapon against Republicans. Different areas of scientific inquiry use it as a mechanism to get more NSF funding $$$ with no real results. All the while the real research being done is hijacked by large businesses and the media.

2. No one wants to admit that the climatology of Earth is too complex to accurately model. That we do not know the complete answer. That the answer is likely going to be a mix of things including human agency. That the detailed answer is simply not available at this time and that even the best, non-skewed estimates will be off.

Art Bell has an obvious political lean. His opinions are his opinions and that is fine. I don't agree is a lot of it, but some is darn entertaining. And that is the point, entertainment. Not education. If you are going to ArtBell.com to be educated, you have lost your way.

In closing I would like to point out the hypocrisy of MiTD and the complete denial of global warming. Isn't C2C / DM / MiTD all about having an open mind about things that we don't know or are considered fringe ideas? But yet global warming is just crazy talk right?   OK.

Well you just pulled the NASA card. There is no bias in NASA. After all, they are a big governmental agency without a space program.

While you talk about global warming your missing the real picture.

We are living like slobs on this planet.

We are killing the oceans with trash.
We are destroying the ground water with fracking and heaping trash dumps getting larger in size and number each day.
We are loosing the atmosphere of the planet. The clouds are actually getting lower.

The really weird part is it's getting worse every day and night, but no one cares.

It's like we are all hypnotized and we can't see what is really happening to the only home our children and their children will ever have.

Global Warming is just miss-direction!

It keeps your attention on, "is it getting warmer or colder, is the sun to blame or are we"? Lets have endless debates about that stupid crap.

Open your eyes and lets clean up the heaping, stinking, trash pile we call Earth.

henge0stone

Even if climate change isn't as big a deal as people are making it to be will it really hurt to not pollute the environment as much? Will finding alternative energy sources destroy the world?

DrCarl

Yeah, but judging by your post I'd guess my parrot would find it easier to beta  doctorate than you would.

Now I know you're no doctor; Even Senda would have a wittier riposte than that. You don't own a parrot either. And what is a beta doctorate? And you're not a doctor.

I believe they use it as a miss-direction too.  The greedy corporations don't want people focused on what were doing to this planet.  We must not look at the tar sands in Canada to see how bad were destroying this planet, all in the name of greed.

Well since you don't trust NASA, I'm going to use your logic and say I don't trust this article, it seems extremely political in nature and therefore can not be trusted to be unbiased.

To be fair, I have checked every response on here, and Doctor Carl is the only actual Doctor, so I believe he knows what he's talking about.

I see, that's because she calls herself Doctor and that's all you need to be convinced? 'mkay...

Anyway, changing the subject, have you got together the money for this bridge you were going to buy from me yet?

Correct, but more than just being a PhD, I actually did heavy duty research into rapid and dramatic climate change in the very distant past and man's reaction to it for my doctoral dissertation. These believers in man caused climate change are reactionary ignoramuses.

I say it is a scam and if I am bought and paid for they are sending the checks to the wrong fricking address.

DrCarl

The idea is to THINK FOR YOURSELF. Read the opposing arguments and come to a conclusion but read. Read paleoclimatological literature. Read the science. Use your heads. It's a scam!

albrecht

I think it is a scam about the human cause and CO2 and besides a way for governments and international organizations gain more control and bankers to make money from financial bubbles and futures markets the people who claim it don't act like they do so. If Al Gore, Jr, Hollywood, and the other leaders really believed it why don't they ever try to limit their "carbon footprint?" The logic of flying private jets to be met with an entourage of limousines in exclusive or exotic destinations to drink fine wine and eat fine (usually imported) food and discuss the "warming" is just amazingly hypocritical. Have a conference over the net or speaker phone. Buy local food and wine. Live in apartments and that Agenda-21 style housing and not vast, gated estates.

ps: I think the "warming" is a way for big banks, companies, and countries to take attention away from real environmental issues that we could do something about such as toxic waste, nuclear waste, over fishing, poaching, heavy metal contamination, animal "super bug" flus, droughts, etc.

If that was really your idea I would never have replied to this thread.  But your idea instead was to call everyone an idiot who didn't agree with your cherry picked, badly framed data.  It may be true that smart people like yourself will adapt, but in response to your previous comment here is a quote from another smart person.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Dr you are the one that is crazy. Don't you know we need to create some more financial bubbles for bankers to feed on via carbon credit and future trading schemes? And more taxes, ideally globally, because taxes always solve problems? And how in the world are all those starving graduate students and climatologists going to eat without government cheese to prove the warming? And those bureaucrats in places like the UN, WTO, etc? Come on, they need more power and something to do. The global warming climate change climate disruption will keep them busy and, really, all those caterers, resorts, lodges, and private jets need to be used and what better way that for politicians to fly out and discuss the warming and "carbon footprints" of those pesky little people, farmers, and productive businesses over some nice wine and dinners?

This is insincere. People like this love to pretend that they are being even-handed and showing you the evidence, but when they tell you to "read the literature" they are actually telling you to only read the stuff that they personally believe. Anything else is a waste of time for them. Also, for a self-professed intelligent man, he comes off as one dumb sonofabitch.

A little learning is a dangerous thing ;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring :
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.

Also he doesn't know what 'reactionary' means. He is misapplying that description because he is actually describing himself. Reactionaries don't want to do anything; they just sit there and watch the house burn down. All he is doing is displaying his own character flaws for us all to see, it has little to do with any sort of scientific debate.

i want to say this about "scientific consensus". until 1887 all prominent physicists endorsed the Aether theory, and even after the Michelsonâ€"Morley experiment continued to cling to it until about 1905 when a rogue scientist proposed something else (which has been proven  since). look all that up yourself, as opposed to me feeding you links.

a consensus doesn't mean its the truth, rather its an explanation for observed data postulated to work until proven otherwise.

additionally this is an internet forum, where anyone can make sh*t up, so theres that .

You're right a consensus isn't fact. But that is as far as it goes. Because 19th century science got somethings wrong does not mean all science is wrong. Will we know more in another 100 years? Yes, of course. Will some of what we consider to be correct be proven to be insufficient? Yes, of course. None of that means what we know now should be completely discounted. Nor dies it mean that a preponderance of evidence should be disregarded.

Fair enough, but I don't think the good doctor's point has much to do with science. I think (rather like a lot of conspiracists) their belief rests on the fact that it 'can't' be true, and then trying to build a case on that. I really doubt you could have a rational debate with a man like that, because he is only interested in evidence of a very selective kind, and will dismiss anything else as part of some hidden agenda. All his postings here have been the rantings of a thin-skinned, not particularly intelligent, paranoiac. His ideas have more in common with revealed religion than something evidence-based.
